Biggest concentration of pools for turtle mount?
fredje222, April 2009:
So the new turtle mount will be fishable from any pool in northrend, completly random...
Like evry good fisher i'm gonna fish like hell till i get it :p but i was wondering where the biggest concentration of pools is for fishing it...So what do you think?
el, April 2009:
I suspect the biggest (closest) concentration is in the Frozen Sea, just south of Borean Tundra. Sholazar Basin also has a lot of pools, fairly close together. Both are higher skill areas, which will tend to reduce the number of people fishing.
Of course there are locations such as Lake Kum'uya (near Warsong Hold in Borean Tundra) where pools generally respawn fast enough to allow one angler to go round and round the same lake. So you might not need a huge concentration. Likewise, it is reasonably effective to fly round the coast of Northrend, or along the rivers of Grizzly Hills.
There are other things to consider, such as who else is fishing, the value of the normal fish you are (mostly) catching, and whether you can (mentally) survive fishing the same handful of pools for days. Personally (over 6,000 pool catches so far - and no turtle), I have to keep on moving to new areas, just to break up the boredom...
fredje222, April 2009:
tbh, i'm kinda glad you have 6000 catches and still no turtle
how harder to catch, how cooler it will be to have :pthanks for the good idea's, seems their are enough good spots and moving around will be needed idd if i dont wanna go crazy :p
InfectedZombie, April 2009:
i have the turtle mount from the tcg, he probably wont see the light of day once i fish this up!
Lou Buitton, April 2009:
"Barely outpaces Hook of the Master Angler"
Umm, not sure about that. The hook is 25% swim speed bonus correct? And the mount is 60%. Not to mention that you have to wait 30 seconds after equipping the trinket to use it so the mount is WAY better imo.
The thing i'm curious about is what happens when you leave the water? can the turtle go on land or do you auto dismount??
If it can't get out of the water, the mount will simply suck...just like the trinket sucks when you hit air bubbles (it knocks you out of form whenever you hit an air bubble).
hopefully it'll give you 60% riding speed in AND out of water (so it'll behave like a lvl 30 mount out of water).
Dethwolf, April 2009:
hmm yes offshore is probably best place to fish..until everyone reads our posts lol
fredje222, April 2009:
meh, most of you are us servers anyway :p
Sauce, April 2009:
So, brace yourself for the hate..... I just fished up the turtle mount. I went into sholazar to do the fishing daily (ghostfish), saw a nettlefish pool, 5 casts later.... TURTLE.
One, this mount is not nearly as big as I thought it was. Two, I'm a little disappointed because I thought it was going to be a challenge. That said, I'm moving slowly through Dalaran on a cool new mount!
Boothby, April 2009:
I fished mine up about an hour ago in the little lake by Westwind Refugee Camp. That area has a pretty good concentration of pools and rarely anyone there.
Nonzor, April 2009:
Woot! I just fished up the turtle mount in Borean Tundra from an Imperial Manta Ray school. (I spent over an hour fishing in The Frozen Sea and had a bag of cuttlefish and monsterbelly, so was just fooling around looking for other pools.) Of course I mounted immediately - and was pleased to see that while riding underwater I didn't get a breath bar ... I wonder if that will change?
Happy casting!
Sauce, April 2009:
So..... is the drop on the turtle mount abnormally high for some reason? If all of us got one this quickly, and it took El 6000 casts to get nothing, maybe something is wrong in the coding.
Batter, April 2009:
Fished up my turtle mount about a half hour ago in Borean fishing for Musselback Sculpin at around the 350 catch mark. I was shocked (and pretty pumped) that it dropped so soon!
Good luck everyone!
el, April 2009:
Congratulations and thanks for the reports. Keep in mind that random loot is random. So many people are trying to catch the Sea Turtle, it is inevitable a few people will be lucky.
shuuya, April 2009:
I got my sexy turtle from Glassfin Minnow pools in Crystalsong Forest. I love this thing. :D

It's a random drop with a low drop %, some will get it after a few catches, others after thousands, and others will never get it. And dont forget that this is a site about wow fishing so u will see other ppl posting that they got the turtle.
Meraxes, April 2009:
Glacial Salmon pools in Grizzly were going to be my place. The salmon sells well and is used for fish feasts. Might as well do something productive while trying for the turtle.
Suran, April 2009:
Got my turtle after 127 Salmons in Grizzly Hills.
Dethwolf, April 2009:
Hmmm none of the turtles so far from what I see here and on the wow forums were from the frozen sea so far.........I figured the pools where u can see the giant turtle boat is the LOGICAL place to catch turtle mount
Sigh 450 casts last night...I'll try to fishfor an hour or so tonight out there again

