Noticed today that when fishing I went to open the map as normal just to check a location and the map animation broke my 'Fishing' channelled spell, as I opened up the scroll. Pretty annoying and not sure if it is intended.

Anyone know of a way to disable the animation?

Hey all

This will only really help the US players, but it's better than nothing I guess.

It appears that Blizzard have forgot to add the zonewide shout, announcing the beginning and the winner of the Fishing Extravaganza, to Northern Stranglethorn Vale.

I guess it's a bug on Blizzards end, so if you're doing the Fishing Extravaganza today, make sure you stick to the Cape of Stranglethorn.

This post lists all known bugs and illogical/inconsistent issues related to fishing in the Cataclysm beta. These come from various sources - I'd encourage anyone in the beta to check these and add/remove from the list. With only a month until release, it is highly likely that these issues will simply become features, especially as fishing has a very low priority for bug fixes.

I've ignored bugs which have been in WoW so long they have become features, such as the tendency for unnamed coastal areas of zones to contain inland fish, except where this could be easily fixed (i.e. there is no inland water, so defaults can be set to coastal).

This topic is for bugs only. Please continue to use the original Cataclysm topic to report new fishing discoveries - http://www.elsanglin.com/forums/topic/cata-fishing .

General (background information can be found at http://www.elsanglin.com/cataclysm.html )

[Fixed] Fishing skill-ups (may?) occur with every catch between 500 and 525. On average, 450 to 500 requires 9.25 catches per skill-up, so 500+ should require at least this number.

Fishing skill-ups just before 300 are far higher than at any other point in the curve - averaging 12 between 295 and 300, but reaching almost 20 by 299. Likely a weakened version of an old bug with the leveling curve around this point.

Working Overtime (guild achievement) may not apply to fishing skill-ups. Tests between 150 and 225 fishing show no difference. There is conflicting evidence above 450. Is fishing a "tradeskill"?

Abyssal Clam cannot (yet) be caught by fishing, but is listed in The Oceanographer achievement.

The Limnologist achievement requires Bloated fish, which are exceptionally rare, making the current achievement difficulty far in excess of One That Didn't Get Away. Unless it is intended that these catches be re-introduced as more common pool catches.

The Oceanographer associates Bloated Salmon, Raw Redgill, Raw Sunscale Salmon, and Raw Whitescale Salmon with coastal waters. This was not the case prior to Cataclysm, when they were caught inland.

[Fixed 2 December 2010] Weather-Beaten Hat can be gained at level 10 (via Old Azeroth dailies), but retains fantastic stat bonuses for that level.

High Test Eternium Fishing Line still displays as a +2 bonus.

Heat-Treated Spinning Lure's "Even works in lava!" description is misleading text, because all fishing currently works in lava, regardless of gear. Unimplemented feature?

Most areas of lava can be fished with fishing skill 1, and never yield junk. Even where the prevailing no-junk skill is far higher, such as Mount Hyjal. Searing Gorge is the only (?) exception.

Old Azeroth is currently over-populated by Sagefish/Greater Sagefish schools. Assumed to be placeholders; terribly boring if intended: Old Azeroth's pools tend to contain fish that aren't in demand.

[Known issue] Bobber may splash as the fishing cast bar completes and the bobber disappears, making clicking challenging.

[Fixed in 13224] Effective total bonus to fishing skill are not displayed on the professions tab, as it was on the old UI.

Cooking

[Fixed] Lavascale Minestrone recipe makes skilling up cooking far too easy: It is trained (via recipe) at cooking 450, but remains orange until 515. It should be trained at 500, else leveling cooking with fishing is simply a case of catching and cooking Lavascale Catfish.

Cooking recipes formerly sold in Steamwheedle Port (Gikkix and Jabbey) are no longer obviously available, resulting in several fish becoming uncookable. Leveling cooking becomes rather too challenging.

On the flip side, Vivianna (alliance vendor for certain recipes) exists *twice* in the new Feathermoon Stronghold.

Dalaran Cooking Awards are still required to level cooking between 425 and 450 (to purchase recipes and potentially ingredients). This is inconsistent for 2 reasons: (1) It requires new characters to undertake daily quests from the previous expansion before they can proceed into the latest expansion (which has never matched WoW design logic). (2) Cooks (especially low levels, who cannot access Dalaran dailies) can step over this gap by spending a month conducting Stormwind/Orgrimmar cooking dailies for their +1 cooking skill bonus (requiring this is equally messy design part-way through the leveling curve).

