El says: For new readers, I recommend the summary guide to the One That Didn't Get Away. Original post:

While most fishing achievements will not be possible to do before the 3.0 patch, or even the expansion itself, there are a few that you can do before that time.

Fish Don't Leave Footprints - learn the ability to find fish
Master Angler of Stranglethorn - win the Booty Bay fishing contest
Mr. Pinchy's Magical Crawdad Box - fish your way to Mr. Pinchy's Magical Crawdad Box
Old Crafty - fish up Old Crafty in Orgrimmar
Old Ironjaw - fish up Old Ironjaw in Ironforge

And finally:
One That Didn't Get Away - fish up one of the rare fish

Those first 5 are pretty straightforward. I'm not saying that they're all easy, but it's clear what you have to do. But I'm wondering about the last achievement, get one of the rare fish. Now, if you're like me, you don't want to buy one at the auction house, even if they're available. Which one of the rare fishes would you think is the easiest to get? Should we fish in a starter area for a chance of a big Mudsnapper or Catfish? Should we head to Azshara for a Lobster or Mightfish? Should we try to get the Rockhide Strongfish during the tournament?

First, i hope no one has posted this strategy yet. I checked around and didn't see anything like it.

I was able to "solo" the Lurker Achievement on the beta servers. It's not all that hard, it just takes some planning. Here's what you need:

Minimum:
A way to walk on water
A way to avoid falling damage (slow fall, pally bubble, blink, etc.)
300(?) fishing skill

Method 1:
4-9 other players (not sure exactly)

Method 2:
1 other player
some way to kill yourself

The first obstacle is getting past the waterfall entrance. In method 1, the waterfall entrance opens up the way it normally would, by having a minimum number of raid members, which is either a total of 5 or 10 (I forget which).

In method 2, you only need one other player. Invite this person into a raid group, and they're part is done as long as they don't leave the group; they can go and continue to do whatever they want. Now go up to the waterfall and kill yourself. When you run back as a ghost, you will be able to run through the waterfall. Resurrect on the other side, and go in.

One other method is to have another raid group open up the waterfall for you, but you still need at least one other person in order to form a raid group and enter.

Once inside, however you did it, go to the ledge between the second elevator and before the first pull. Activate your water walking. Now jump off the ledge and fall to the water. Activate your method for avoiding fall damage. Now you can walk all the way to the Lurker's pool without any of those nasty fish getting in your way!

Lastly, be sure to remove any gear that you want to avoid taking durability damage. The achievement only requires you to fish him up, but he will instantly aggro you once you do so and very likely kill you.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f165/spleenseer/WoWScrnShot_091208_145320.jpg

You're now one achievement closer to the Salty title!

Hi there.

While attempting to catch a Giant Sewer Rat in the shallow water in the Circle of Wills (the area with arena masters in the Underbelly), I had someone come up and tell me I was fishing in the wrong place. He said I needed to be down below, where Cantrips and Crows is.

Can anyone confirm or deny this please?

I saw a hint about this mentioned somewhere but I thought I'd start a thread on it here.

So I finished the Wrathgate quest line in Dragonblight today and I'm doing the followup quest "Fate, Up Against Your Will"
This quest sends you to Orgrimmar on a diplomatic mission to speak with Warchief Thrall.

At first I though I was instanced since there are Guards but they don't attack and there are no other NPCs or players.
Turns out it's the real Orgrimmar, just "filtered" using some new mechanic that Blizz has added to the game.
Other players can't see you and you can't see them unless they are on the same quest.
NPCs that you can see are altered by the quest.

The upside is you can fish in Orgrammar as long as you like without guards or players attacking you.
I will not turn in this quest until I have caught Old Crafty.
With a little luck I may catch the really big catfish while I'm at it.

Ever since I got myself down to leveling fishing and cooking till November 18th (The day when Northrend opened around here), This website has been my only stop for my preparation before Northend.

Nowhere else I could find the information about fishes and recipes, and in fact, following this website's guide to 450 in fishing netted me a nice Feat of Strength, the first person to get 450 cooking in the realm! (It turns out that it wasn't only the realm but the whole country XD)

Now I can finally level my character to 80, and hopefully obtain the Chef title as well.

