Catching Empty Clam
- Notes: One of the Common "junk" items that may be caught from open water, if your fishing skill is low. Where this junk item is caught, about 20% of all junk catches will be this item. There are 8 common junk items (Driftwood, Empty Clam, Sickly Fish, Tangled Fishing Line, Tattered Cloth, Torn Sail, Weeds and Withered Kelp) and 5 uncommon junk items (Empty Rum Bottle, Old Boot, Rock, Tree Branch and Water Snail). This junk is unique to open water in Hrothgar's Landing.

"Junk" Fish
Marlburo, August 2011:
I think I read the "junk" fish section right...but just want to confirm as I'm having trouble catching empty clam and withering kelp (supposed to be common junk). Is it the same probability to catch junk in any zone? Obviously the lower your fishing level versus the higher level needed to fish without junk would be ideal. Just didn't know if every zone has the opportunity to catch all junk items. Thanks in advance.
el, August 2011:
In patch 3.1, every zone had the same set of junk catches. Later, zones started being added with different junk catches. My suggestion for anything you are struggling to catch is Hrothgar's Landing, north of Icecrown, which was the first zone to contain non-standard junk catches. However, with all the changes in Cataclysm, the junk you seek may appear elsewhere: This is hard to check, and not terribly important to most anglers...

you're the best el, thanks for confirming some of my suspicions and giving advice to where to go from here!
