For me, there is no cure for the insanity. Catching the sewer rat was an 8 hour straight fishing period. I also got the coins achievement this way with a 6 hour period. Usually i just turn on the TV and fish. To sum up my turtle escapades im sure that i have over 5k casts and no turtle.

I found that I needed to stop caring. 7200 catches for the one that didn't get away was quite mental and ruined 90% of my christmas holidays. Since I have decided to take it easy after an initial push.

For the turtle I went all out for two evenings the first weekend I had time. Now, I'm putting in an hour here and there. I'm at 5200 casts for the turtle and no sign yet.

Frankly I think they should cap the luck. One can literally go forever without catching the rare things and if someone doesn't find a way to relax about that prospect it induces rather very unhealthy behavior.

As an aside there is always something else going on when fishing. Usually a web-radio or podcast or streaming news. Anything to take the utter repetitiveness of doing thousands of casts away.

I hope the next long-haul fishing achievement is one where you have to collect a lot of stuff, but have a very good chance of getting it. I can handle 1000 fish per type to make a massive lure better than this "push a 1/n-thousand chance button" a few thousand times. At least you know you are down and see progress in your grind. It's hardly any more stimulating than pushing "Go" on a vegas slot machine, a few thousand times. And after every failed push you are exactly were you started, staring at a miniscule chance of getting it next try and another.

Varies from day to day. A few days ago I was fishing like 5 hours straight, playing Peggle, watching movies etc. on the side. I could have gone on, mainly quit because it was bout 1am and I had to get up for work the next day.

Other times I'm quite fed up after half an hour or something.

I'm now on something like 5-7k fish and stuff, with translates to... 3-4k casts or so, maybe 5k considering I fished quite a lot in Crystalsong and there are very few pygmies there.

I'm starting to feel the dissappointment by now though. I was and still am prepared to spend quite some time farming the turtle but two things really bring me down...
- people who got the turtle after barely a day, maybe on the first cast
- that you have to fish in pools. I'd much rather sit there 10 hours straight and fish at one place than spend 3 hours flying from pool to pool.

Especially when you got competition or a pool ninja that fishes in your "occupied" pool, maybe repeatedly ... that's when I just feel like dropping the whole damn thing.

It would be awesome if they changed it to "can drop from any open water in Northrend" then I'd just pop in Star Wars IV - VI and have a good time. ^^

When I fish, I usually just listen to a book I bought on itunes. Than you don't worry about not getting the thing you want untell the book ends.

When I'm fishing, I usually end up just fishing for an hour at a time. Sometimes less, sometimes more, but it averages out. Any longer than that and I really start to go crazy.

If I have to put those fishing hooks on every 10 minutes, i end up fishing a lot shorter times. 2 or 3 applications. I like to fish slow and take my time, so if I'm on a 10-minute timer it just makes it a lot less fun.

I think we've all experienced the temporary brain damage that comes with those long grinds. The One that Didn't Get Away, the Giant Sewer Rat (not to mention those that we just have no luck with). And of course there's the latest- the Sea Turtle.
It seems like most people have either recieved or given up on the Sea Turtle. A few of us mad hats are still clocking in hours a day searching for the slowest of mounts, trying to find room in our bank for the next stack of fish and abusing our poor fishing poles. But at what point do you start to snap? At what point do you roll up in a ball, fishing with your toes while biting off whats left of your finger nails? How often have you hit this low?
I'll hit 7,000 casts for the Turtle tomorrow. I'm still doing pretty well, but the further I get from the "5,000" point the more the doubts start attacking. I'm almost done with my second book-on-tape (Harry Potter, Jim Dale is an excellent voice actor) and just hoping that I won't finish a third.
Let's hear some of your crazier fish stories, and some tips on how to fight off "fish madness".

Ah yes.. During my quest for the Crushfish, fishing down at Menethil seemed...
I daresay endless.
So to keep my mind from succumbing, I hopped on the Desert Bus mentally. http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Desert%20Bus/

For listening to people chatter mindlessly sure seems to take my mind off of things.
Especially since all of us are stuck in one spot and not going anywhere for a while.
Helps me fight the silence & solitutde.

I've got a pretty good method for not going nuts, but it hinges on my computer setup. My main method is using my laptop while I watch TV. I put one iPod earbud in to listen for splashes, and I just cast, center over bobber, click when I hear the sound and repeat. I get the vast majority of my fishing done this way. I've also made a little platform on my treadmill, so I can take the laptop downstairs and fish while I work out AND watch TV.

Lastly, I've got dual monitors on my desktop and a second account, so sometimes I'll dual box and fish on one while I play on the other. (Sometimes I fish on both!) I can also swipe my wife's laptop and do the same thing.

I think if I tried to fish the amount I do while only concentrating on the game I'd probably poke my eyes out.

When I'm fishing, I do not count fish (or catches) or count the time. I decide to go fishing something, move to the place and do it. While I'm there I do other things. Chatting with the people from the guild, reading forums or other interesting websites. Read a book or what ever.

I really like fishing, but I don't do it 7 hours a day. Sometimes 1-2 hours when my boyfriend is raiding and I'm left playing alone. Then I go to Dalaran and fish coins, or the key to the jail lockbox or try to catch the sewer rat. Have this one with 3 chars allready.
