There are a lot of posts about this on offical wow-forums so i thought i'd make one here too.

A lot of people want the STV-achievement deleted from the Salty-title because its totally not what fishing is all about. And they are totally right in my opinion
And no, i'm not lazy. I have caught Ironjaw, Crafty, Mr Pinchy twice and doing the [The One That Didn't Get Away] now.

But the thing is: 52 sundays a year, let's say about 40 times that you can actually join and about 50-100 people joining every week (on my server).
That means if you join every week you should win after about 2 years and all fishers that caught one or more rare fish know that you can be lucky which can make you win in one try or very unlucky which could make you fish for 4 years without ever wining.
Other people have to work on sunday-afternoons and can never win the Salty title, and dont give me that shit: 'yea but people that want raid-achievements have to be online on raid-times too' because if you dont like the raiding-hours of your guild, just join another one that has good times.
And NO (again) the problem is NOT that these people dont want to use a lot of time for the achievements.

All other fishing achievements can be done by just fishing alot and in prolly a month (thats a long time) you can catch all the other rare fish(wotlk not included, dont know the catch rates).

My idea's are:
Make the Stv-tournament happen more then once per week, because its just silly that it's only on one hour and only 52 times per year.

or

Delete the stv-tournament from the Salty-title and make a seperate title like: Master Angler, or something.

If people say that it's too easy now: add Crafty, Ironjaw, Giant Rat.

No, i didn't win the tournament yet.

Please, tell me your opinion about this.

Ps: all the threads on official forums have been totally ignored, just as my gm post about it.

Over the new year I've added some new features to El's Anglin' (and Professions). Most obvious are the drop down menus (thanks mj for the suggestion) and the ability to comment on (almost) anything.

Just like the Fish Finder, if you tag a forum topic with the title of a page, or use that title as the topic title, a summary of the topic will eventually appear at the bottom of that page. Changes will take up to 10 minutes to transfer from the forum to other pages.

There are a few exceptions (for example, you cannot comment on the front page). If there is a small box at the bottom of the page inviting comments, then feel free to tag/title.

The idea seemed to work reasonably well on the Fish Finder, so I thought I'd expand it to every other page. Precisely what information you get is a bit chaotic, but even the best comment systems (Wowhead is a good example) never quite work perfectly. And tagging forum topics allows the same discussion to appear on several pages, if it covers several topics.

Suggestions/improvements are always welcome. Some take forever, but some get implemented quite quickly.

Just wondering what people would like to see implented in a future patch that would improve fishing or make it more fun.

Personally I would love to see Blizzard come up with a way to customize your fishing. Two good ideas I thought of was, either: being able to customize your cast action instead of everyone having the same cast action, or being able to actually customize your bobber.

I saw one person got all but Saltly and Weekly fishing achievements, under 5 hours...

They need to rework the way fishing works so that ppl who puts in time actually gets the reward, I may just be bitter, but ^%*& I have spend 6 straight hours trying to get the turtle and just to see a person get it in 20 casts..

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to earn/buy a nice 32 slot fishing bag?

My alc/herbalist loves the Emerald Bag. He does herbing much as he does fishing - whenever he has some time and the inclination. It would be nice to be able to fish whenever the notion strikes and not have to fill all the slots in your regular packs with various fishes.

nonameform on "Fishing in WotLK"

Looking back at how fishing skill had serious impact on your chance to catch something, I question why Blizzard has included BoP one hour lures that grant you +100 skill (Glow Worm). Sure they might be very useful for leveling your fishing, but when you're at 450 skill you might as well want to vendor them. At least I did so with some of my lures, but then I decided to save them, in case Blizzard makes them normal lures some time in the future and I will be able to sell them at AH/transfer them to my alts.

In vanilla WoW days you had to have maximum fishing skill and had to use best fishing gear and lures available, so you could fish in Bay of Storms for money. In TBC you had to be well geared too to be able to catch fishes in Terokkar's lakes. Now in WotLK you need a maximum skill and a 75 lure to be able to catch all fishes you need for Fish Feast. Zones that require you to have more than 525 skill don't actually provide better fishes. How many of you actually made more than one Gigantic Feast?

I only need to win STV Extravaganza now for my title (got as close as 39 fishes so far) and I'm wondering what I will do after that. Sure it might be fun for some people to win the contest twice for both the trinket and the pole, but I don't feel like doing it twice and making it harder for other people to get the title. Compared to the Undying title I have, Salty requires much more work and patience, as losing the contest several weeks in a row when you thought that you are about to win it, is really sad. Well, at least I can spend the rest of the contest time to fish for money and possible rare catches (got only one High Test Eternium Fishing Line so far, so saving it for an Arcanite Fishing Pole I hope to win someday).

