I caught the Blacktip Shark and was FIRST!

:D

Long story short, had a good friend at Dalaran on constant summon/cancel and me fishing in the Frozen Sea. 10 minutes in, I hit the Blacktip Shark and I even EXPECTED it at around 10 minutes. Yelled "I got it I got it go go go!" in vent and there was a port 2 seconds later.

Boom. Winner!! :D I am sooo happy! Now my next hunt is for the Dark Herring. :D

edit: I caught 24 Deep Sea Monsterbelly, 1 Crystallized Water, 2 Crates and 1 Blacktip Shark. There were 17 Pygmy Suckerfish in total.

There are a lot of posts about this on offical wow-forums so i thought i'd make one here too.

A lot of people want the STV-achievement deleted from the Salty-title because its totally not what fishing is all about. And they are totally right in my opinion
And no, i'm not lazy. I have caught Ironjaw, Crafty, Mr Pinchy twice and doing the [The One That Didn't Get Away] now.

But the thing is: 52 sundays a year, let's say about 40 times that you can actually join and about 50-100 people joining every week (on my server).
That means if you join every week you should win after about 2 years and all fishers that caught one or more rare fish know that you can be lucky which can make you win in one try or very unlucky which could make you fish for 4 years without ever wining.
Other people have to work on sunday-afternoons and can never win the Salty title, and dont give me that shit: 'yea but people that want raid-achievements have to be online on raid-times too' because if you dont like the raiding-hours of your guild, just join another one that has good times.
And NO (again) the problem is NOT that these people dont want to use a lot of time for the achievements.

All other fishing achievements can be done by just fishing alot and in prolly a month (thats a long time) you can catch all the other rare fish(wotlk not included, dont know the catch rates).

My idea's are:
Make the Stv-tournament happen more then once per week, because its just silly that it's only on one hour and only 52 times per year.

or

Delete the stv-tournament from the Salty-title and make a seperate title like: Master Angler, or something.

If people say that it's too easy now: add Crafty, Ironjaw, Giant Rat.

No, i didn't win the tournament yet.

Please, tell me your opinion about this.

Ps: all the threads on official forums have been totally ignored, just as my gm post about it.

Hello!

I finally managed to win the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza after a few weeks of trying. I gave it a few tries last year but never really tried my best.

My server is quite heavily populated by Horde and so I didn't have to worry about being ganked or anything like that.

I had a friend who helped me by interupting Alliance players, ganking them, fake-casting in pools close to mine, but best of all: BLOCK THE BOPPERS!

I started just outside Booty Bay on the western coast and my friend first scared away some alliance and blocked casts for the Horde players. As it went on my friend travelled alone over the the eastern side and kept blocking casts with his Travellers Tundra Mammoth, this is extremely effective and people started running away to different areas, which gave ME a lot of time to catch more Tastyfish.

The contest started out at 13:58 server time and I was finished at 14:13 and used Hearthstone back to Booty Bay. No one ever casted in my pools and I wouldn't have made it without my friend.

So a few tips for you to ALMOST guarantee victory:

* Have 1 or more friends with you to gank players of the opposing faction or just interupt casts, and most importantly, have them block the fishing boppers by standing with their mount in the fishing pools for other people. This is extremely effective!

Best wishes!

Well, thanks to the tips in El's Extreme Anglin', combined with data found in the great Book of Thott, mixed with a whole lot of luck, I just became Salty.

I caught my first fish on October 16th, and tonight, November 11th, 26 days later, I just completed the One That Didn't Get Away achievement to get the title.

And now that I've used up all of my luck on getting this title (that's how it works, right?), I'm off to try completing the rest of the achievements. The only other major one I've finished is the Sea Turtle. I see many hours ahead of staring at that damned bobber.

Hello everyone. I have been reading on this website for many months, I think I remember it since Burning Crusade, but I never had the chance to say THANKYOU back.
So .. Thankyou for all the useful and for all the help. Ment alot to me.

I want to tell you a bit about my fishing experience.

