I usually try to fish around the Wild Shore on the east coast of the tip of STV, using an Azure Silk Belt to swim faster, as there are a few pool spawn points out around the islands, with little competition. A new minor "glyph of blurred speed" gives rogues water walking while sprint is active. With various items, glyphs, and talents, you can get a rogue with a 1 minute sprint cooldown, 18 second sprint, and 3 minute Preparation cooldown, so my rogue could run 36 seconds at 170% speed with water walking.

This poll is now closed, but please continue discussion.

View final results: Only 9% of El's readers have won the contest. There can only be one winner of the contest each week, so it isn't surprising that relatively few have won. Still, it shows just what a small proportion of anglers will have access to the best fishing pole.

Just wanna say thanks El for your guide. I figured I should finally give this a go and read over your guide for the STV contest prior to jumping into it and I'm glad I did!!

I managed to pull in the victory around 22 - 23 minutes. Thanks for your guidance it is much appreciated!!

Hello fellow anglers and worm afficianados! Reporting to you live from Booty Bay in the fishing mecca of Stranglethorn Vale, I'm Darven Jenkins your angling reporter.

We had a wonderful tournament here yesterday on February 17th in which the winner checked in at an incredible 23 minutes after the start bell! You do the math on that, HAHA! Our winner was lucky fisherman Monkeyslayer, a proud member of the Sorcery and Steel guild. Monkeyslayer is a level 70 human rouge, and this was his first win ever. As with most first time winners, he choose the Arcanite Fishing Pole as his prize. I spoke with Monkeyslayer and asked him about his fishing skills, and here's the run-down...

Skill - 375 fishing skill
Tackle - Big Iron Fishing Rod
Previous tournament attempts - 8-12 times

Monkeyslayer said that he had previously caught the rare Angelfish and was wearing his Lucky Fishing Hat during his win. Monkeyslayer also told me that he applied a lure at the start of the tournament but did not re-apply once the lures time had ran out.

Congratulations to Monkeyslayer and his first ever win in the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. We want to thank El's Extreme Angling for their continued contributions to the fishing community and we'll see you next week! This is Darven from The Highest Order saying "So long, I'm going to wet a hook."

The repeatable quest "Apprentice Angler" will give you 23 silver for each batch of 5 Speckled Tastyfish (I've read several reports that this has been changed - to 1 gold, or 1g 23s, or down to 19s)

The reward was changed in 2.3.0, and varies by character level:
70: 1G 12s
68: 1G
