Below are readers' comments about "Sholazar Basin":

Horde in river's heart.

  1. Reapernut, July 2009:

Don't you just hate it when they gank you their? when your doing the ghostfish quest? i've been ganked about 50 times trying to do the thing, i eventually have to wait an hour or so to go back so i don't get hit...it becomes a big problem, i've seen small gank wars start out between alliance and horde when that happens..

  2. Leny, July 2009:

You don't have to get the ghost fish there btw

  3. GormanGhaste, August 2009:

Just to make Leny's comment clearer, you can fish up the ghostfish anywhere in sholazar basin, even though the quest text says river's heart. A nice quiet spot is near Freya's Avatar.

  4. Silverdrgnfly, August 2009:

Funny, on my server its the Alliance who gank the Horde while fishing. Yes, you can fish it anywhere in the Basin, so find a nice quiet spot away from River's Heart and you should be fine.

Jeweled Fishing Pole, CAUGHT?

  1. wyrmsmom, June 2009:

I had always understood this to be a reward (presumably in the bag of fishing treasures) for doing one of the Dalaran fishing quests.

However, last week, my hubby reported to me an unusual method of acquisition. He had called up one of his characters (a 74 night elf hunter) and went to do the Ghost Fish quest. About to cast, he discovered that - no doubt in some pack clearing frenzy - he had sold her moderately good pole. He took the character back to Marcia and picked up whatever she had there in the line of poles and returned to Sholazar to fish. On his second cast, he CAUGHT a jeweled fishing pole! ... along with a fish. He doesn't remember whether it was a nettlefish or a goby because he was so surprised by the pole.

I've seen the pole - sweet - but didn't see his character catch this lovely pole. Then, again, I have no reason to think he fabricated its provenance.

Any one else CATCH a Jeweled or Bone fishing pole?

  2. Hamacus, June 2009:

    Howdy,
Got my jeweled fishing pole on Thursday and won the STV Tourny on Sunday to complete Accomplished angler. That also got me my Salty title. A great good luck charm. : )

  3. justBrando, June 2009:

If he DID catch it, if somehow after buying a new pole it triggered some exploit or something, I MUST know. I really want this pole. And that would be a major exploit.

If anyone else has any information on something like this, please let us know.

Sholazar Coast Fishing Information

  1. Axolara, December 2008:

I noticed you don't have any information on the Sholazar Coast, and thought I'd contribute some. I fished from 7:40 to 8:14 PM on 12/27/08 in open water at coords 16, 67 on the coast. With 558 skill, I'm pretty sure I didn't lose any. I got a lot of getaways with no lure (483 skill.) As for the catch, with 100 casts:

    66 Barrelhead Goby
    30 Nettlefish
6 Pygmy Suckerfish (yes, on the coast)
    2 Reinforced Crate
    2 Crystalized Water

This might be the same as inland fishing, I'm not sure. I would have emailed this straight to El, but I couldn't find contact information. I love the site, please keep it up :D

  2. el, December 2008:

The Sholazar Basin coast contains the same fish as inland water - except for parts called the "North Sea", which has no fish. It's essentially the same pattern as other parts of Northrend: Any coastal region without a specific name contains inland fish.

I'm not sure what the best way to display this is in the Fish Finder. In the Azeroth zones added in The Burning Crusade, I added separate sub-zones for unnamed coastal water. In Northrend there is simply a little * note below the table.