[Un-fixed by removal of recipe from vendors, ~3 December 2010] Recipe: Feathered Lure cannot be learnt.

Quests

Nat Pagle will still sell Mudskunk Lures to anyone that previously completed Nat's Measuring Tape, disregarding all the Zul'Gurub changes.

Darkshore Grouper are only required for a quest, yet are not flagged as quest items, and can (still) be caught regardless of whether the quest is on your log.

Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme can be completed at skill 225/level 35 (when it is first available), but has become somewhat harder due to the changes to the Swamp of Sorrows: Not only are level 35s being sent to a 50+ zone, but that zone's no-junk skill is now 425, so even with heavy luring, a lot of junk will be caught before the quest fish drops.

Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme's Savage Coast Blue Sailfin can be caught from any part of the coast in Northern Stranglethorn, not just the Savage Coast. This contrasts to The Cape of Stranglethorn, where the fish can only be caught from the named area (Southern Savage Coast).

Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza's School of Tastyfish are badly broken. The event places Tastyfish pools directly on top of regular pools (making the catch somewhat random). As the contest progresses, individual pools (of both Tastyfish and regular varieties) can be found independently. All pools should be Tastyfish.

Drops from the Royal Monkfish (Big Gulp) challenge the quest anti-randomness mechanics (the longer you try, and more likely a positive result becomes), because there are 2 randoms in play: First the catch, and then the contents. This can make the quest highly variable.

Overgrown Earthworm (Diggin' For Worms) are hard to see.

Items for the quest "A Golden Opportunity" are not removed once the quest is complete.

Zones (background information can be found at http://www.elsanglin.com/fish/cataclysm/ )

Arathi Highlands's Forbidding Sea (secret east coast) has not been adjusted down one tier in no-junk skill and catch-table, like the rest of the zone.

Azshara is in a huge mess: Newly designed areas (including Arcane Pinacle, Bilgewater Harbor, Bitter Reaches, Gallywix Pleasure Palace, and Lake Mennar) have appropriate catch/skill for the 10-20 level of the zone. Areas which have not changed so much (including Bay of Storms, Jagged Reef, The Ruined Reaches, The Shattered Strand, and Southridge Beach) still have their pre-Cataclysm catches and skill.

Badlands zone default catches can be safely set to coastal fish, since there isn't (obviously) any inland water. Currently coastal fish can be caught from Fuselight-by-the-Sea, but unnamed coastal areas nearby contain inland fish.

Blasted Lands is in a huge mess: Water at The Sunveil Excursion contains lava catches, and has very low no-junk skill. Inland water contains fish normally associated with 425-skill areas, but can be fished at similarly low skill without junk. Coastal water at Surwich could be usefully classified as coastal.

Burning Steppes' water inside The Skull Warren (at Dreadmaul Rock) contains lava catches.

[Fixed ~4 December 2010] Deadwind Pass *still* contains (TESTING) flagged pools with no contents.

Deepholm's lava (at Deathwing's Fall) contains regular zone catches.

[Fixed ~4 December 2010] Elwynn Forest's School of Fish is tagged "TESTING", but still provides an infinite supply of Peacebloom, so will remain on the list until actually removed.

Feralas is in a mess: Both Jademir Lake and Verdantis River remain unchanged, even though the rest of the zone has been adjusted downwards in skill and catches.

Gilneas is inconsistent between phased states: Leveling Worgens only catch Raw Slitherskin Mackerel, while others fishing (the same water) in the Ruins of Gilneas catch a wider range of coastal fish (a tier higher, including Raw Rainbow Fin Albacore). No-junk skills are probably also inconsistent, but this is hard to confirm at such low values.

Hillsbrad Foothills' Lordamere Lake contains *both* regular and greater Sagefish pools, often almost on top of one another.

Mount Hyjal's lava (The Throne of Flame) can be fished without junk at skill 1. Far lower than the 575 required for the rest of the zone. Cave areas of lava (especially in the Firelands) contain normal water fish, not lava catches.

Northern Stranglethorn's Sundering contains inland water. This is inconsistent with Darkshore, where seawater flowing inland yields coastal catches. The South Seas (south-east coastline) have higher-tier catches and skill than the rest of the zone, for reasons unclear.

Orgrimmar's Goblin Slums may report at error message that fish are getting away at low (under 25) skill. Same issue reported at Thunder Falls in Elwynn Forest.