Overall fishing in WotLK seems uninteresting. Yes, I can make money by selling Fish Feast, as I have about 1k+ Northern Spices on my main char, but I want some excitement from the profession. I got all possible achievements, except for the one mentioned above and I want more. Maybe some really hard stuff like catching all those fishes, that got away. That would keep me busy for some time or catching 100k fishes, which isn't hard, but sure takes more time to get, than 1k for the title. I still have to see fishing rings and some of the rarer TBC fishing drops, such as crocs (make it an achievement too, come on), but all in all every time I think about fishing in WotLK, I get excited and then in a second I tell myself "Wait, there is nothing interesting to do actually."

I'm not an angler, just a fisherman, a sissy by someone's standards as I didn't bother to level my fishing skill to maximum until WotLK arrived, but after that it became a way to pass time in game without mindless killing or farming reputation or whatever.

Lyps on "Achievements and/or Feats of Strength Past 1000 Fish"

It seems kind of silly that there are no achievements and/or feats of strength past the 1000 fish mark. It will likely take mostly people 10k+ casts to get all the current fishing achievements, and even then some people just like to fish for fun and/or money.

Most other achievements that track your progress on an unending count (i.e. honorable kills) max out at much higher levels (100k kills), and it's really cool to still have something to aim for once you've completed all the other achievements related to a specific skill or subarea of the game.

It just seems that 1000 fish is such a silly mark, and since they track your fish caught in the statistics tab anyway, why not implement achievements at the 5k, 10k, 25k, and maybe even 100k mark? Surely some people will hit those numbers over time, so why not give them some recognition for doing so?

Hopefully Blizz is planning to do this already and just hasn't prioritized it since not many people are over the 10k mark yet anyway.

What do you guys think? How many fish (and other things) have you caught so far?

Me, I'm only at the 6k mark, but I still have a couple rare fish to catch and just haven't had the time to sit down and grind them out.

Hey El, how about a poll that asks people which of the above marks they've reached (1k, 5k, 10k, 25k, etc)? I'd be curious to know where most other anglers stand at this point.

Just abit of a moan about the game mechanics really ... but im hoping someone might offer some insight , or at least agree with me :)

So .. Taiah started out with no fishing skill like everyone else did , however ... she oviously has no problems setting up her rod, baiting up or getting a half decent cast into the water .. but couldnt seem to catch much usefull.

                  * * *

Shes now at fishing skill 400 , but can she cast the rod straight? hell no , i stand her facing one direction and she casts it the opposite direction almost and two feet infront of her like a complete newbie fisher.
Sometimes i find myself casting a ridiculos amount of times before managing to get my cast in the pool ( no matter where i stand )
.. but somehow her improved fishing skill has strengthened her LUCK in catching fish.

i hope you understand what im getting at here =)

Thanks for reading.

If you could get just one change for fishing, what would it be?

For me, I'd like a more engaging mechanic than we have now (cast, wait, click) -- something going on in that wait period, even if it's just watching the shadow of a fish swim towards my bobber.

Hey guys, who else thought it would be cool if getting the 'Hail to the Chef' and 'Accomplished angler' acvhiements, gave us a piece of gear to help with out professions? I was thinking:

Chef's Hat (Rare Quality)
Head
Cloth
Equip: Gives a chance to create two of the item you are cooking (give it like a 5% proc rate)
AND/OR
Use: Creates a northern spice out of a soothing spice (12 hr cooldown)

Fisherman's Vest (Would look like a vest covered in hooks/lures and such) (Rare Quality)
Chest
Cloth
Equip: +5 Fishing
Use: Apply one of the various lures from your vest to your fishing rod (Would have a 50% chance to apply a +75 lure, a 45% chance to apply a +100 lure, and a 5% chance to apply a massive +120 lure!)

I think items that can currently be equipped in the off-hand but don't really do anything other than look cool should be changed to one-hand equip instead of off-hand. For instance, if Old Ironjaw and Old Crafty could be equipped in either hand, wouldn't it be awesome to walk around Dalaran dual-wielding Azeroth's most legendary urban fish? I can't think of a downside. I doubt twinks would get any unfair advantage from them, since the only stat they have is stamina, and aside from twinks, who wields OI and OC for any reason other than to look awesome?

I actually had the same idea a while back when I got rather excited about the idea of carrying around a rose and a wine glass at the same time (don't ask), then realized to my chagrin that I couldn't do it because they're both off-hand items.

At any rate ... if anyone else has any thoughts about this, whether you agree or simply think I'm a nut, please respond! Perhaps we can petition Blizzard to fix this. :)

Hi guys, I've got a few suggestions for things that i would like to see happen in the future in regards to the core fishing mechanic

1.) Fishing from mounts. If we don't get our specialized boat mounts, this would be the next best thing. Sitting on my magic carpet, having a fish would be killer

2.) Fishing skill having more of an impact. At the moment, Skill doesn't play too big a role. I had 375 fishing when WOTLK came out, the weather beaten fishing hat, and the arcanite fishing pole, and with 100 lures, i could fish pretty much anywhere in Northrend from the get go. I've heard a few times that the higher your skill, the accurately you should be able to cast (in regards to fishing pools), and that's a good idea, but it needs more. I think the chances of catching 'rare' fish (EG, Mr. Pinchy, Dalaran sewer rat, Eventide fountain coins, rusty footlocker's key, and fish for the 'one that got away' achievement) should be increased as your fishing skill goes up

3.) Fisherman's 'Buff'. All of the primary professions have recently been given a self only 'buff' (IE: Increased crit rating for skinners). Grand Master Fishermen (As well as those cooks and medics!) should also get a buff in the real world for all the hard work they put in to fishing! Some good ideas: Increased Swim Speed, Increased Hit Rating (due to the accuracy required to cast well) or increased Water Breathing (although that one is fairly lame)

Give me some more suggestions of things you would like to see done to fishing in the future!

