Here's a pretty nifty macro I cooked up.

When you click it, it will first attempt to equip your fishing gear (Hat and Kalu'ak pole in my case).
The next click will use your Weather Beaten Fishing Hat to put the +75 lure on your Fishing Pole.
Any subsequent clicks will simply cast your fishing line as normal (until your fishing lure runs out, then it will refresh it!)

#showtooltip Fishing
/script UIErrorsFrame:UnregisterEvent("UI_ERROR_MESSAGE");
/equip Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole
/equip Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat
/use Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat
/script UIErrorsFrame:RegisterEvent("UI_ERROR_MESSAGE");
/use Fishing

Enjoy!!

So I started playing around with macros a while ago. I settled on the following 2 for my fishing stuff.

First off I use the Fishingx4 one described other places on site (http://www.elsanglin.com/forums/topic/my-winner-macro) but I modified it to fit my needs:

/cast [button:1] Fishing
/cast [button:1] Fishing
/cast [button:1] Fishing
/cast [button:1] Fishing
/use [button:2] Sharpened Fish Hook
/use [button:2] Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000

For those of you who don't speak Macro. By clicking the left mouse button (or pressing the hotkey) I will cast. And if I hit the right mouse button it will attach a lure (I have to have my fishing pole. I realize that you can set it up to not display the error messages (again http://www.elsanglin.com/forums/topic/my-winner-macro) but it was more important to me to use the button for attaching lure. Naturally if you want to use this replace the pole and lure with the one you're using. You can also set it up for Alt+click or Shift+click or Ctrl+click but I didn't want to have to remember which one was which.

The second is so I don't have to think about equipping my pole and back again...with a twist:

#show Speckled Tastyfish
/equipslot 16 Victorious Spellblade
/equipslot 17 Vile Tome of Tenets
/equipslot 16 Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000

First off the button itself acts as a counter during the Fishing Extravaganza. Second off it will equip my pole (or regular gear) by clicking it. I was reading all kinds of macro guilds on how to switch from one-handed to two-handed weapons to make this one. Then found out it's as simple as shown above. If I click it when I have my regular gear equipped it will equip fishing pole. If I click it when I have fishing pole equipped it will equip my regular gear. The downside to this is I have to change the main hand and off hand everytime I upgrade...which since I'm still leveling it happens quite often. Naturally to adapt this one to your use simply replace the "Victorious Spellblade" with your main hand weapon (or 2-handed weapon) and "Vile Tome of Tenets" with your off hand (or remove it completely if you are a 2-hander). And replace your fishing pole and even the fish if you want it to count something else (lures or other fish you're catching).

Hope this gives you guys looking for macros some more ideas. It's all about how you want stuff to work....

Subject: an easier way to fish and do something else simultaneously.

Me: I'm looking for the sea turtle.

Method: I fished fangtooth pools till I found the dark herring. I've since caught 3 bank tabs worth of blackbelly mudfish.

Dilemma: I don't find fishing especially enthralling, so I tend to watch movies, netcasts, read novels whilst I fish. I use a "double-click to cast" addon to cast, then watch the movie, read the page until I hear the bobber splash.

The old me: I would frantically search and make sure my cursor was on the bobber, and click, hoping it wasn't the "last second bobber" - (you hearty fishermen all know what I'm talking about). I would often miss or be too late, even in my haste, making me sad/throwing off my viewing/reading experience.

*****Important part******
The new me: I bound a key to: INTERACT WITH MOUSEOVER in the Targeting Functions section of the default keybinding menu . Now, I cast, check for a pool landing, place my cursor on the bobber, and let go of the mouse. When I hear the splash, I simply press the keyboard. No more missed fish. Ever. And my eyes never leave the book/movie screen.
*****End of Importance******

I hope this helps someone else fish more efficiently/enjoyably.

I am starting a collection of all my weighed fish catches, keeping one of every size. I even set up a dedicated alt bank tab for it.

What I was wondering is if anyone has heard of or could make an addon that puts the weight of the fish in the bag and bank space similiar to the way the Tabard addon actually lets you see the tabard image. This would make it so much easier to see what you have and what you still need.

Then hopefully when your aquarium of weighed fish is complete, you could screen shot and share you wonderful collection.

While trying to get myself a rare for "One That Didn't Get Away" achievement I was very aware that I would be fishing for a very long time. In order to reduce the amount of downtime due to deleting the junk fish (aka, "throwing them back") from my already nearly-full bags, I sought out an addon to allow me to only keep certain items.

