I saw something like this ONCE...

The guy had apparently decided to win even if it cost him real life cash. He paid to change his name to something innappropriate and then fished up his fish (not caring if he won that week apparently) and then had people report him (for his name and also for yelling certain things) so he got a 3 day suspension (that started during the extravaganza). The items in his inventory didn't despawn so the next week he had the items and just turned them in about 10min into the contest. He bragged about it but as far as I know nothing was done.

Now I don't know how true this was but I was fishing at the time he was yelling it and heard him brag.

I filed a ticket but never heard back.

The odds of a player happening upon a random dupe bug are extremely rare.

First of all, there are players who actually look for shit like this, to exploit it. In fact, they've found dupe bugs before. If you were around for early WoW, you'll remember how they had to do a gamewide 24 hour rollback once after gold farmers found a duping exploit and made so much gold that it would have destroyed all the economies.

Most of the duping bugs have since been worked out. One might pop up again after Wrath, given all the new systems in play, but I doubt a random guy will find it while fishing.

Anyway, as for the method I described, it is _extremely_ hit or miss. I've lost contests before for no other reason than because I stuck around on the island too long in the start. The pools really do just stop spawning there sometimes. It's also useless if you're competing with anybody. Since twinks like to use this damn island, you usually have competition.

Hey nice tip on how to win the comp Micha, if I ever get a chance to enter I’m gonna remember that one. I entered once but it was a real mare, so busy.

It’s possible the guy found a freak bug. With another game I played there was a bug that went a bit like this: first off you needed a particular trash item in your inventory, then you took a stack of items and split it so there was a lone item and a stack containing the rest. Then you had to hold the lone item in your hand, close your inventory and open the map. Now drop the item on the floor. Close the map so you can see the floor and hey presto there were two items there, not the single item you dropped. Pick them both up and repeat until you got as many items as you liked. Didn’t work with all stackable items, just some.

It wouldn’t be impossible for a similar thing to occur when, for example, transferring an item from the loot window to your bag maybe. Bugs turn up sometimes, maybe this guy found one, or maybe it just happened and he had no idea why or how.

What you're talking about is possible, I think.

This is the absolute fastest way to win the tournament:

1. You must be on the Zandalar island
2. Nobody else must be there
3. It must be a "good" day for the island

The pool spawns for the island fluctuate wildly. Sometimes pools will simply stop spawning there for no reason that I can discern. Sometimes pools will spawn there with very low density. In fact, trying to camp the island can sometimes cause you to dramatically fail. By good day, I mean that you must have pools respawning as quickly as they normally would (as if they were tastyfish pools elsewhere in STV). This does happen sometimes, and if you happen to be there when it does, and nobody else is there, it's essentially a guaranteed victory.

If all of these conditions are true, and all of the tastyfish pools on and around the island spawn _immediately_, it does seem possible to win in six minutes. My fastest win was around ten minutes, so six minutes seems like the absolute best circumstances possible. Like every star was crossed for the guy you're talking about.

Your winner probably just got very, very, very lucky. That and a combination of scouting. I always scouted the island within two or three minutes of the contest starting. If nobody started there, I would. It really can be a decisive advantage if you can pick up even one or two pools there at the start. If you can pick up more, nobody else has a chance.

I doubt it was a case of cheating. No hack that I know of helps to accelerate fishing. There are bots for it, but they're extremely crude, and I don't know of any hacks which would magically pull up two or three tastyfish at once. Most of the remaining hacks aren't subtle. They're speedhacks and the like, and you can tell somebody is using them about 1/2 second after they turn it on. Usually a ban is forthcoming rather quickly just by players reporting you.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps the clock you were looking at was your computer's time instead of server time? The contest doesn't seem to start perfectly at 2pm server time for me, so that could sway it a minute or two in either direction as well.

6 minutes doesn't seem possible to me which is 9 seconds per fish. There must have been a bug that let them keep there fish from the week earlier or something I would also like to know how that worked.

I'm new to this forum so Hi all!

So this happened some months ago, I did put in a GM ticket at the time but otherwise I've sat on it since. I'm dying of curiosity. I'm sure the GM's won't say anything and I've tried talking to the individual involved but respect their desire to "not talk about it".

I show up for the tourney one fine Sunday and everything is going smoothly till ~6 min into it then *bang* "We have a winner!" I had been doing this long enough to know the usual time is closer to 20 min and some quick mental math tells me that even if someone managed to stay put the whole time and just keep casting that 6 just shouldn't be possible. Also a quick armory check showed the winners skill to be in the low 200's. I guess thats high enough to guarantee catches with good lures but it still made it look even weirder.

I know you can't hang on to fish from one Sunday to the next, to be perfectly honest I tested that out myself. I've seen 3rd party stuff for auto fishing, but without going into a debate on the ethics involved, I've never seen anything, glider or hack, that would result in fishing faster or in getting a school to spawn faster. Further if someone were to use such a thing wouldn't they be clever enough to wait at least till the 15-16 min mark ? I've seen several times that fast and while suspect thats not outright undoable. Why raise suspicion with an obviously impossible time?

So any thought on what might have happened there? I feel a little stupid even talking about this and I hope I'm not breaking some kind of taboo by doing this. The last thing I want is to encourage bad sportsmanship so if anyone knows for sure it was a hack, please, I DO NOT want details. But if theres any possible way this was legit I'd sure love to know all about that and I'd like to bring my opinion of this guy back out of the gutter.

On another note whats the fastest time you guys have seen the tourney won? My wins came in at 19 and 26 min respectively.
