Isle of Quel'Danas
Notes: Also known as Sunwell Isle. The isle is intended for those who have reached level 70.
Commentary: I really don't understand why this Isle is called "Sunwell": It rains continually! To fly to the island you will need to have reached level 70, at which point flight points can be found in Silvermoon City (Horde) and Ironforge (Alliance). Most anglers will also find a portal in Shattrath City.
Skill: 450 to fish without junk.
History:
- 2.4: Isle of Quel'Danas opened.
- 2.4.2: Catch rates change: More Giant Sunfish, while Lightning Eel, Mote of Water, Seaweed and Luminous Bluetail disappear from open water.

- 2.4 Changes - Patch 2.4's changes to fishing, including daily quests and Isle of Quel'Danas.
Below are anglers' comments about Isle of Quel'Danas.
2.4.2 Changes
el, April 2008:
I thought Isle of Quel'Danas' fishing was worthless already, but the latest 2.4.2 Public Test Realm has nerfed the catches even further. Based on a sample of 347:
- 77% Giant Sunfish
- 15% Jaggal Clams
- 7% Bloated Giant Sunfish
Bloated Giant Sunfish now contain 1-4 Lightning Eel, 1-2 Luminous Bluetail, 3-5 Seaweed, "Mostly Digested Fish" (grey fish-bones), plus odd herb, ore and scroll as before (but less commonly, because of the new drops).
This means Luminous Bluetail are no longer caught directly by fishing - they can only be found within Bloated Giant Sunfish. However, Luminous Bluetail now share cooldown with 'lock healthstones (and I guess everything else on that timer) and not mana/healing potions.
I wonder if there is anything else lurking in the patch?
Calabar, April 2008:
There seem to be some odd changes in this patch, many of which could be considered nerfs. It makes me wonder what the powers that be at Blizzard are intending by it. Maybe if they nerf things bad enough they can “fix” them in the expansion and make it all the more popular. *shrugs* I don’t know what’s up. Unlike most patch notes these have left me scratching my head. So I can’t say I’m all that surprised fishing is getting whacked by the nerf bat as well.
Petre, April 2008:
If you remember back to the pre-BC mini patches they did mess with things. I think Blizzard uses this time between expansions to experiment with mechanics that they might be implementing in the next expansion. Most of the really odd mechanics will probably not make it into the live patch, but instead into the expansion. I would be surprised if some of the changes make it in.
Oberweiss, April 2008:
Thank you for the update.
I wonder if this means they'll come out with a recipe to cook the Luminous Bluetail into something more useful. I'll probably do some stocking up now, since they seem to be easier to catch pre-2.4.2.
Lilyana, April 2008:
I may be wrong... but I have been fishing outside ZA all day (where I previously have been able to fish up Lightning Eels, Crescent-Tail Skullfish, Barbed Gill Trout, and Bloodfin Catfish) but have only managed to lure in Raw Bristlewhisker Catfish and Raw Longjaw Mudsnappers. Perhaps they changed the catches avaliable in this area? It's either that or I am having really bad luck =P Hope someone else has time to confirm this.
el, April 2008:
I think this changed some time ago. I remember last time I fished outside Zul'Aman, I saw what you saw recently. It didn't make much sense to be able to catch "level 70" fish in a 11-20 zone, so it is logical it changed. Although Deadwind Pass is pretty easy to fish at lowish level too, assuming you have the required skill.
Just a note for the faq
moongleam, April 2008:
Sunwell island is fishable by characters lower than level 70 if they are summoned there by a warlock. There are a number of agressive enemys running around tho, so I suggest staying on the boat if you do go over at an earlier level.
You may want to adjust the 2.4 faq with this note if you get a chance.

Petre, April 2008:
Aren't all areas fishable by under 70 characters as long as they have the required skill? I think that El has the minimum skill to fish there at 355.
el, April 2008:
Yes. The issue was getting a character under level 70 to the isle. Blizzard went to a lot of effort to stop lower level characters flying/swimming in. I've updated the text, thanks.
Personally my experiences are from PvP realms... where standing on the boat fishing reduces life expectancy to seconds. Thus far the only "quiet" spot I have found is at the bottom of the cliffs, east on Magister's Terrace.
Petre, April 2008:
Aye, and even that will become difficult once the Phase 2 and especially 3 quests open up where you have to kill the naga near that area.

I'm on a PVP server, too. I did some fishing on the new island yesterday, and I recommend fishing next to the flight path. On my server at least, people are less likely to try to gank you if they'll immediately take a durability death from level 70 elite NPCs.
Isle of Quel'Danas
mattaio, April 2008:
I spent 20 minutes this morning (8 am server time) fishing off the main dock at Isle of Quel'Danas. Could not find any pools, so I thought this was good a spot as any.
Totaled skill at 500.
18 - Giant Sunfish
13 - Jaggal Clam = 13 clam meat
8 - Seaweed
8 - Luminous Bluetail
8 - Lightening Eel
6 - Mote of Water
3 - Bloated giant sunfish = 4 darkclaw lobster, 3 teroconeAll in all not bad. I'm going to try the same spot later in the afternoon time frame to see if I have a higher eel count.
Quel'Danas fishing nerfed?
Qweere, May 2008:
Hi
This is my first post on these forums!
I have 4 lvl 70s, each with their fishing maxed out and all do the daily fishing quest most days.
Now to the point of my post!!
I was aware that in patch 2.4.2, Luminous Bluetail fish were no longer going to be able to be fished directly, but instead would only be found inside some of the Bloated Sunfish. However, my experience suggests there have been other Quel'Danas fishing changes too.
Last night, I caught 46 Sunfish in 20 mins, compared with 15 Jaggal Clams and only 7 Bloated Sunfish. This feels a higher proportion of ordinary Sunfish than usual.
The real nerf though, was the contents of the Bloated Sunfish. Before the patch, I was getting stuff like Khorium Ore and Nightmare Vine. Last night I got one lot of Stranglekelp, a single Luminous Bluetail and the rest were vendor trash seaweed and fish bones.
Has anyone else found this too, or was I just unlucky?

There was some discussion here. From what I can see, those changes are live. The only one I'd not been able to confirm was that Luminous Bluetail were still in the game... but you have, so thank you.