TheTacoMan on "Salty achievement suggestion"

First off, no, i do not have the salty achievement. Secondly, yes, i have completed 'The One that Got Away'... although before it counted (i caught the rockhide strongfish).

Now, on to my suggestions:

First off, Mr. Pinchy's magical crawdad box HAS to be changed. Either make it so each Mr. Pinchy guarantee's a crawdad box, remove the achievement from the list, or have it shared with I Smell a Giant Rat (so that catching either pet unlocks the achievement). I'm on my 4th Pinchy ATM (fingers crossed!) and i am yet to get the box, it's frustrating enough that he's a 1 in 500 catch, but then you only get a 1 in 5 chance of getting him

Secondly, remove the 'one that got away' achievement from the salty title. Before you all rage at me, let me explain that this is one of the most frustrating achievements in game, as it is completely, 100% reliant on sheer luck. While the crawdad box and even the sewer rat have skill involved (either pure fishing skill, or the fact that you have to keep moving around to different pools) this one is just a one in million catch, that someone who has all the other achievements wont get after hours and hours of fishing, but some pleb who just got his first fishing pole will get it on his first cast.

HOWEVER - this achievement is so big, and has such a small chance of completion, i think it warrants it's own achievement 'reward'. Here are a few suggestions:
'Nat's Extra Thick Fishin' Line'
-Fer Really Big Fishes - Enchants your pole with a further +10 fishing skill

'Impossibly large Pile of Fish Fillets'
-It can't possibly be infinite, can it? - Think Everlasting Under spore pod, it summons a stack of food - 12hr cooldown

Other ideas include some kind of fishing chair, and some kind of boat 'mount' that you can drive around water and fish from

Would you think another is needed?

If so what would the achievements required be (or new ones) and what should the reward be?

I am thinking a boat =p

I thought I'd create this post as a place to vent my ideas for some fishing-related additions to the game:

Fishing Pole: Pocket Fisherman
A one-handed fishing-pole, perhaps with +5 or +10. For those of us who dual-wield or use a shield, and live with the constant fear that we're going to inadvertently sell or discard our off-hand item because we have our fishing pole equipped.

Engineering Recipe: Nail and a String
Requires Engineering skill of 1, Copper Bar x1, Linen Cloth x1
An Engineering pattern that would allow you to turn any staff into a fishing pole. For those who wield a staff and don't like to use an inventory slot to hold a fishing pole.

Blacksmithing Recipe: Thorium Skillet (Trinket)
Requires Blacksmithing skill of 275, Thorium Bar x10. Requires Forge
Any food cooked while the Thorium Skillet trinket is equipped gains the prefix "Well-Prepared" (e.g. "Well-Prepared Broiled Bloodfin") and gives a 10% boost to health and mana gains as well as other effects (but not the "well-fed" duration).

Ok, so the last one isn't exactly fishing-related, but it's fishing-related-related (if that's even proper English).

Any other ideas?

What's the most important reason you fish in WoW?

I think the most common answers are:

Gold/consumables.

Relaxation/to chat.

But there are other reasons too. Everything from mini-pet collecting to avoiding raid burnout.

This will probably become a formal front-page poll shortly, but first I'd like to hear some personal views.

I've been avidly posting a suggestion for a fishing boat mount. My suggestion would be either a rowing boat or motor boat that moves at normal speed and possible a cooler for beer. I would like to see your opinions are here at elsanglin.com.

First of all let me say that this is a terriffic website. If fishing was easy everyone would do it. Some how over the years as we search for catfish to crawdad, this website had eluded me. Blizzard has always found some way to reward the people who really enjoyed to fish, especially when there are those who consider it boring and pointless. Well today I think i did something that I believe has never been done before. I won the Stranglethorn Vale fishing tournament for the 5'th time!!! I had heard a rumor that Blizzard will be awarding a title in the expansion "Master Angler" to 5 time winners of the contest.

1. Is this True?
2. Would it matter if you had won on different servers? "I won twice on Ysondre and three times on Tichondrius.
3. Does Blizzard Keep track of who wins the event?

I look forward to fishing in the expansion and gaining the achievements that we have all drooled about since they were posted. If anyone can answer these questions or has any information please repost.

Hopefully Soon To Be
