Hello / Fishing Journal
Doubled, May 2008:
Greetings all. I found this site by looking for more info on the fishing journal which enables the Fish Finder ability. I was, of course, looking to see if I could find another and sell it. That being said, I have perused the postings and think I know what to look for, so, thanks for that.
I do have something to add: I found my Journal while fishing in Darkshore (Auberdine, right next to Bubba Gump in Floating Debris) within the 1st couple casts after getting the fishing ability.
That would mean that it should have been a Tightly Sealed Trunk.
So, I think you can add the Tightly Sealed Trunk to 'Journals can be found in Curious Crate, Heavy Supply Crate, Iron Bound Trunk, Mithril Bound Trunk and Watertight Trunk.'
Anyway, finding the journal has really made fishing quite fun and interesting.
Nice site, very useful. I just made Lvl 225 for fishing, and thanks to your site, I know how to progress in level. Thanks.el, May 2008:
I've added a reference on the Fish Finder. It is known that these trunks do sometimes contain a journal. I caught 30 Tightly Sealed Trunk during testing, and never saw a journal. So I'm inclined to conclude journals are less common in Tightly Sealed Trunks than other trunks and crates.
Calabar, May 2008:
Just to add my two coppers, I started a new character and I was fishing in oily blackmouth pools down the coast from Ratchet in hopes of pulling in some kind of trunk and getting the journal. I pulled in several tightly sealed trunks while fishing those pools and I got my journal in the second trunk. The journal may be more scarce in such trunks, but with Blizzard’s evil random loot generator it’s difficult to tell.
By the way, I would recommend that area as an option for young characters hoping to make a few coins. I found lots of oily blackmouth pools on the coast starting at Ratchet and heading toward Thousand Needles. There were few mobs around. The pirates near Ratchet are about level 14 and the critters in the water are about level 18. My dwarf was about level 25, so they didn’t bother him. Oily blackmouth sell for about 1 gold per five on my server, so the money was decent as there were lots of pools.
The fishing guide for making money suggests fishing up deviate fish in the various Barrens Oasis. As I could sell them for a gold per fish, even uncooked, that may still be the better suggestion. Even just standing and fishing in one spot after the pools are used up, which doesn’t take long at all, I pulled up a fair amount of deviate fish. But as I never pulled up any kind of trunk from those pools, I don’t know if the journal can be fished from them. So for those trying to get the journal, oily blackmouth pools are not bad for both journal fishing and for making a few coins on the side.

HAH great to know that in the Real World, this website is associated with the Journal.
Maybe it's listed in the "references" section? =)
