Love the site. Although with the guild achievement "That's A Lot of Bait", it's a good idea to do as much fishing as possible from pools. And still get your cooking maxed out. Unfortunately, it's not possible to pool fish from level 1 and provide materials for your cooking at the same time. However, once your cooking is up to skill 300, it's possible to go the rest of the way to 525 using nothing but fish obtained from pools.

The Spotted Feltail from Brackish Mixed School can be cooked starting at skill 300 and can carry you all the way to skill 330 before they turn green. But at skill 325, you can learn how to cook your Golden Darter of which you should have plenty of since they can also come from the same Brackish Mixed School. And the Darters will carry your cooking up to 355 before they turn green as well.

At 350, Northrend opens up and the cooking skill ups there are easy. Just get Imperial Manta Ray from the Imperial Manta Ray School that litter the southern coast of Northrend. Cook Baked Manta Ray until your skill reaches 400. And then cook Imperial Manta Steak from that point until your skill is at least 450.

The next place to go is Mt Hyjal for Mountain Trout. Cook them until your skill reaches 475. At 475, head over to Twilight Highlands and get Highland Guppy for the materials to get you to skill 500. Then for the final push to 525, decide if you want to cook Algaefin Rockfish, Blackbelly Mudfish, or Fathom Eel depending upon which cooks up into something most useful to you.

Hello!

I started to level one of my character's fishing and cooking.

For the part of the topic you mentioned for Wrath of the Lich King and Dalaran Cooking awards I notice that you do not need these anymore.

From any cooking trainer you can buy all the recipes you mentioned above from Wrath and some other additional ones from the Cooking trainer!

Which is very convenient!

Here are the recipes I got from the Cooking trainer but I am not sure which ones require cooking rewards.

Fisherman's Feast, Hot Buttered Trout, Spicy Crawdad
Baked Manta Ray, Dalaran Clam Chowder, Grilled Sculpin
Mammoth Meal, Pickled Fangtooth, Poached Nettlefish
Rhino Dogs, Roasted Worg, Shoveltusk Steak
Smoked Salmon, Worm Delight

Anyways yeah! Thanks for the guide, this helps alot !

Hit the icebergs off the Kal'auk village in BT. Good respawn rate and not a lot of competition since they moved the Monsterbelly quest to Darlaran.
If you're a lowbie alliance, you can use water walking/riding to get there safely from Valliance Keep.

I understood that the turtle can also drop from Cataclysm pools. Do double-check, I'm not 100% sure. But if so, you're better off fishing in Cataclysm pools, the fish will be worth more.

So my guild is hosting a 2 day fishing contest to try to get people involved in helping to get the achievment and new fish feast. What I'm told is that it doesn't matter where you fish, as long as you fish in pools. I was thinking about fishing pools in Wrath as I never got the turtle mount but was wondering if anyone had any advice or tricks. Where might the most pools, or most respawns happen? Anywhere in the world!

Thanks for any input :)

Awesome guide, but the last part relative to Cataclysm could be done by another easier way.
Two key items are to realize that in Twilight Highlands there are schools for Highland Guppy inland, and for Algaefin Rockfish coastal. By the time you reach this level, you will surely have "find fish" to help locate such pools if needed, but even if not they are not hard to find. Pools are awesome as there is NO trash, etc. - only the target fish is caught.
The significance of this is that when you reach 475 Cooking with Striped Lurker cooking, you can then make it to 500 with only Highland Guppy; no need for random fishing, just use the inland Guppy pools if needed - they are concentrated at Loch Verrall. The minute you hit 500 Cooking this way, STOP and proceed directly to coastal areas, and catch ONLY Algaefin Rockfish in the pools there. This method will very rapidly move you from 500 to 520 or so, when the Rockfish recipe goes Green; still relatively easy to finish to 525.

A key difference in recipes is that with this method the Baked Rockfish becomes mandatory, and the Sagefish ones optional as you would have no need for the latter.

Happy fishing!

I fished my Sea Turtle from Howling Fjord. The day prior to that I had fished the Dark Herring up for The One That Didn't Get Away in the exact same location. I started at Cauldros Island to the north of Utgarde Keep and worked my way up the mountain streams leading to the lake in the North-West (which isn't Caldemere Lake), fishing all Fangtooth Herring schools on the way. Running up and down all the streams leading the lake, I noticed that the risk of getting attacked by enemy creatures was very minimal. The pools spawn often enough in the streams and lake, so theres no need to move to other parts of Howling Fjord. On both days I fished for just over an hour with a total fishing skill of 608 (450+100+40+18).
Common knowledge maybe, but I think this is probably the safest and fastest way to fish for both achievements for level 70 or lower characters.

This is actually very handy, and a good record to show new anglers (and handy for us older, more forgetful types like me) :)

Mightfish - I wonder only one thing - the links above appear to take me to the same map that is the entire continent of Northrend, and this map is populated with fishing pools where they spawn in each zone.