Once again, thank you for creating such a wonderful website :)

PS. cool, my armory link is working. :P

Like everyone else I am working on the achievement "one that didn't get away" and as I looked up the location of each of the fish types and started fishing for them a question occured to me. Take for example the 68 LB Grouper or 103 LB might fish which is said to be caught in Azshara. Do I have to be in an area where I'm catching varied versions of a said fish in order to catch its rare xx pound version or could a 103 LB might fish be caught in an area where i am only catching yellowtails and winter squid?

Yesterday I found myself near Elwynn Forest, so I thought it would be a good time to pick up the Stormwind half of the Fishing Diplomat achievement.

I've found that ever since they changed the entry guards to be lvl 75 rather than 65, sneaking in through the front door is a no-no; even with +stealth trinkets working overtime, they see right through it. My Vanish only has about a 50% chance of getting them off my back. Instead I've discovered that the best way to get into Stormwind is to come the back way through the new harbor around back. You can swim there from the Westfall/Elwynn border, and the guards are all lvl 65. Keep in mind that fishing from Stormwind Harbor does NOT count toward your Fishing Diplomat achievement; you have to apparently fish from inside the city walls for the achievement to take.

I was able to stealth to the canals without much problem and grab my single catch. Since I was already in SW and the Deeprun Tram was not that far from me, I figured I'd take my chances at Old Ironjaw.

Stealthing to the tram was not a problem; I think there was a single guard I had to avoid on the way. Once I got into the tram I opted to run the rails rather than take the tram, as I was still flagged and I didn't want to draw unnecessary attention to myself.

I came out at Ironforge in Tinkertown, which is very close to the Forelorn Cavern. This was indeed much better than coming through the front door! This way I'd have to deal with at most 5 lvl 75 guards rather than the score or so that I'd have to deal with from the front entry. However 5 guards was about 5 more than I wanted to deal with!

I mounted up and started to make a mad dash toward the cavern. Sure enough, the first pair of guards aggroed me. I then rode straight into the middle of the second pair, and picked up their aggro as well. I was almost to the cavern when they dismounted me, so I dropped a Vanish and prayed. I got the message "Leaving Combat" and breathed a sigh of relief.

About one second later I encountered the fifth guard, whom I had not counted on. This guard pats the wall directly across from the cavern entrance. If I'd stuck to the south wall there's a very good chance I could have avoided him. I knew I was going to die but I figured I'd at least do it in a good position. So I ran for the water and managed to swim about halfway across the pool before I got killed.

After that, it was easy. I did the necessary corpse-run, edged myself against the south wall, did a /sleep command to bring a low profile, and started fishing.

At first I had the place entirely to myself. After a couple of minutes a Human Paladin showed up and I started to get worried; I really didn't want to fight anybody, I just wanted a nice pacifist fishing trip. After a few seconds he waved at me and proceeded to fish by my side. Awesome.

Every couple of minutes another Alliance character would ride by the pool. Most didn't even see me, but some would stop and look at me for a few seconds and then ride on. I only had one character try to pick on me, a Draenei Shaman. My solution to this was to Vanish and then move to another spot. He tried to locate me again but with no luck, and eventually went away. I then unstealthed and proceeded to start fishing again, and the two people who'd showed up there to fish cheered as I reappeared. What a great thing: cameradery between the factions, and all because of fishing!

Finally (after about 150-200 throws) I got my prize - Old Ironjaw. The two other fishermen cheered me again, I took a bow, and I hearthed the heck out of there.

In a nutshell, it's very possible and not that hard, as long as you come in through the back door at Stormwind and take the Deeprun Tram. Most people will ignore you (at least they did me) as long as you stick to fishing and don't try to fight anybody. If you are attacked it may even be best to take the blows and not fight back so that when you return the people who witnessed the battle know that you're not interested in fighting, just fishing.

In the achievement "One That Didn't Get Away" there's a requirement for a Baby Coralshell Turtle. Has anyone seen this one yet? Does anyone know anything about this catch?

Searching for "Coralshell" on sites like Wowhead only returns Coralshell Tortoise and Lurker which are both found in Northern Azshara. I'm guessing you have to fish up the Baby Coralshell Turtle there. Might it be a pet?