fishing next to warsong hold, going fine, lots of pools

Looks interesting, Mightfish. Unfortunately, the download gives a 403 Forbidden error at the moment.
Mightfish, January 2010:
I have fix this error.
Balazar, January 2010:
I note the link takes to you a web page, and the download link on the web page is to a .rar file. Perhaps I'm a tad bit paranoid, but I would prefer a straight up image file.
Mightfish, January 2010:
Updated to version 1.1 !
- Added some Musselback Sculpin School
- You can click or mouseover on pools icon, to get information for the fishing pools.
Christhina, February 2010:
This is actually very handy, and a good record to show new anglers (and handy for us older, more forgetful types like me) :)
Mightfish - I wonder only one thing - the links above appear to take me to the same map that is the entire continent of Northrend, and this map is populated with fishing pools where they spawn in each zone.
Am I missing a reason for the separate links? The map always seems to open "focussed" on Borean Tundra (though I can scroll easily enough to the other zones, of course) - I'm just hoping I'm not missing something, hence I thought I'd ask :)
Either way, this is well done, and thank you for sharing your hard work with us all :)

Thank you for your support !
This function seems simple, but the design is very difficulties.
Sorry, i do not have the ability to solve this problem.Al, February 2010:
Thanks for this contribution to fishing knowledge, Mightfish.

Job well done, maps looks nice and not overfilled with useless information.
big thumbs up for the work, love the links to Els site..Cuz I gotta admit..other fishing sites dont reach El´s site to the socks and are not worthy...Not so serious note..

Christhina, January 2011:
JTB, I am now getting the same.
Sadly, it seems the map (which was very well done), along with our friend Mightfish, seems to have disappeared :(

Fishing up the Sea Turtle in Northrend- Post Cata.
cecilfirefox, January 2011:
Hey folks,
I've fished up the turtle mount twice on two different characters. Both we're in Northrend, in WOTLK days. My first was a Druid who maxed her fishing and eventually got it. The second was my DK who went from 1 to about 200 something and got it.
Now, I'm on my Goblin hunter, been fishing in Northrend for a week- stopped leveling, fishing nonstop, I want this mount before Vashj'ir. What I'm trying to ascertain now is whether or not you can still catch the mount in Northrend? Are we sure it's not JUST Cata pools, can we confirm it is still Northrend and Cata content?
And for what it's worth, I did manage to fish up the Dustbringer. :/
Selador, January 2011:
I don't know answer for your question, though i can tell you that u will get seahorse mount in of first quests in Vashj'ir that is even faster than Seaturtle, it can be used only there though.
cecilfirefox, January 2011:
I'm going to go for about an hour or so more- then just level and do it in cata pools. :/
cecilfirefox, January 2011:
Can anyone confirm getting it in Northrend pools post Cata? :/ This is taking so long.
Silvestas, July 2011:
I fished up the sea turtle mount today 05/07/2011 post Cata in a Fangtooth Herring School in Howling Fjord. It took around 250 casts while i was farming for the Dark Herring.
Morbanth, July 2011:
http://www.wowhead.com/item=46109
She can now be fished in Cataclysm fish pools. Much better money that way! :)
Mystrose, July 2011:
I started yesterday in Deepholm fishing the albino cave fish pools, moved to Hyjal for about 1/2 hour and ended up in Uldum. I fished for about 2hrs yesterday total. This morning, I continued in Uldum and hit every blackbelly mudfish pool I could find. I had about 90 casts and got the turtle. Wasn't hard at all... I guess I was just lucky. I have seen some with over 5k casts and never got the turtle. Just wish she was a fast mount, but oh she is way cute.
christos, August 2011:
Took me a little over 2 weeks and around 3,000 reels, all in Frozen Seas.. Not 100% sure on that number of reels though.. could be more, could be less!
And for what's its worth, this mount is awsome and a real treat.. especially when doing certain dailies and quests that require looting underwater.. hate to say it but I love breezing by someone on my turtle and looting that crab or barrel of rum or whatever item it may be before them..
renork, August 2011:
OMG OMG OMG you can ride the turtle and loot the crabs underwater on it?!?!? Wow I totally need to keybind the turtle now. I wonder if the reins of poseidus works like that also?
el, August 2011:
Renork - From memory, this changed in patch 4.1. Fairly sure it changed for all mounts.
Chimbo, August 2011:
My 1st post to celebrate catching this sweet mount.
Caught in Frozen Sea SE of Kalu'ak village of Unu'pe. My toon is only lvl 42 so I died quite a bit before I found this safe place to fish in Northrend with many pools spawning in a close area around two icebergs complete with penguin colonies. Elixir of water walking was essential for me.
I caught her in a Moonglow Cuttlefish pool with a bone fishing pole I won in an Org daily. Was already 525 fishing lvl. Took me about 2 weeks in real life over maybe a dozen sessions. Didn't have an add-on to keep track but I guess maybe 2000 or more casts?
Super excited. The advice I got from El's played a huge part. Thanks.
Fishing Bots Fail!
Hells Angler, November 2010:
So out fishing The Frozen Sea last night with the officer of my fishing guild (trying to get him his sea turtle mount, Ive got mine) and low and behold, someone is fishing in our "super secret never ending" pool hotspot. We were cautious approaching as he was an Allie flagged for PvP. When we got closer we approached him as fisherman not enemies. (waved, bowed and degeared to poles only) We were astonished when we got no reply or response. We camped directly next to him and fished for atleast 2 hours. The Allie never budged! Was constantly casting/looting, nonstop! We left for a few hours and came back to restock bags only to find the Allie still there casting (twice as fast as us, btw) We instantly realized he must be a fishing botter and killed him on sight. He did not defend himself at all, just kept fishing. To end my story Id like to say this: Fishing Botters Beware! You drop AH prices and disgrace all real fisherman! I will be checking this spot frequently and am killing ALL botters on sight! Anyone else notice fish botters in Northrend? Gimme name and they will be hunted (atleast on Draka Realm) Shame on Fish Botters of Both Factions!
Hells Angler, November 2010:
Anyone on Draka that would like more info on my fishing guild, pst or mail OlyDub or Lolife
Stalyn, November 2010:
Never knew there was such a thing as a Fish Botter... :3
Interesting find, and great job defending your Fisher's Cove :P
Christhina, November 2010:
Good on you for getting rid of the bot :)
You piqued my curiosity at "super secret never ending" pool hotspot, though, I have to say!
Enarka, November 2010:
I think he refers to the Deepsea Monsterbelly/Cuttlefish area near the glaciers.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Bubunya, November 2010:
Fish Bot still working?:O)
Never use it tho but last time I saw it was pre-BC :O)Snafu, November 2010:
Don't just kill botters...report them to a GM. It's a bannable offence; open that ticket!
In Northrend, what is "Open Water - Named Coastal"?
andreii_1989, April 2011:
I've noticed that on the pages that summarize the fish that can be caught in the northrend zones listed on the site, like borean tundra, howling fjord, grizzly hills, they have their "open water" sections separated into:
Open Water - Inland and Unnamed Coastal
Open Water - Named Coastal
Apparently, you get different catches when you fish in each, regardless of the zone, but what's the difference between them geographically? What is a "named" or an "unnamed" coastal area?el, April 2011:
Named coastal is an area of the coast where the name is more specific than the name of the zone. For example, "Unu'pe". In Northrend, coastal water which just has the zone name, for example "Borean Tundra", contains inland fish. Note that the critical location is the place the bobber lands, not where the angler is standing.
andreii_1989, April 2011:
Thank you for your explanation el, I understand now.
sparkly pools on the coast?
pomegranite, June 2009:
I haven't been able to find this--which may be my own doofusiliouness--but I can't find any reference to the sparkly pools on the coast of Northrend. I'm on Grizzly Hills in particular. The pools looks bubbly & sparkly, and are a few yards off the coast. Are they merely cosmetic or do they contribute anything to fishing itself?
Thanks a lot to anyone who doesn't think my question is too dumb to answer... I've been playing for a few years very casually (read: infrequently) and am not always up on everything.

