There's no evidence that the proportions of "proper fish" (not junk) change based on skill.

If you take a new angler to Northrend, they will still catch about the same proportions of proper fish. Of course the volume of junk caught is high, so the overall amount of proper fish caught is low. So a very subtle difference would be hard to spot.

While at first it might seem logical to want to reduce the proportion of semi-trash fish (like Bonescale Snapper), there are certain zones where it is hard to determine which fish you would not want to catch. Linking that to fishing skill could become very annoying - for example, if you were leveling cooking, where often the easiest skill points come from fish that are not rare or valuable (at auction).

I was under the impression that the percentages of catch rates don't change regardless of skill. So if you start fishing in Howling Fjord at level 1, and I start fishing at 450, and we both fish for four hours, we should be catching roughly the same percentages of each fish. Since my skill is much higher, I'll have way more fish and you'll have way more driftwood and weeds, but higher skill with lures, hats, poles, etc, won't make those catch ratios change.

This may have been addressed before. If so, I apologize.

Does your skill level affect your quality of catches beyond the junk vs. not junk? For example, in Howling Fjord, the default catch seems to be Bonescale Grouper. If you attach at lure, are you more likely to catch some less likely fish or is the chance to catch Bonescale vs. another the same? Anyone have information to answer? I haven't seen any advantage to the extra skill.
