[Fishing] A few changes to the fishing mechanic!

  1. TheTacoMan <Salty>, 1 year ago:

Hi guys, I've got a few suggestions for things that i would like to see happen in the future in regards to the core fishing mechanic

1.) Fishing from mounts. If we don't get our specialized boat mounts, this would be the next best thing. Sitting on my magic carpet, having a fish would be killer

2.) Fishing skill having more of an impact. At the moment, Skill doesn't play too big a role. I had 375 fishing when WOTLK came out, the weather beaten fishing hat, and the arcanite fishing pole, and with 100 lures, i could fish pretty much anywhere in Northrend from the get go. I've heard a few times that the higher your skill, the accurately you should be able to cast (in regards to fishing pools), and that's a good idea, but it needs more. I think the chances of catching 'rare' fish (EG, Mr. Pinchy, Dalaran sewer rat, Eventide fountain coins, rusty footlocker's key, and fish for the 'one that got away' achievement) should be increased as your fishing skill goes up

3.) Fisherman's 'Buff'. All of the primary professions have recently been given a self only 'buff' (IE: Increased crit rating for skinners). Grand Master Fishermen (As well as those cooks and medics!) should also get a buff in the real world for all the hard work they put in to fishing! Some good ideas: Increased Swim Speed, Increased Hit Rating (due to the accuracy required to cast well) or increased Water Breathing (although that one is fairly lame)

Give me some more suggestions of things you would like to see done to fishing in the future!

This would be great fishing from my Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth(which was earned while fishing for my Salty title!). Though I do think fishing from flying mounts may be a bit overpowered, unless Fisher(wo)men get a 'fishing boat' vehicle mount (Please Blizzard! We will love you forever!)

2.) Fishing skill having more of an impact. At the moment, Skill doesn't play too big a role. I think this is a good idea, but my idea would be to make each 50 points(over the zone/areas 'to stop getting away' required fishing skill level) in fishing grant 1% extra chance to catch that zone/areas rare' fish.
    For example:
If you was trying to catch 15 Pound Mud Snapper in Elwynn Forest which needs fishing skill 1 to cast and 25 to avoid fish getting away.
So lets say you have level 1 fishing skill you would have a (approximately) 0.01% chance to catch 15 Pound Mud Snapper but at skill level 75 you would have a 1.01% chance to catch 15 Pound Mud Snapper and at 450 you will have a 8.51% chance.
I also don't think that lures should count but +fishing items(as they are relatively hard to get) should count (Imo).
Higher rare fish like Dark Herring will stay at a <1% chance to catch until us anglers get to level our fishing again.

I am not sure about this one, though if I was to pick a buff it would have to be either extra water walking time from Elixir of Water Walking maybe 50% more time, or swim speed increase which would have to stack with Hook of the Master Angler.
Though these two 'buffs' would interfere with the Druid's Glyph of Aquatic Form and Alchemist's Mixology this could cause a problem maybe?

Other then this all I really want to be changed is the Arcanite Fishing Pole, it really needs the model changing to some thing instantly recognised like the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole, upgrade it's 'look' so it can be recognised without needing the holder to be inspected.

I think that's it for this post.
Any comments suggestions on this topic would be great, maybe we could post on the official forums our best idea's!?

Posted using my Xperia X1 mobile, please dismiss any mistakes.

Yeah it kinda makes sense to fish from a mount since you can do it while /sleep ing or sitting, I think it would be a nice add.

However I don't know too much about job buffs for the secondary skills, I just don't think blizz would put it in :(

I don't think fishing from mounts will happen. Maybe we get a boat as new achievements unfold? Who knows?