I started like everyone else ... in burning crusade , had max skill, and I was doing fishing daily every day. I managed to raise since then a guildtab full of Elixir of Water Walking and those +100 fishing hooks. I was saving them for Sunday fishing Contests and I tried that every single week-end. I must say that I am sure I didn't miss more than 2 - 3 contests in 2 years.

When achievements and eventualy WOTLK came out, I started to do them, but didn't pay much attention to fishing. Did the daily every day, got all the rewards possible - both fishing poles, the pet, different gems (agil and stamina), the fishing hat.

I am a mount collector , and that is the most important thing for me in game. I am atm at 126 mounts ... and going up. So when the sea turtle was introduced ... I fished for hours and hours to get it without success. A few days later I convinced my wife to fish in Borean Tundra for me (to catch the turtle) - and I agreed to cook dinner. And she got it in 10 minutes !

My old guild disbanded on Hellfire, so I applied to a guild on Ghostlands. After I trasnferred I was standing on the bench (I was IN-raid but I wasn't in) ... well trial times. To kill time while I was waiting for a spot ... I started to fish, because I couldn't do daily quests while in a raid.

As you can see maybe if you check my achievements on armory ... I got Old crafty, Old Ironjaw AND Giant Sewers rat in the same day. Well ... actually I got them all in 20 minutes. It was weard, because I tried so much to get them on my old realm, and after I transfered I got all 3 - in 5 casts each, on the same evening, in 20 minutes. I am not sure if the transfer had anything to do with it ... but it is really weard.

Finally yesterday - I took advantage of the situation and WON Booty Bay fishing contest. And this is another tip for everyone that wants to do this : USE social real - life events in your advantage. For example : yesterday was Formula 1 and the finals World Footbal Championship. People were away. on a /who stranglethorn ... got about 20 - 30 people alliance side , and there are usually over 100 .

I was still in shock after I won. Took me a while to recover.

Anyway, I started on my last achievement ... I am sure everyone knows wich one :)
One THat Didn't Get Away.

I started right after Booty Bay contest, and since raid in the evening was canceled due to Footbal Finals ... I had time to fish all day.

 I started with azhara - got about 1000 - 1200 fish there.
Gave up - continued with Goldshire lake - got about 1000 - 1500 fish there (full bags)
Gave up - read this forum - moved to Theldrasil in Lake Al'Ameth - got about 500 - 700 fish there
Gave up - moved to Howling Fjord - fished ONLY in schools - got about 600 - 700 fish.

 NO RARE.

It shit blizzard's way to make me suffer for the other rare fish I got in 20 minutes ? I am going insane. Fished yesterday 12 hours no breaks, and today I brought my laptop at work ,planning to fish all day. but I forgot my damn authenticator at home !!!

:(

Anyway ... this is the last achievement for salty, and last possible from the list.

I will keep an eye on this website, and I must say - great work. Thanks all again, and I hope I didn't bore you to death with my story.

Just the other night, I finally completed all the requirements to be Salty and received my title. It took a lot of forum scouring and a lot of reading to gather the right information, so I figured I'd post a short log of all that I did and how I did it, to help others on their way.

Of course, I would attribute almost all of my success to El, whose site is just the definitive source of fishing information for WoW players, bar none. Thanks El!

I'll go through the achievements briefly, one at a time, and tell how I finished them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Northrend Angler - Fish 10 nodes in Northrend

(copied from Thottbot, credit to kitkibbles)

*Fangtooth Herring* - fresh waters in Howling Fjord

*Musselback Sculpin* fresh water in Borean Tundra (I got mine in Lake Hum'uya located directly south east of Amber ledge).

*Borean Man O' War* Off the coast in Borean Tundra (I got mine at the shrine of scales located just off the southwest coast of riplash strand).

*Imperial Manta Ray* off the coast in Borean Tundra (I got mine at riplash strand but there are tons in dragonblight at Moa'ki Harbor as well).

*Nettlefish* freshwater in Sholazar Basin... these fish are like fleas and can be found in all lakes and rivers there. I got mine in the seabreach flow just east of nesingwary base camp.

*Dragonfin Angelfish* Lake Indu'le just north of moa'ki harbor in dragonblight. I didn't see them anywhere else but they could be in other freshwater locations too of course.

