Fishing reels!

I always wanted them to implement a fishing rod with a 'gem' socket. Then these gems, or fishing reels as they are marked, could be attached. Maybe they come in three different types (+3, +5 & +7 fishing skill), and all obtainable through various fishing type activities.

Fisherman’s Dynamite (Engineering Recipe)

Light it, throw it, wait, BANG! Fish float to the top and you gotta swim in and fetch them. Works on both pools and open water. Needs to have a moderate cool down and be reasonably expensive to craft, so remains a fun item rather than viable method of fishing.

Some great ideas....

Here are a few ideas of my own...

The Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat made it so you didn't have to buy lures... I like the concept of gear that takes away the need to buy supplies. Makes it truly feel like a reward and it's practical. Since there's more than enough +fishing gear already, I thought of these.

First Idea.. They should have included a reward with the Salty Title. They made it very hard to get (I love that) and a piece of gear to show for it would be nice. The hat took away the need to buy lures, this takes away the need to buy water walking potions.

Master Anglers Boots of Water Walking (Rare Quality)
Use: Grants water walking for 10 minutes. Can be used every 5 minutes.
Equip: +5 Fishing Skill
+40 Stamina
+40 Intellect
Reward from getting Salty Title (Retroactive)

Next idea. Same concept, but geared towards cooking. After all, what good is fishing if you can't cook what you catch? This item wouldn't be worn, it would just be a usable inventory item.

Salty Chef's Portable Grill (Rare Quality)
Use: Sets up a grill for 5 minutes that can be used for cooking. Can be used every 5 minutes.
Reward for gaining the Salty Title and the Chef Title. (Retroactive)

Next Idea

Chef's Hat (Looks like a chef hat - Rare Quality)
Equip: Lowers the time it takes to cook by 50%.
Reward from getting 160 cooking recipes. (retroactive)

Last Idea

Fingerless Fishing Gloves (Rare Quality)
Equip: When casting, sometimes allows an extra fish to be caught. (Doesn't Work On Tastyfish)
Reward for catching 5000 fish. (Retroactive)

Nice idea, Vicenti... something like:

Crawdad Spinner
This reusable fishing lure grants +75 fishing skill, and triples your chances of catching Mr. Pinchy!

Granted, tripling your chances would give you a THREE in 500 rather than a ONE in 500, but I'll take any chance I can get!

Tastyfish Trawler
This reusable fishing lure grants +75 fishing skill, and gives you a 25% chance to catch an extra Tastyfish from Tastyfish pool casts.

Also, here's another fishing item idea I had:

Nat Pagle's Unfair Advantage
"There's no such thing as overfishing." - Nat Pagle
When cast upon a fishing pool, this net will gather the entire contents in a single throw! (30 minute cooldown)

Some nice ideas there. How about a collection of special (reusable) lures, some could be made through a profession and some only found through fishing, or as rewards for completing fishing quests. Applying a particular lure would give you an additional X% chance of catching the fish it was designed for, when fishing open water.

On a separate note, if you’re worried about accidentally selling your off hand item, here’s what I do. I’ve got this add-on called outfitter. I use it to change in to my fishing outfit with a single click. It equips my pre-selected gear and the gear it takes off is automatically all dumped into the same bag my fishing rod came from, which isn’t the bag I keep junk for selling in, hence I never worry about losing my off hand item.

I thought I'd create this post as a place to vent my ideas for some fishing-related additions to the game:

Fishing Pole: Pocket Fisherman
A one-handed fishing-pole, perhaps with +5 or +10. For those of us who dual-wield or use a shield, and live with the constant fear that we're going to inadvertently sell or discard our off-hand item because we have our fishing pole equipped.

Engineering Recipe: Nail and a String
Requires Engineering skill of 1, Copper Bar x1, Linen Cloth x1
An Engineering pattern that would allow you to turn any staff into a fishing pole. For those who wield a staff and don't like to use an inventory slot to hold a fishing pole.

Blacksmithing Recipe: Thorium Skillet (Trinket)
Requires Blacksmithing skill of 275, Thorium Bar x10. Requires Forge
Any food cooked while the Thorium Skillet trinket is equipped gains the prefix "Well-Prepared" (e.g. "Well-Prepared Broiled Bloodfin") and gives a 10% boost to health and mana gains as well as other effects (but not the "well-fed" duration).

Ok, so the last one isn't exactly fishing-related, but it's fishing-related-related (if that's even proper English).

Any other ideas?
