Last Sunday and This Sunday/Saturday, I tried the STV competition for the first time, altogether twice, and the Derby once, for the first time. This is on a Normal server, and I am an Undead Frost DK with Find Fish, +5 Fishing Boots and a +5 Rod.

Last Sunday, I started in the northern STV area and stayed around that area, catching 24 Tastyfish before the inevitable announcement of the Master Angler took place. I was discouraged, but knew that I would get better. I blamed it on the poor aim of the Lure.

This Saturday, I tried the Fishing Derby. I started in the Heart of the River in Sholazar Basin, and met with a Blood Elf. We half-grouped together, she buffed me with battle buffs and I buffed her with Path of Frost. Kind of an unfair trade considering the battle buffs will help me in no way, but whatever. Anyways, I see a pair of people come along, one of them a dwarf. The dwarf fishes the pools I am at, and I think, 'Damn douchebag.' But hey, it's a competition and I can't really blame him. The contest begins, and there are no pools to fish so I fly up the river(s) quickly and within the first 10 minutes the winner is announced, I have only fished about 3 or 4 pools and caught about 8 Pygmy Suckerfish. I am discouraged.

Today (Sunday), I tried the competition again with a better feeling of winning, as I am in a good spot and I see no people around the pool. I spot a few people coming in with mounts and there is a Night Elf slightly above the area that I was planning on heading. How dare him! >:[ So the contest begins and suddenly the pools disappear, I wasn't sure if they disappeared or not but soon enough I found more pools. There are just WAY. TOO. MANY. PEOPLE. FISHING. I mean god, there are always at the least 1 person fishing at a pool, only twice in the contest I found a lone pool. Again the Master Angler is announced, with the same unlucky number as the last one, twenty-four tastyfish.

That is where YOU come in! You tell me about all your tips and tricks, lend me a hand, and I could within the next 6 weeks win the STV Fishing Extravaganza (Or the Fishing Derby, really want that Arcanite Rod though)! I hope I do win within the next 6 weeks at least, since Booty Bay is getting screwed I don't think the contest will exist anymore and there goes my chance to get the best fishing rod EVAR (as of now). I already know all the tips listed on the STV Contest Strategy page.

I won the Tournament last week and I wanted to share with others my strategy for winning.

First off, my husband and I both wanted to win this contest because we both wanted the "Salty" title. So we took turns competing. One Sunday, I'd fish while he ran around looking for pools, keeping the opposite faction off my back, and fishing in other peoples' pools if they were close by. The next Sunday, he'd fish while I ran around doing what he'd done the previous Sunday.

My husband won the tournament on Mother's Day. Everyone figures he won because it was a holiday and everyone was spending time with their family, but I'm sure we still had a lot of competition. I don't think winning it on a holiday makes it any less of a feat than winning it on any other day. You still have to beat everyone that's competing back to the quest giver.

After he won, I was able to compete in the tournament every Sunday and he'd run around scouting for pools and keeping the opposite faction off my back while I fished. Two weeks after he won, I won! It was a very busy Sunday for STV, or so it seemed since I had at least five other people fishing on Yojamba Isle with me when we normally just had one or two. This just goes to show you can fish in a busy location and still win.

Remember that everyone else is fishing near other people, too. There are no "hidden locations" in STV for fishing in this tournament. You want to find the area that has the fewest number of people to pools that you can. Remember it's the number of people to pool that is important, not just the number of people. If you are fishing in an area with 10 people and 20 pools, that's 2 pools per competitor, and you'll be better off there than you would be in an area where three people are fishing, but only two pools spawn.

Our chosen location every Sunday was Yojamba Isle and the beach just north of there. We had a nice circular route that we'd follow. There are usually few people fishing in this spot and little to no one from the opposite faction. We found that more often than not, people would start on Yojamba Isle, but they'd then follow the beach south to Grom'Gol Base Camp and Booty Bay rather than double back for respawned pools. So after the first 3-4 minutes, we usually had Yojamba Isle to ourselves.

The biggest key things to our strategy was 1) having someone scout ahead for the next pool so the one competing knew right where to go next, and 2) because of our watery location, Elixirs of Water Walking! These made it much easier to get around and enabled us to reach pools north of Yojamba Isle before other people. I always brought a stack of 20 with me every Sunday, but I usually only used 2-3 of them.

Good luck!

I was fishing the Booty Bay coast and had several instances with both Oilyblackmouth and Firefin pools in the same place. The minimap labeled the @ as both. In one case there were two Firefin pools in the same spot.

Is this new or have I not noticed it before? It sure is nice. Gives more fish from one location.
