For one thing, when I first logged the quest and saw that I was in Org without aggro, the first thing I thought was "Hey! Now I can fish up Ol' Crafty!" (I had gotten Fishing Diplomat long ago.)</p> <p>At that time I did knock off Ragefire Chasm, and had Saunders logged in PhOrg for the longest time, racking up cast after cast-- 1500 by my tick-mark count of stacks of fish thrown away. Then I hearthstoned, intending to return at some future date and get that dang rare fish. (I tried the Crocolisks in the City trick, but it didn't work; although I could catch Ol' Crafty, he was unlootable.)</p> <p>Now, I file a lot of reports. Goldspammers, deadvertisers, bugs, etc.; and I'm polite about it, so when I interact with a GM, it's a decent experience. I filed one a little while ago, chatted with the replying GM, and was told that there is now no fishing in PhOrg. I went in with another chara and the GM was right. I could also not get into RFC. Your loot window will show empty for each cast UNTIL you catch the baby crocolisk. The baby crocolosk will show as a "normal" catch and when you loot it, you will receive the achievement Fishing Diplomat.</p> <p>Note:<br /> I have fished in phased Orgrimmer both with and without the Crocolisk iIn The City quest in my log.<br /> My loot window always came up empty except when I caught the baby crocolisk.</p> <p>I fished maybe 100 casts and did not see hide nor hair of Old Crafty. Everyone says you can not catch him in phased Orgrimmar, but since I got Fishing Diplomat I wonder. I could cast, and the bobber would jump, but when I clicked, I got no fish and no message. It's been a while...). They removed the ability to catch anything while you're in that. So just to make sure, were you all in the normal 'walk in the front door and avoid all the guards' version?</p> <p>In the phased version, there are no hostile guards, and you won't see any Horde players, so there's no real risk involved, and I think that's why Blizz removed fishing from there. As an alliance player, I went to Orgrimmar, in particular the Vally of Spirits. Hiding behind the house there, I cast my line several times, and never caught anything. (Skill 260ish) The friend that went with me was just learning to fish, and she caught nothing but gray trash. No actual fish came up for either of us, but we were both getting skillups. The loot window would pop, but it'd be empty for me, or gray trash for her.</p> <p>So I bugged another buddy with 450 skill, and he had the same issue I did. Loot window pops, nothing in it.</p> <p>At this point, I'm scratching my head. What's going on? Now here's the really strange part.</p> <p>I had a friend that plays a horde alt, so I asked him to see if he could catch fish in the same area. He gets there, and starts fishing, has no issue. Starts wandering around looking for me, and when he gets to where I'm standing....I'm not there. Since you can't really hide in Ironforge (trust me, people will kill you just for trying the sleeping underwater trick) I learned quite a few techniques for communicating and gathering supporters from the Alliance side, none of which involved /beg or making an alt.</p> <p> I find that if you're out in the open, wearing fishing gear, you're less likely to be griefed than if you're hiding and trying to be sneaky. Some of these are beyond difficult. I quit counting casts for Ol Ironjaw at about 3,600! At least I've seen other people catch him, so I know he's real. I didn't even bother to start counting casts for Ol Crafty. And after hours of grinding away at him, I'm about ready to give up on that achievement. I went with the crocolisk quest (not yet completed) to try to confirm the reports that that's not helping either since 3.0.8 (but mostly because I was grasping at straws to try to get this fish without days of being ganked). After getting two crocolisks without Old Crafty I gave up on that helping either and looted one. 190 fish later, I got my Old Crafty. WHEW. So I can confirm the following:</p> <p>Fishing in phased Orgrimmar no longer works, with the exception that you can fish up the crocolisk if you have that quest. This could still help alliance who want to get the Fishing Diplomat achievement in safety.</p> <p>Fishing in regular Orgrimmar while you have the crocolisk quest active will not help you get Old Crafty. However, neither will it hurt your chances.</p> <p>On to Ironforge! The first time I went I got empty loot windows. On subsequent attempts nothing happened when I clicked the bobber. (Although it's possible autoloot being on at some times and not others might have been involved there.) I did get a Crocolisk when I went with that quest open, but just the Crocolisk itself...and the fishing diplomat achievement lol. </p> <p>I petitioned inquiring whether this is a bug or a fix and have been notified that my petition was escalated, so I continue to cling to the hope that this might be a bug and not intentional. I'll update if I hear anything further. You may not want to drop your quest to get into Orgrimmar yet!</p> <p>Edit: Ah, alas. "Upon further investigation, the behavior you reported is functioning normally and correctly." I was able to catch the baby croc (for the daily) with no problem, but nothing came with it. (Before the patch, it was never the only item in that catch.) After the patch, with every cast the bobber bounces and splashes as usual, but the loot box comes up and shows nothing in it. However, in the upper left hand corner of the frame of the box is the old skull and crossbones that I'm sure we've all seen before when there's nothing to loot. </p> <p>It looks deliberate to me. </p>