I found LootFilter, which mostly works, but allows you to add items to a delete list so they are immediately deleted when looting (beware, deletes the whole stack(s), so don't use this once you have *enough* of something).

Now I'm off to catch my 15 pound mud snapper (caught two 12-pounders in the first 37 catches)!

Also, I can't believe this is the first time I've bothered posting here. I've been a long time user and fan of the site. Thanks for everything.

Now what should I do with my second Old Crafty?

EDIT: Caught the mud snapper! Amazingly, it only took 167 casts! Time to go see if my luck will carry over to catching Mr. Pinchy!

I am curious if anyone has found an AddOn that changes the color of your cast bar when your bobber bobs? Often times I fish while doing other things and if another fisherman/fisherwoman comes by, I lose sync with my fishing. If anyone knows of an AddOn like this, please let me know.

Ello o/

I was wondering if there's an addon that changes the sound of the fishing bobber when catching a fish.

I currently use FishermansFriend (don't need/want all the extra options from Fishing Buddy) and I love it. The thing I don't like is when fishing close to someone their sound goes just as loud as mine and I sometimes click the bobber at the wrong time because of it. Since I mostly fish and watch tv or do something else I'd like to prevent such confusion.

Now I saw a Bert and Ernie thing in the addons section, but I'd rather not have them saying that stuff while watching a movie or something :P
Second question would be; would any such addon change the sound of other ppl catching fish as well? Cause in that case it won't matter anyways :>

Cheers,
I don't promise to get to them all, but at least half of what Fishing Buddy does is from requests -- so bring them on!

So, yeah, it's me again.

I was just wondering, what kind of addon for fishing do you use, to keep track of fishes, etc..

I tried using Fishing Buddy, but it didn't work for some reason, WoW wouldn't pass the loading screen. Do you guys have any tips you could give a newbie angler? =) Thanks for the help in advance.

After losing Old Ironjaw again, I got frustrated and decided to attempt a fix.

I'm using FishermansFriend for doubleclick casting. I haven't seen any kind of attempt to fix this problem anywhere, so thought i might aswell share.

I've included the change here:
http://devcub.com/~adys/FishermansFriend.zip

If you don't use FMF and can find yourself in a Lua file, just include this snippet at the start of the cast function (likely an OnClick):

if StaticPopup_Visible("LOOT_BIND") then return print("Loot before recasting!") end

Didn't have the occasion to test the change, but it should work and not cast anything if the BoP confirmation box is up. I'd test with Old Crafty but I don't have the daily atm and I'm alliance. If someone could do that.. would be great.

I've a little bit of data from fishing up coins and searching for Pinchy that I'd like to share. How do I get all this data from Fishing Buddy? I can't just read the screen cause only the first 20 or so lines are shown and there are a lot more coins than that?

I can see it all in the FishingBuddy.lua file so there must be some way of getting it out.

If anyone just wants my lua file, I'm happy to email it.

Greetings All,

First post!

I've thought of a great fishing addon, that would really appeal to the collectoholic in me...
Called 'Aquarium' - it'd be a graphical checklist of all the fish in the game, which would be displayed in one big chart, with a small grayed-out pic of the fish. When you catch it, it would light-up and also add the time, date and location where you caught it. It would have to be all the fish, all the quest fish, STV fish and all the ??-pound fish. Obviously you wouldn't need to keep the fish afterwards, just catch it.

Kinda like the old panini football sticker albums, lol!

The only 'slight' flaw in the plan is I have no clue how to create addons...

What d'you guys think? Is it something you'd like to see?

Hi, a while back (way back when fishing buddy's ability to recast when catching was removed in fact) I wrote an addon to help streamline my fishing experience.

I was poking about with it yesterday fixing a few things and I decided I might as well release it into the wild and see if anyone else finds it useful.

It adds a button to the minimap which toggles "fishing mode" - when active, buttons are shown for creating a campfire, cooking, attaching a lure (automatically selects your best lure) and casting your line (though this is rebound to middle mouse while the menu is open).

Also, activating fishing mode sets your tracking mode to fish (if available) and equips your best rod, fishing hat and boots (if available) - when leaving fishing mode your original gear and tracking options are restored (and if you get attacked while fishing, it'll automatically re-equip your weapons).

You can get it from http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/12079/ and if anyone could test it with the fishing boots and the new hat (neither of which i have) I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks for reading =]
