Everyone can get some kind of fishing pole, but you can only turn into a fish if you win the contest and pick that reward. It's very nice for when I go out mining because I can reach underwater nodes very quickly. To me it was a no-brainer. The trinket, while really cool, is something I would rarely ever use. But the pole gets used everyday and is still the best pole in the game. When wotlk was announced, I was afraid my trustly pole would get benched in favor of one of the new ones, but by the looks of it, Blizz intends to keep this pole as the best pole in the game. I just wish they would update the graphics of it to look as cool or cooler than the new ones.
