Dark Iron at least is mass ganking for practically any level under 70.

There's a bit of a repreive at 60-61, where I think the higher levels don't waste their time on you (not worth the honor) and you are still hard enough to kill it takes away from the fishing time.

The worst folks are 70 and there with a 19 twink, either they are dual boxing or for a friend. They seem to slaughter more then those 70's with body guards. Most body guards only react if you fish consistently near the person. I've found its best to not mess with them, and let them have their holes they are staying near.

Occasionally, you see a guild come and own the event. they wipe out the other faction, and have people fish in same side faction holes to eliminate competion.

Cheers,

People do it on PvP servers only when they have bodyguards with them.

The main reason would be that, while they're killing the competition, they won't be fishing themselves. It's impossible to get rid of all the competition at the same time (unless you recruit an entire guild to kill everyone on the beach but that would only eliminate one faction), so you're better just fishing.

I'm on an old highpop PVP server and my experiences are that there are next to no ganking or PVP going on while the contest lasts.
Might be a biased opinion since I rarely see any ally faction when doing it.

There is PVP action in STV but no bloodbath at the beach where we fish.

Even on PvE servers it's a problem, seems everyone on the opposite faction has a hunter guard that abuses the Snake Trap exploit.

I just won the contest for a third time on my low-pop PVP server, and I will admit that it does help to have somebody guarding you and/or scouting for pools/players. I don't think it's necessary to gank other fishers or do things like jump on your faction's bobbers, although you'll find that some people will do that.

If you're not trying to win and are only interested in the rare fish, I highly recommend showing up 20 minutes late. After a winner has been announced, the majority of the fishers and gankers leave.

Okay, so a buddy in my guild and I are fishing nuts (he's been doing it forever, i just found fishing and love it). Neither of us have done the Extravaganza though. We're on a PVP server, and I wondered about personal experiences by folks on PVP servers competing for the contest. Do a lot of griefers come your way? Would it be worth mobilizing the rest of the guild to crush/harry/annoy the rest of STV while we fish like mad? Has anyone found increased success by having your friends mess with others (both PVP killing and even... gasp... annyoning competitors from the same faction)? Or am I a bad person for thinking of that in the first place? It just enters my mind b/c I'm our guild's "fun events" organizer (planning raids of odd places, locating unusual spots for guild photos, etc.), and could certainly get 15 roaming loons to help bother the competition.

Once I get my fishing skill up a bit, going to start trying the extravaganza in earnest. And thought some more insight/discussion about the PVP element to the contest would be helpful.

Cheers mates.