*Glassfin Minnow* freshwater in crystalsong forest. They were everywhere in the river that runs through the area.

*Glacial Salmon* freshwater in Grizzly Hills. I got mine in the river located just south of Zeb'halak.

*Deep Sea Monsterbelly* salt water off the icebergs south of Unu'pe in the frozen sea, Borean tundra.

*Moonglow Cuttlefish* salt water off the icebergs south of Unu'pe in the frozen sea, Borean tundra.

----------------------------------------------

Master Angler of Stranglethorn

Ah, the dreaded fishing contest. This was my last achievement for Salty. I won after 2 serious attempts. This is exactly what I did-

- Hearthstone to Booty Bay Inn
- I fished the area directly south of Grom'gol. There is a water fall which separates the land. I started on the side furthest from Grom'gol. I fished exclusively in the first 6 nodes and only the first 6 nodes. When there were no nodes (which only happened once) I sat and waited for them to reappear.
- I used water walking potions to fish the nodes which were across the waterfall break in the coast.
- I caught 7 Oily Blackmouths, 1 Stranglekelp and 1 Firefin and still won the competition.
- I won in exactly 20 minutes and 41 seconds.
- The area only had 3-5 other fishermen when I was there. When there were 2 people at a node, I'd skip it and move to the next node, always staying between my 6 designated nodes. If there was not a fishing node with less than 2 people, I would run back and forth waiting for the next one to spawn.
- I used a macro to track the amount of Tastyfish I had. It was this...

#showtooltip Speckled Tastyfish

- The first time I tried, I caught 9 Oily Blackmouths and was quite angry at Blizzard for implementing a RNG in an already very luck driven competition. I lost at 19m 55s, with 31 fish. :)
------------------------------

The One That Didn't Get Away

- I fished in Thunderbull Lake in Mulgore for the 15 pound Mudfish. It took me 1310 casts. I thought about going for the Herring, but it seemed like a hassle, because I wasn't sure if it dropped only from the Herring nodes or from the actual open sea.
- I parked myself in front of the TV at home, picked out three good movies, and started fishing.
- I set my cast to hotkey 1.
- I would press 1, place the mouse icon over the bobber, then proceed to watch my show. With the sound turned up, and no one else fishing, I could just reach down instinctively and right-click to pick up the fish. I would then repeat the process.
- I had Auto-Loot on and didn't worry about casting too fast, because the 15 pound mudfish is NOT BoP, so it does not require you to accept it.

-------------------------------

Mr. Pinchy

- I do the daily fishing quest in Terrokar anyway, so whenever I would do that, I would empty out all the Highland Mixed Schools in the area. This means the lake by the alliance town, the lake by the horde town, and the bigger lake up in Skettis. 3-5 nodes in both the Horde and Alliance rivers, and 7-10 in the Skettis area.
- They spawn rather slow, so after cleaning out the nodes I would find something else to do for 2 hours then come back.
- I caught Mr. Pinchy the first time in just 31 casts (very luck, I know). But this resulted in 2 Benevolent Mr. Pinchys and 1 Pinchy Blessing, so I had to do it again.
- I caught him again after about 600 casts. The first prize was a gift-box, and the second was the pet.
- I made sure that I paid attention while fishing, because he is BoP, so you need to click accept.

---------------------------------

I smell a Giant Rat

- In the underbelly of the sewer, on the pier next to the Inn, is where I fished for this guy.
- It took me about 1000 casts.
- He is BoP too, so watch out and don't go too fast.
- My best advice for not burning yourself out on fishing is to start chatting in /1 or /2 or in /g.

---------------------------------

Deadliest Catch

- I solo'd this as a 74 Frost Mage.
- First, you need to be in a raid group, so have a friend or stranger group with you, start a raid group, then head in on your own.
- Advise the person you are grouped with that he or she will be unable to complete any non-raid quests while you are doing this. (Took us forever to figure out why my girlfriend could not pick up mushrooms for the cooking daily in Dalaran hehe)
- You must enter ZG twice- First to pick up the jugs of ale which are at Nat Pagle's fishing site on the north side of the big lake which Hakkar is in the middle of.
- Then you must take them to Nat Pagle in Dustwallow Marsh and he'll give you what you need to fish up this guy.
- Then you need to fish the mudskunk nodes which are in the exact same place in ZG. (I fished the mudskunks the first time I went so I could just go straight to the boss the second time)
- Once you have the mudskunks and the lure from Nat Pagle, you can go to Nat Pagle's fishing site in ZG and fish up the boss and get the achievement.
- Fishing up the boss is all you need to do. No need to try to solo him ;)
- Once I fished him up, I Invisibilitied and ran out. Done.

