For those who like to fish I have an Idea to improve our community!
To create a community the best thing is a channel.
Now just type "/join fish" and you'll enter a fishing channel, there's one now in Darkmoon fair realm.

But the topic had a totally random title, so I started a new one. ("EVRYONE LISTEN! - ! - ! - !" is never a good forum topic title...)

Game-specific channels are fine, but limited to faction and realm. There are about 350 English language realms, each with 2 factions. So that's about 700 separate little communities. And I know some people here play on non-English language realms. So it could be more.

Some websites have IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channels, which don't seem terribly popular relative to the site. There are some Twitter-like applications that allow players to communicate with the outside world (like other realms), but they don't seem terribly popular either. Blizzard's upcoming new Battle.net will allow more inter-realm communication, but I don't expect it to support "interest groups", like fishing - I still don't think they understand how fragmented communities can become around "niches" like this.

But it's clearly something people want to do.

Do you have any ideas? Thoughts?

There are more general things I'd like to do to bolster the community - things like being able to find other anglers on your realm, or tracking catches/achievements. We've even talked about in-game addons in the past. But I'd not considered chat.

There are a few methods not mentioned that should be used by every serious angler when it comes to winning the fishing contest.

The first is a means of walking on water. Previously you needed a shaman or Death Knight to remain mounted and retain a water walking effect but luckily the good old Elixir of Water Walking will now allow you remain mounted with it's affect up. This allows you move more directly to new pools, better positioning for casting and faster traveling if you traverse one of the few long stretches of water in search of underfished pools. These can be gotten from your local alchemist or commonly from the reward bag given by the outlands fishing daily.

Crusader aura from a tag along paladin. Helps you spend a lot less time between pools and get an edge on your competition. This is a good time to call in favors if you are serious about winning. Two classes will benefit less from this buff than others (depending on spec) due to their 15% mount speed increase talents: Death knights and fecklessly paladins (who will be using crusader aura anyways). Remember your paladin buddy doesn't have to be max level, crusader aura can be trained at lvl 62

Finally swiftness potions. These allow you to quickly dash between two close by pools, especially useful for getting an extra cast on a fresh pool when you are sharing pools with other anglers when your class lacks such a boost. They can also be used on the home stretch to beat out another angler to the quest giver. 5-10 should be enough for one competition. Unfortunately these aren't as cheap as water walking elixirs due to their rare drop old world ingredient. On a related note, all anglers without run speed increasing talents or abilities should be using a meta gem or boot enchant for additional run speed. Every bit helps!

Quick recommendation for the leveling guide.

If you haven't yet gotten the Find Fish ability (common if you are power leveling fishing) by the time you hit Outland, take the time to do it then.

When you go to Zangarmarsh to train fishing/cooking and/or buy recipes, fish the Steam Pump Flotsam pools. I recommend Serpent Lake (the big lake in the middle that houses the instances). Heavy and Curious Crates each can drop the Weather Beaten Journal and are quite common. Simply make some laps around the lake, fish the pools, and you should have your journal in a short time.

Did it this way myself and had the journal within 15 minutes. Other forum entries stated similar results.

Makes fishing in Outland pools much quicker and profitable.

Gihelle on "How to solo The Lurker Above (Fish Lurker Below in SSC)"

So, I got my attunement on how to fish Lurker solo 2 days ago (10/14), and I want to share with you. :)

You fish Lurker Below in Serpentshrine Cavern. If you haven't cleared any trash there, you will be attacked by Frenzies once you swim in the water there.

What you will need:

- Elixir of Water Walking
- Noggenfogger Elixirs (bring a lot)

If you're a Mage, you can use Slow Fall instead of Noggenfogger, if you're a Priest, you can simply use Levitate.

Get to SSC (you'll need a raid group), you'll be here after taking 2 elevators.
http://xs132.xs.to/xs132/08424/wowscrnshot_101508_071518408.jpg

Take the Water Walking Potion and start spamming Noggenfogger until you get the Slow Fall effect, then drop to the water. Why? Because, when you take a Water Walking potion, water will be treated as floor. And you'll drop from somewhere high enough to take fall damage, and remove the water potion effect. If you get to swim in the water, you're dead.

Once you land in the water, start walking to Lurker's platform.
http://xs132.xs.to/xs132/08424/wowscrnshot_101508_071544495.jpg

Lurker's Platform looks like a debris with a giant shining pool on the center, you can see an overview here:
http://xs132.xs.to/xs132/08424/wowscrnshot_101508_071639135.jpg
Beware to not fall in the water, Water Walking Potions bug a lot for me.

Here's the screenshot of me getting the achievement.
http://xs432.xs.to/xs432/08424/lurker302.jpg

And that's it! Unlike fishing Gahzranka, you don't get saved to SSC if you fish Lurker. But be sure to fish it naked, or else you'll take some unwanted durability hits ^_^

Sorry for the bad english. Hope this is useful to you.

Turning down your video settings can make it easier to see the fishing line, which between the time you cast and the time your fishing bobby fades into existence, this can be handy in immediately knowing where your bobber has landed (inside or outside of the Pool of Tasty Fish). Turning down specular lighting and full-screen glow effect can dramatically make your fishing line's color more distinct, as with these two features on your fishing line will be colored according to the color and lighting of the surrounding environment, making it harder to see.

Turning off the weather effect completely if STV is raining during the tournament also helps.

Fellow fishermen

Anyone know if there is a web page that makes it possible to see how many fishes different characters have fished? I know the information is available under statistics under Armory, but I would like a page where I could search e.g. for the character with the most catches on the server etc.

Regards

I took a flightpath from Ratchet to Tanaris and while flying I saw many multiples of Shipwreck Debris pools. They had a plank of wood sticking out of them. I'm going to try and get back to them, but I noticed I couldn't find it in a regular search of the site.

Anyone else seen or fished out of these?

This should probably be mentioned along with "cherry picking" schools -- if you are fishing a zone that's mostly empty over a period of days, you can "cherry pick" pools on your last run on Mondays, because the weekly maintenance will reset all the pools anyway.
