I sampled 300 in the boat at Tarren Mill. Nothing. Looked on here to see if there was a location superior to others in getting a hold of the pole. Unfortunately the Iris Lake of Erir's day is gone, however one can still fish its' boiling remains. I fished another three hundred , choosing to sit in the Ashenvale side so the Fire Lord was not bellowing in my ear. Nothing. Swung south to Lake Mystral and the Silverwind Retreat. Here another four hundred fish. Nada. One 17 pound and three 19 pound catfish. About three healing and mana potions apiece. </p> <p>Needing a change of scenery I go to the newely emptied Dandred's Fold in Hillsbrad at the shore of Lake WhatevertheUndercityWasCalledBeforeTheZombies. Here another four hundred casts later, bam, the pole! So total, no less than 1400 casts to farm this pole. I then happily skipped off to Strendel's Pond for fishing line and the new pole brought me luck. Caught the bugger in about two dozen casts. After thousands of worgen kills (leveled twice!), and many thousands of casts near Tarren Mill, I had about given up. I was attempting it in Lake Everstill with my main (Sutorix/Windrunner) when I decided to switch things up. I leveled an alt to 15 (the minimum level needed for the pole) and a middling amount of fishing level (~140). By the time I got to 180 skill, I fished it up! I tried my luck there on three toons and all three fished up the pole with a non-fish loot drop rate of 1.7% to 2.1% - more than double that of Lake Everstill. Iris Lake is almost like a clock. Usually, but not always, on the 100th cast, up comes something from the non-fish loot table. If not the exact 100th, it was somewhere between 95-110 casts.</p> <p>Let me know what your data is. I don't want it to feel like <a href="http://www.wowhead.com/achievement=2336">Insane in the Membrane</a>. That's a particular problem for ultra-rare, but not terribly useful catches. And arguably there are a few catches that aren't terribly achievable already (like the 2/5 Rings).</p> <p>So, the Darkwood Fishing Pole is a tough call. It is now the rarest fishing pole. But it only offers +15 skill. I'm casting in Duskwood on the western side in that river. Probably cast around 700 so far (not counting the 700+ I cast in Hillsbrad) and have yet to catch it.</p> <p>I'm casting in a 55 base skill area, so I know I'm at the right spot (as far as the knowledge on here says).