Southern Barrens' lava (at The Great Divide) contains coastal fish.

The Steam Pools currently contain no fish.

Stormwind City's harbor contains inland fish... again.

The Cape of Stranglethorn contains pools under the surface of the land, especially on the north-west edge. Inland water above Booty Bay contains coastal fish. Jaguero Isle retains a higher tier of fish catches, but now at the same skill as the rest of The Cape of Stranglethorn.

Twilight Highlands' Obsidian Lair contains coastal fish. Cannon's Inferno lava has lower no-junk skill than the rest of the zone.

Uldum has pool phasing issues, especially along the coast and the Obelisk of the Moon, where pools disappear upon entering a sub-zone. The Chamber of the Moon (which is underground, and a long way inland) contains coastal fish.

Un'Goro Crater's no-junk skill is probably 375, which is 50 points lower than anywhere else with the same catches (except Blasted Lands, which is plain broken).

Vashj'ir's catches are inconsistent between subzones, for no logical reason - specifically generic (unnamed) parts of the Shimmering Expanse have a wider variety of fish than other parts of Vasj'ir. Pre-Cataclysm fish, such as Deep Sea Monsterbelly and Giant Sunfish may be caught.

Haven't read about this yet but do you noticed that nowadays when fishing and the channeling of 17 second ends.
If you get a fish in that last split second you usually miss it since you don't click fast enough?

Before cataclysm you usually had a leeway of around 1 sec or so even after the channeling ended to click on the bobber and get your fish.

I'm on a high speed internet (city wide network) with 100/100 speed and my ping-times are usually around 80-200 to server depending on time of day and load on server etc.

Is this intended? or do you think like me that its an annoying bug?

Just to confirm what el observed recently. From the latest hotfix 07 December list;

There is no longer a School of Fish in Elwynn Forest that like to think of themselves as in "testing," nor do they yield Peacebloom when fished. This School of Fish is no longer a part of the counterculture and will no longer give you flowers when fished.

source: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/1232869

Also confirmation on the removal of the Fishing Lure. Hopefully it will make a reappearance.

Recipe: Feathered Lure is no longer on the vendor list for the Cooking reward vendors, as it's returning an error "The Spell is not available to you" when players attempt to learn it.

And also, they obviously read el's beta thread ;) because;

There was an inconsistency in Cooking skill-ups between Lavascale Minestrone and Lavascale Fillet which has been addressed.

It requires 500 Cooking skill now to use, although from comment on wowhead this is not retrospective and was still 450 for those that had already brought it.

As noted on the homepage here it is/was possible to cast into the new zones from just outside without the use of any exploit etc.

I have been fishing around the Twilight Highlands since the patch went live yesterday and caught a fair few fish (fishing skill 568 with lure) However this evening about an hour ago suddenly I was just catching junk and no window for what was fish. Reading around apparently Blizzard have now hotfixed it to remove fish from the fishing table of this zone and presumably others.

For the record from the Thandol Valley between Arathi Highlands and Wetlands, in the part marked as The Forbidding Sea (but still in Arathi Highlands local channel) with skill level 568 I caught the following;

The Forbidding Sea - Twilight Highlands Open Water - Coastal

Murglesnout - 271 - 35%
Deepsea Sagefish - 170 - 22%
Algaefin Rockfish - 81 - 10%
Volatile Water - 56 - 7%
Junk - 176 - 26%
+ a few empty windows after hotfix

TOTAL = 754

Haven't had a chance to test anywhere else yet, but I noticed something odd in WG today doing the daily...

I had to stand almost IN the water for the cast to go through, if I stood even a little ways out, I got the 'didn't land in fishable water' error. I noticed a lot of people with this issue, and even standing on the little floating ice chunks didn't seem to help.

Definitely NOT something that was there last time I was in the zone.

I was waiting on a respawn of U'cha in Un'Goro Crater ( the ape cave in the north eastern corner of the map) and had some time to kill. Just so you know U'cha spawns in a little area of water that my gnome could happily walk around in.

So, I decide to waste the time by seeing if i could fish it. I hit the fishing button expecting to see that water to shallow to fish message and sure enough instead i get a successful cast. Hmmm. After a few more casts, my bobber is completely in the stone pillar in the center of the water.

Is this just a bug? Every other time I have fished where i could walk i would get the water too shallow message (grrrrr those stupid pools on the STV coast).

Anyone else have any weird fishing locations?
