The day prior to that I had fished the Dark Herring up for The One That Didn't Get Away in the exact same location. I started at Cauldros Island to the north of Utgarde Keep and worked my way up the mountain streams leading to the lake in the North-West (which isn't Caldemere Lake), fishing all Fangtooth Herring schools on the way. Running up and down all the streams leading the lake, I noticed that the risk of getting attacked by enemy creatures was very minimal. The pools spawn often enough in the streams and lake, so theres no need to move to other parts of Howling Fjord. I was so excited I woke up my husband to tell him. He then spent the whole day hitting me with his turkey shooter. I haven't been trying to catch the turtle, was stocking up on Nettlefish and trying to lvl up to catch the Giant Rat. I did, of course mount immediately and wander around Ironforge, etc...<br /> I was in the center lake of the Basin when I caught him, and DO get the breath bar, so it has to be the pole. I had Nat's pole, sharpened fish hook, and that's it. I caught him about 5 minutes after reaching lvl 450. I chose to go to the glaciers off of South Borean. Others were raiding but I decided to take it easy and do my usual routine fishing. It came out of a pool at the southern-most edge of the glaciers next to a small one. I used my fishing hat and one of the +100 glow worms. I couldn't tell you if it helped.</p> <p>I immediately mounted it and swam for shore with it and landed on the beach in east borean and took some screenies. He is definitely one of my favorites. I sit in Dal and pop him in and out of his shell. I take him off "run" and casually stroll with him.</p> <p>Btw, I had fished up over 18K items by the time I got her. My friend has her on 2 of her toons now, but she is just lucky that way. (resat counters when it was added) and so far nothing. The turtle and STV is what seems to be eluding me.<br /> But I am persistant (read: stubborn), so I will continue to fish for it. In order to gather motivation, I am not going for the mount specifically, but instead set myself a goal of certain amounts of fish to catch. No turtle yet. A friend gained hers after ~8K caught. I fished all pools from Dragonblight around HF to GH in the East and back again through to Coldaara. It has been a bit disappointing but during my fishing experience I have paid for my chopper and several other items and mounts through using cooking and my fishing mats, so all is not lost. It's a bit frustrating because I need 1 more mount aside from my last Tourney mount to reach the 100 mark. By the time you make it all the way around they have all respawned. Sorry in that case.</p> <p>I have decided to get two achievements at the same time, so I went straight to Howling Fjord, to <a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?maps=495:422198">Winter Breath's Lake</a>. There are many Fangtooth Herring pools in this lake and also there are 3 small rivers nearby where pools spawn at times too. Basically I just flew around the place while watching a movie and fishing. I believe I got lucky since it took me about two evenings of fishing to get the mount, and I also got 6 <a href="http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44703" title="Wowhead - Dark Herring." class="nocolor">Dark Herring</a>. Also I was alone there 95% of the time.</p> <p>Though I heard about people getting lucky and catching the mount in shorter time, the rat from Dalaran sewers took me about 2 months to catch, so if you're still trying to fish up the mount and already got your rat and being angry on all those lucky (or patient) people who caught the turtle, just relax, forget about your goal and fish for profit or pleasure. Finaly got it so I will share some info. Someone asked the question "does gear/skill make a diff?" i would have to say no not really. I assumed that too from day one when this thing came out. so i maxed gear at +57 did the hooks for +100 and did the drink for another 10... over 1500-2000 fish and no turtle. Had guildies get the turtle before me and i dont think they had max gear. It was all luck. i stopped using the +100 and just used my cap's +75 lure, and i stopped drinking... so i had 450+132= 582skill. When i got demorlized and stop counting i was over 5k casts. was just toolin' around Sholazar for the fishing daily and stopped at one last node before I left and fished him up. I caught over 100 Imperial Manta Rays in under 30 min. There was no one there except a couple of lvl 80 horde doing the pvp quests that are there. So long as you mind your own business and move quickly from pool to pool, you shouldn't have any problems with the other faction, unless you're on a pvp server. There are 2 big water areas there and on my server, one is usually pretty quiet. Unfortunately, the other is used for the fishing daily. Not totally sure how many catches it took me but it was probably close to 300.</p> <p>Now I need to figure out where he will be most useful. It was fun to walk around Dalaran with him and Speedy at my side..haha </p>