----------------------------------------

The Scavenger

(credit to jamras on thottbot)

Steam Pump Flotsam: Zangarmarsh, all over the lakes
Schooner Wreckage: Southshore, near dock and along coast line
Floating Wreckage: Tanaris, coast
Bloodsail Wreckage: STV, coast south of Grom'Gol
Waterlogged Wreckage: STV, Lake Nazferiti and along river

----------------------------------------

The Coin Master

This is accomplished by fishing the entire collection of coins out of the tiny fountain in Dalaran.

- Copper is the easiest to catch, Silver second and Gold hardest.
- Only Gold coins can be thrown back into the pool to increase your chances of getting more coins.
- The buff from tossing gold coins lasts only 2 minutes, which seems to go by VERY quickly. Make sure you don't mis-click or go afk while you have the buff.
- I finished Silver before Copper, then Gold last. The last Gold coin I needed was Thrall's.
- There is a fishing vendor right next to the fountain who has lures for you to use.
- You CAN fish the same coin out of the fountain more than once. In fact, I had a stack of about 10 Danath's copper coin when I was done. I sold the dupes to the vendor.
- I had many instances of "Your cast didn't land in fishable water".
- It took approximately 500 casts to acquire the whole collection. This can obviously be reduced or increased by the random number generator, but you can help yourself by using Gold Coins effectively.

-----------------------------------------

Outland Angler

Not much to tell here, it's pretty easy.

(credit to rozlyn on Thottbot)

Brackish Mixed School - Terokkar and Zangarmarsh
Bluefish School - Nagrand
Mudfish School - Nagrand
School of Darter - Terokkar Forest
Highland Mixed School - Skettis
Sporefish School - Zangarmarsh

----------------------------------------

Old Man Barlowned

Very simple-

There is a daily fishing quest in Terrokar. Each day the fishing quest is randomly chooses one of five fishing quests for you to do. Keep doing this quest every day and eventually you will get all 5.

-----------------------------------------

The Lurker Above

Fish up the Lurker Below in Serpentshrine Cavern

- This is definitely soloable.
- I followed this guide:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2GPZwpkwPg

Credit to TheZemalf (YouTube)

----------------------------------------

Catch 1000 Fish

- Pretty straight forward.
- With the time you'll spend fishing for coins, the rat and The one that didn't get away, you will MORE than hit this. (It took me about 7500 fish to finish the achievement panel for fishing)
- Don't go out of your way to accomplish this, just let it happen on it's own while doing other achievements.

-----------------------------------------

The Old Gnome in the Sea

- Another fishing achievement which will come automatically by doing other achievements.

-----------------------------------------

Fish Don't Leave Footprints

Acquire the Fish Tracking ability

- By fishing out of "wreckage" nodes, you will often get boxes of level relevant profession loot. (Light Leather, Bolts of Mageweave, etc.)
- In these boxes there is a small chance to get the book which teaches you this ability.
- Run along the western coast of Stranglethorn Vale and you should at least find one or two wreckage nodes. Fish these until you get crates.
- Wreckage nodes are easy to spot, because they're not your normal, swirling water nodes. They actually have boxes and pieces of lumber floating in them.

--------------------------------------

And that's how I got to Salty :)

I hope this has been helpful in answering some of those ambiguous questions one runs into after forum crawling for the easiest way to finish an achievement.

On a side note-

I did Old Ironjaw and Old Crafty as well.

- Old Craft was very easy. Simply get the Baby Crocolisk quest and go to Orgrimmar. When the loot box comes up, ignore it and keep fishing. After a dozen or so casts, you'll get Old Crafty.