Kalu'ak Fishing Derby: Some Strategy is Possible?
Sabrieal, February 2010:
Been lurking here for a while but i thought i'd share my thoughts on the Kalu'ak Derby.
Okay so after having no luck with the Fishing Lottery- I mean Derby so far (I haven't caught a single shark and fished the full hour in every contest so far^^) I've been looking at a few ways one COULD increase their chances of winning.A few factors that can affect chances of winning:
How close are the pools you're fishing?
How many other people are fishing those pools? These are the first two which spring to mind. But how about these:
How far apart are everyone else's fishing pools?
How MANY FISH are in their pools? ; )These last two are of interest to us because we CAN control them.
How? Well although it involves spending a good few hours beforehand for relatively small gain, some form of "preparation" is possible. I've noted that people tend to stop fishing pools as much a couple of hours before the contest starts. Starting last week i have begun "forcing" pools into a close group. In Grizzly Hills I succeeded (after a good half hour) Of emptying most of the southern Imperial Manta Ray pools and filling most of the eastern ray schools. However, this week i'm going to try something else: fishing as many pools as i can to reduce the number of fish in each pool (apart from mine on the east coast : P) Effectively all one does is fish 2-3 catches out of each pool so that only 1 or 2 fish remain in each pool. The theory being that competitors will take longer travelling between useless pools while I catch the shark and win : D Obviously it's gonna take some time to go around every pool in Northrend, and sure some lucky randomer with a fishing skill of 23 may still get it on his first catch, but it has to help SOMEHOW!
I'm not sure if some will view this as cheating, but I for one think this is perfectly acceptable : )
What do you guys think? Too much effort for too little gain?
Also still wearing max fishing gear out of paranoia incase the skill does have some affect on your chances. :P any proof of that yet?
Anyways thanks for reading, sorry if post is a bit lengthly. Will let you know if i end up with some nice boots or a broken computer and a sore fist!
