Perculia alerted me to a Wowhead comment suggesting the Impeccably Sharp Tooth can be caught from pools in Pandaria in patch 5.3. The item starts a Brawler's Guild quest - one of the new Challenge Cards.

I've only done a little fishing on the 5.3 PTR, so the item may just be rare. I don't have a Brawler's Guild rank there, which could be another factor: The item and card is bound, so it would be logical for it only to drop for those who have progressed with the Brawler's Guild. Another possibility is that the catch is more specific than "any pool in Pandaria" - although with this sort of item, I would typically expect catches from a broad range of locations and waters. There's also a remote possibility that the comment is misplaced or speculative, and the Impeccably Sharp Tooth can't be caught at all - but the way the comment is written, it sounds legitimate.

So if you catch an Impeccably Sharp Tooth with 5.3, please let us know both where (zone and water/pool type) and what your standing with the Brawler's Guild was, if any.

Patch 5.2 adds 4 new Tiny Carp minipets to the waters of Pandaria. Catching Tiny Carp is a detailed guide to catching these "very rare" fish.

Due to their rarity, we are not yet sure of all possible catch locations. The Pet Journal has hints, but is also misleading: For example, the Pet Journal does not report that Tiny Blue Carp can be caught from Fish of the Day pools in Townlong Steppes. But they were on the test realm.

If you catch a Tiny Carp, and you are sure about where you caught it, please let us know here. Especially if the location and water has not yet been confirmed. Please be sure to post the name (colour) of the Tiny Carp and the zone it was caught from, plus the area within the zone (inland, coastal, Sha-touched) for open water, or pool name for pools. If you've been counting, the number of casts before you got it. And for the super-observant, if you caught it while using an Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm, did you catch it alone in the loot window, or alongside a regular (non-Pagle/quest) catch?

Thanks in advance.

Hello there.

At the start of MoP, I gave up early on the Nat Pagle rep. I simply did not have the time to fish every day for hundreds of fish for the reputation fish. Although it was the last Fishing achievement I needed, it was not worth it for me.

I havent really looked into fishing for a while, but when I saw the 5.2 patch notes, it gave me another boost to start going for it again. Chance on pets while fishing for those quests, and a droprate I can live with. So for the last 7 days, I started fishing up the quests. Every day between 40-80 fish until I had all the 3 quests.

But today it was a whole other story. The Mimic Octupus already took longer then normal, something around 30 catches, ok, maybe bad RNG, dont worry (the last few days I always had it within 10-15 casts). Then Flying Tyger Gourami, again about 30 casts until I got it, a little above average, but not to bad. But then, Spinefish Alpha. I always fish at the same spot on Inkgill Mere. I took me over 240 casts to finally get one. It has never cost me more then 30 casts to get it. Does anyone else have the same problem? It was going so well, but I dont wanna fish for an hour again to get one fish a day.

Could it be because of the "daily fish"? Today it was Spinefish, in the same lake. I went for open water though, because I was sure that spot dropped the fish rather fast normally. I also had a lot more percentage of the poor quality fishbones.

I have the feeling that if you are fishing in water that contains the fish of the day, has the droprate reduced to 5.0 standards (for the Spinefish Alpha). I'm not sure if that counts for every Sha touched pool when fish of the day is Spinefish. But I doubt that with a 5% droprate you can have a bad RNG like I had.

Anyways, now I am finished typing this, and while typing came to the conclusion above, I'm not sure if I want to warn people or ask a question :p.

I'll keep it with a warning. Fellow anglers, do NOT fish for the Nat Pagle friendship fish quests in water that has "Fish of the Day" pools. 1% is not fun, not fun at all!

Hi i have been reading about this and it sounds great as each of my Fishing toon's has a lot of random fishing stuff in the bank Trophy's from fishing if you will ... What i am Wondering is does the Tackle box sit in your bags and open from them or does it take up a bag slot making not as nice and more of a Bank item ? It Would be SWEET if it just took up one slot in a Bag and did what it should help to have less in your bags !! Will this in fact be the case ???

Aestu on "Sea Pony Probability Hypothesis"

The Sea Pony, based on anecdotal evidence, seems to have much greater variation in its drop rate than most drops seen up to this time. Furthermore, there are an unusual number of anecdotes from players on this and many other sites citing extremely protracted drop rates on mains and surprisingly quick drops on alts - often serially.

Based on these anecdotes, my hypothesis is: the drop rate for the Sea Pony is scaled negatively against certain character statistics. Possible candidates that are relevant, objective, and consistent with this general pattern include:

- /played time
- Fishing skill
- Total fish caught
- Player level

Heading off the inevitable "random loot is random," I would point out it is not always that simple, and the WoW Dev Team has demonstrated an increased preference for curving over the years. Quest items, for example, used to have drop rates based on simple probability; today, the chance that most quest items will drop off applicable mobs scales directly with the number of applicable mobs previously looted. Although it is provably untrue that past results influence future performance, it is human nature to so believe, and it may well be good game design to corroborate this human attitude.

Rather than be content with what is a simple assumption, I think it most intelligent to collect data to corroborate or debunk my hypothesis.

To my knowledge, no automated tool exists to simultaneously collect and collate said data regarding character statistics and drop rates. Therefore, I can think of no better approach than for interested parties to simply post their data in this thread. From this, perhaps we can notice patterns (or the absence thereof).

I was just surprised by this on the live servers.

Thank you for this informative and useful guide! While using it, I noticed that the Dustwallow section appeared to be not updated given that there is a convenient Fishing Trainer located in Theramore. The NPC is Dirty Michael Crowe

Does anyone know if using the Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm while fishing the large Krakkanon pools lessens the time/number of casts required to spawn the Krakkanon? If these pools can typically contain up to 100 fish, would using the charm halve the effort required? Sorry in advance if this question doesn't make perfect sense >.<