- Old Ironjaw was the hardest fishing achievement I've done, to date. I play Horde, so I had to hide out in the Forlorn Cavern for 4000 casts. I got attacked and camped at least a dozen times. If you are Horde and you are going for Old Ironjaw, I'll give you these pointers:

Do not wear any items with Durability. Rings and Trinkets and Necklaces are okay, but don't destroy your armor by getting killed a bunch of times.

First, go to the back of the Forlorn Cavern. If you get attacked, move to the Lava in the middle of Ironforge (just behind the northernmost cog on the bridge in the exact middle of IF). You'll get attacked in both places, but at least you can escape some camping.

Do NOT fight back. This will only aggravate the Alliance more, and they'll end up camping your body. You are much less fun to antagonize if all you do is stand still and die. Plus, if you attack any NPCs, there will be a yellow message broadcast to all of Ironforge alerting them to your presence, so don't rock the boat.

It helps to fish during off hours (early morning and midday).

Make SURE you watch your screen and don't habituate yourself to casting over and over. Old Ironjaw is BoP, so you MUST accept him once the window pops up, and you don't want to have to do another 5000 casts because you were fishing too fast.

Sorry to those thinking you were going to finish an already hard achievement, but it just got HARDER to get your title, NOT easier.

Think about for a second:
"Elder Clearwater sits in Dalaran for one hour awaiting the return of the quickest, most experienced fisher to bring him the first catch of the night."

Dalaran - the most populated overvisited city in ALL of Azeroth.

"Don't forget, in patch 3.3.0 you never catch trash from fishing pools, regardless of skill."

EVERYONE will see this tourney announcement, and EVERYONE can win it, regardless of skill. The award for doing so, a BOA +5% exp Heirloom item. What is there to stop EVERYONE from trying to win this, regardless of a meta-achievement? The Northrend tournament just got FULL folks. How many alt-playing people have you come across in your time? These people will flood the tournament with no regard for how hard the title is to get, and with little or no consideration for the meta-achievement, just to win the ring for their alts.

There will not be 104 Salty's a year now, for awhile it probably won't go much higher then 52. At least the STV tournament is out of the way, and limits the competition by fishing skill.

nonameform on "Fishing in WotLK"

Looking back at how fishing skill had serious impact on your chance to catch something, I question why Blizzard has included BoP one hour lures that grant you +100 skill (Glow Worm). Sure they might be very useful for leveling your fishing, but when you're at 450 skill you might as well want to vendor them. At least I did so with some of my lures, but then I decided to save them, in case Blizzard makes them normal lures some time in the future and I will be able to sell them at AH/transfer them to my alts.

In vanilla WoW days you had to have maximum fishing skill and had to use best fishing gear and lures available, so you could fish in Bay of Storms for money. In TBC you had to be well geared too to be able to catch fishes in Terokkar's lakes. Now in WotLK you need a maximum skill and a 75 lure to be able to catch all fishes you need for Fish Feast. Zones that require you to have more than 525 skill don't actually provide better fishes. How many of you actually made more than one Gigantic Feast?

I only need to win STV Extravaganza now for my title (got as close as 39 fishes so far) and I'm wondering what I will do after that. Sure it might be fun for some people to win the contest twice for both the trinket and the pole, but I don't feel like doing it twice and making it harder for other people to get the title. Compared to the Undying title I have, Salty requires much more work and patience, as losing the contest several weeks in a row when you thought that you are about to win it, is really sad. Well, at least I can spend the rest of the contest time to fish for money and possible rare catches (got only one High Test Eternium Fishing Line so far, so saving it for an Arcanite Fishing Pole I hope to win someday).

Overall fishing in WotLK seems uninteresting. Yes, I can make money by selling Fish Feast, as I have about 1k+ Northern Spices on my main char, but I want some excitement from the profession. I got all possible achievements, except for the one mentioned above and I want more. Maybe some really hard stuff like catching all those fishes, that got away. That would keep me busy for some time or catching 100k fishes, which isn't hard, but sure takes more time to get, than 1k for the title. I still have to see fishing rings and some of the rarer TBC fishing drops, such as crocs (make it an achievement too, come on), but all in all every time I think about fishing in WotLK, I get excited and then in a second I tell myself "Wait, there is nothing interesting to do actually."

