Borean Tundra
- Open Water Skill: 475 to fish open water without junk. Pools can be fished effectively with skill 1.
- Notes: The Borean Tundra is mostly flat and tree-less. Hot geysers feed many shallow inland pools. The Horde fortress of Warsong Hold is the largest base in Northrend. Coldarra is the rocky island on the west side of the zone, containing the Nexus. The largest Tuskarr (Kalu'ak) town, Unu'pe, is found on the southern coast. A "turtle boat" can be used to travel between here, Moa'ki Harbor (Dragonblight), and Kamagua (Howling Fjord). The Tuskarr are a fishing-orientated faction, also found in the Howling Fjord and Dragonblight. The murlocs of Borean Tundra also enjoy fishing. They even fish a pole - how very civilised! Almost the entire coastline of the Borean Tundra is a beach or broken ice, and very accessible.
- Commentary: The Borean Tundra contains a few unusual pool spawning locations: Musselback Sculpin School can sometimes be found inside the Gammoth and Magmoth caves. Anglers can fly into these caves, and drop down into the water below. You will need to ride back out of the cave once you have caught your fish.
- Quests: Blood is Thicker requires 5 Bloodtooth Frenzy to be caught from a Pool of Blood. 1 of 5 possible Northrend Daily Fishing Quests.
- History:
- 3.1: Pool of Blood appear.
- Wrath of the Lich King: Northrend opened.

Borean Tundra fishing
theonlymoose, December 2008:
I've found a nice rock to fish off of when fishing just outside of Valiance Keep (great for alliance, risky for horde). You can catch both inland water & coastal fish from the same spot.
Here are my results from my most recent fishing session (raised skill from 404 to 416):
Rockfin Grouper - 37
Bonescale Snapper - 33
Musselback Sculpin - 14
Borean Man O' War - 13
Dragonfin Angelfish - 13
Imperial Manta Ray - 10
Darkwater Clam - 8 (got 1 Crystallized Water & 1 Northsea Pearl upon opening)Also gathered 6 Pygmy Suckerfish in the process
Kelemeth, May 2009:
Screeny of said rock.
Very handy for Alliance with it being next to the Keep and so, little chance of horde.
Mkreegs, July 2009:
An update on this post. From my experience the zone name above your minimap must say Valiance Keep. If it says Borean tundra all I have caught is of the inland variety. While fishing in the Valiance Keep zone I was catching both inland and costal fish.
Lyps, August 2009:
The fish you pull up actually depends on where your bobber lands, not where you are standing. That would explain how you could catch fish from two different zones from the same spot.
Just out of curiosity, what is the advantage of fishing from this spot? Wouldn't you be able to make more money fishing up Musselback Sculpin schools in Lake Kum'uya while in the Borean Tundra? Or are you looking for these specific fish?
