Scholomance

  1. Moth, December 2010:

Just tried to fish for Bloated Salmon but it seems that something changed in the zone, since I only could get the usual Western Plaguelands catch (Raw Mithril Head Trout, etc.) in the water around scholomance. Could it be that the zone Scholomance doesn't exist anymore in fishing terms?

  2. el, December 2010:

The entry for Scholomance refers to water inside the dungeon itself. Pre-Cataclysm there was a small area of water around one of the bosses that could be fished (I forget which, probably one of the final bosses). This dungeon (along with Stratholme and Molten Core) hasn't been re-checked yet, but all the other dungeons I checked had no changes to their fish catch, even where the waters around the outside of dungeon had changed. If anyone wants to check these unchecked locations, it would be appreciated.

  3. Ashnagarr, December 2010:

Yeah, its still possible after patch 4.0.3a to fish in the rooms of two bosses (end of the instance, go down the stairs and head right to the "Ravenier"-room or go straigt to the room of one of the Barovs, there are pools of water in both rooms where you can fish in).

However, it seems that the "Plated Armorfish" can't be catched there anymore (or I just had really bad luck).

I catched the following today while trying to get the "Plated Armorfish":
    26x Raw Redgill
    1x 18 Pound Salmon
    3x Major Healing Potion
    12x Lightning Eel
    77x Raw Whitescale Salmon
    63x Raw Sunscale Salmon

172 catches and no Plated Armorfish, although its chance is somewhere between 5% and 35%

What time were you fishing just to be sure?

Highest catch rate 00:00-06:00. Rarely caught 12:00-18:00.

    Went to check this evening;

    Location: The Molten Core
    Type: Lava
    Fishing Skill: 485
    Total Casts: 200

    Old Skull (junk) 121 - 60.5%
    Coal 74 - 37.0%
    Essence of Fire 5 - 2.5%

So no change here. Off to check Stratholme.

  3. el, December 2010:

Thanks for all the checks and data.

I'm surprised about the Plated Armorfish. When I last looked at this there was a small (~5%) chance of a catch between 12:00-18:00. However that was a few years ago - nobody was bothered about catching the fish until just recently - so it might have changed, or you may have been unlucky. You should have no trouble catching it at other times.

  4. Druidmoon, December 2010:

Location: Stratholme - The Gauntlet, Ziggurat of Baroness Anastari
    Type: Green Pool
    Fishing Skill: 493
    Total Casts: 225
    Server Time: 22:00 - 23:15

    90 Whitescale Salmon - 40.0%
    32 Ligntning Eel - 14.2%
    32 Nightfin Snapper - 14.2%
    31 Plated Armorfish - 13.8%
    27 Sunscale Salmon - 12.0%
    8 Redgill - 3.6%
    3 Superior Mana Potion - 1.3%
    2 Major Healing Potion - 0.9%

    Much as expected.

  5. Druidmoon, December 2010:

Location: Dire Maul - Warpwood Quarter, Hydraspawn Pool
    Type: Hydraspawn Pool
    Fishing Skill: 485
    Server Time: 23:15 - 00:00
    Total Casts: 100

    44 Whitescale Salmon - 44.0%
    16 Sunscale Salmon - 16.0%
    15 Nightfin Snapper - 15.0%
    13 Plated Armorfish - 13.0%
    6 Redgill - 6.0%
    5 Ligntning Eel - 5.0%
    1 Superior Mana Potion - 1.0%

Did not see any other data for Dire Maul to compare. Same catches as Stratholme/ Scholomance.

  6. Druidmoon, December 2010:

Location: Scholomance - Vault of the Ravenian
    Type: Pool of water
    Fishing Skill: 493
    Server Time: 23:15 - 01:10
    Total Casts: 326

    121 Whitescale Salmon - 37.1%
    92 Nightfin Snapper - 28.2%
    83 Plated Armorfish - 25.5%
    21 Redgill - 6.4%
    5 Ligntning Eel - 1.5%
    2 Sunscale Salmon - 0.6%
1 Elegant Circlet of the Owl 0.3%
    1 15 Pound Salmon 0.3%

Notes: Caught 7 Plated Armorfish before 00:00.

  7. el, December 2010:

Great work Moonraker. I wonder when fish started appearing in Dire Maul?

No idea I'm afraid. I was visiting the new sub-zone of The Steam Pools and decided to just pop in and try the pool as I was passing. No sure what other fishable parts there may be.

As a word of advice the Crescent Key is no longer in your key bag but the Dire Maul East back door still requires it. In fact you can get out using the torch on the wall (not obvious) and you can't enter in that way as it requires the key , which you don't have and I killed Pusillin twice to try and get it. It was in loot window but did not go to key bag. I think it is either removed for some reason or a bug. Just a pain.

  9. plinky, May 2011:

You can still catch the Plated Armorfish in Scholomance in the Barov Family Crypt at the end of the instance. I guess I was lucky because I hooked it in less than 10 casts.

Stratholme no longer fishable

  1. cayleb, August 2012:

Upon attempting to whittle down my lengthy list of fish to catch while simultaneously circuiting the world working on archaeology, I noted that Stratholme was listed as an excellent spot to catch Whitescale Salmon. (Of course with all the plague contamination in there, it's probably a good thing I'm not also working on my cooking!)

Alas, the green pools of goo inside the ziggurats in Stratholme are no longer fishable! Every cast that didn't result in a "cast did not land in fishable water" instead told me that "there are no fish here." (Does everyone's fishing pole talk or is that just something we draenei came up with?)

After having tried all three ziggurats from multiple angles with no difference, I left Stratholme and proceeded onwards to one of the ziggurats in Plaguewood, just to see if I was doing it wrong. But no, this ziggy was perfectly castable, and yielded some beautiful (if slightly plagued) Redgill.

Our days of urban apocalyptical ziggurat oceanography appear to be over, my friends.

I think you may have been fishing too long...

    Thanks for the update.