I'm not an angler, just a fisherman, a sissy by someone's standards as I didn't bother to level my fishing skill to maximum until WotLK arrived, but after that it became a way to pass time in game without mindless killing or farming reputation or whatever.

Celwinde on "My Strategy for Winning"

I won the Tournament last week and I wanted to share with others my strategy for winning.

First off, my husband and I both wanted to win this contest because we both wanted the "Salty" title. So we took turns competing. One Sunday, I'd fish while he ran around looking for pools, keeping the opposite faction off my back, and fishing in other peoples' pools if they were close by. The next Sunday, he'd fish while I ran around doing what he'd done the previous Sunday.

My husband won the tournament on Mother's Day. Everyone figures he won because it was a holiday and everyone was spending time with their family, but I'm sure we still had a lot of competition. I don't think winning it on a holiday makes it any less of a feat than winning it on any other day. You still have to beat everyone that's competing back to the quest giver.

After he won, I was able to compete in the tournament every Sunday and he'd run around scouting for pools and keeping the opposite faction off my back while I fished. Two weeks after he won, I won! It was a very busy Sunday for STV, or so it seemed since I had at least five other people fishing on Yojamba Isle with me when we normally just had one or two. This just goes to show you can fish in a busy location and still win.

Remember that everyone else is fishing near other people, too. There are no "hidden locations" in STV for fishing in this tournament. You want to find the area that has the fewest number of people to pools that you can. Remember it's the number of people to pool that is important, not just the number of people. If you are fishing in an area with 10 people and 20 pools, that's 2 pools per competitor, and you'll be better off there than you would be in an area where three people are fishing, but only two pools spawn.

Our chosen location every Sunday was Yojamba Isle and the beach just north of there. We had a nice circular route that we'd follow. There are usually few people fishing in this spot and little to no one from the opposite faction. We found that more often than not, people would start on Yojamba Isle, but they'd then follow the beach south to Grom'Gol Base Camp and Booty Bay rather than double back for respawned pools. So after the first 3-4 minutes, we usually had Yojamba Isle to ourselves.

The biggest key things to our strategy was 1) having someone scout ahead for the next pool so the one competing knew right where to go next, and 2) because of our watery location, Elixirs of Water Walking! These made it much easier to get around and enabled us to reach pools north of Yojamba Isle before other people. I always brought a stack of 20 with me every Sunday, but I usually only used 2-3 of them.

Good luck!

Anyone care to comment on this subject or provide some useful statistics? I've been reading lots about this particular fish from a number of different sites and its hard to decipher if there is a clear advantage to Fangtooth herring pools vs. casting in open water (in Howling Fjord).

After about 2200 casts, both in pools and open water (mostly in open water) I'm beginning to wonder if it's pure luck that I see many posts claiming to catch a Dark Herring in a pool rather quickly, or if there is more too it and the chances of catching one is better in the pools than just casting in open water.

Thanks for any info.

Pre WOTLK, i played a warlock, and basically completed every fishing achievement, got every rare item, and had total maxxed out fishing.

I rerolled death knight for wrath of the lich king, and basically i've been avoiding fishing for months, because the thought of going for those rare drops, mr. pinchy, trying the fishing contest again, it was just too daunting for me, I couldn't bear the thought of going through it all again. I trained fishing in december after levelling, and fished up old crafty in orgrimaar by using the crocolisk in the city quest trick, but apart from that i hadn't even picked up my rod.

This sunday - i had nothing to do, so i took a deep breath, and thought to myself - i'll make a start. I started fishing in ironforge trying for old ironjaw - got 200 fishing and nothing. Looked at the time and saw it was an hour till the fishing competition - and thought to myself - i may as well go and see if i can get myself some boots or a hat.

I got to stranglethorn vale, and had a quick look for a pool of junk to get the find fish book since it makes it easier - found one, got the book, set my hearthstone in booty bay and got started. I have NEVER been so lucky with tastyfish schools. As the contest started, i had 4 pools around me right at the start, every catch was a tastyfish, and within 20 minutes, i had my 40 fish, hearthstoned, and won the competition with 215 fishing.

Now - i was pretty happy at this point, having completed what i thought would be the toughest hurdle on my first attempt. I went to nat pagle, took and completed the artisan fishing quest, and then went back to ironforge expecting to max out fishing while getting ironjaw. 10 casts later - ironjaw was in my inventory.

Realising there wasn't much more I could do, i went and levelled fishing a little bit in stormwind, to see if i could get a 1 ring. This was the only point that I was unlucky - i got to 315 fishing, no ring. But i wasn't that bothered - there was no related achievement so it didn't really matter.

I went to bed on sunday happy, not much more to say than that.

Monday night i was busy with my guild in Naxxramas, finally got 'The undying' title in naxxramas and my new 310% speed mount. Didn't really have time to do any fishing, but i decided that since i had tuesday free i would try to do some more constructive fishing.

Tuesday - I started dalaran coin fishing. With 315 fishing. I had to go down into underbelly and get underbelly elixirs quite regularly, which was a royal pain. I probably spent 3 hours in total, but by 1am i had every single coin - i got the three achievements in a row, didn't even have to wait long for my last gold coin.

Wednesday morning - I decided to go and fish some highland schools in the morning before work. Third pool i fished in - first cast - was a Mr. Pinchy. First use gave me a magical crawdad pet. I went to work happy, and when i came home from work - I decided to try for 'The one that didn't get away', it being the only hard fishing achievement i had left.

I spent maybe, 20 minutes in total fishing in pools of herring before i got the dark herring - at this point i was in utter disbelief. I spent the rest of the night cleaning up all the easy fishing achievements, and now i'm just missing one daily quest for Old Man barlowned before i get my salty title. I managed to catch up with my old fishing main in just 4 days of fishing, with minimal effort.

Has anyone else ever been incredibly lucky like this? I just had to share it because i'm honestly still in disbelief. Here's my armory, you can check the date of the achievements: http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-achievements.xml?r=Jaedenar&n=Zimm

First of all, thank you for providing the most informative site on WoW fishing. I've been using it since I bought my first pole in Stormwind.

Second, I just recently decided to try to attain the "Salty" title. As you all well know, this is a task that takes severe dedication and a bit of luck. So I decided to make a blog detailing how it works out for me. I started with a few of the easy achievements already under my belt, and a good bit of progress on one or two of the more time consuming achievements - I'm two gold coins shy of Coinmaster, and I have Old Crafty in my bag (not caught by the Baby Crocolisk bug method).

Anyway, if you're interested, I'll keep it updated, and post my data here that I've collected with Fishing Buddy.

The blogsite is: http://saltybals.blogspot.com/

LOL! This title would just be too perfect for me. Feel free to post comments, copy\paste, add data to whatever DB you have going, etc. It's all free public info for all to use and benefit from, for what it's worth. I hope nobody minds if I quote from here from time to time. If there's an issue with that, let me know and I'll cut it out.

Cheers, and thanks again for the best collection of WoW fishing information available.

Hi!

I just recently found this site after seeing it many times over the years in comments on wowhead and allahkazam. I must admit I'm impressed, I was not expecting a bunch of number crunchers and theorycrafters.

I've been steadily working on my fishing achievements and my salty title (cant wait :P)

I attempted the Extravaganza today for the third time in two years and actually won! Got my fishing pole and debating about going again next week for the trinket. This win got me 2 achievements away from my salty title.

Best advice I can give anyone for the extravaganza is don't play nice and dont be greedy! If you find yourself at a pool with others joining you, leave asap. If you get a chance to snake the last fish from a pool do so. There was a point where I had four other people joining the pool I was at and I mounted after the first cast, which happened to be the last.

Just a few hours ago I got my 15 pound mud snapper from Eversong Woods outside the gates to SMC on my 2nd cast (note: this was after the 1000+ casts in stonebull lake) thus leaving me one achievement away from salty.

I am really dreading trying to find the mr. pinchy pet, but he cant be that bad seeing as it took a friend of mine ~5 pinchys to get the lil bugger.
