[Fishing] Achievements

I am a little pissed off at the achievement "The One That Didn't Away". I completed the quest with a Steelscale Crushfish, and today at the tournament I finally caught a Rockhide Strongfish. I was so happy because I figured that fish would now be checked off on the achievement. It was not. The reason this upsets me is because ANYONE can go and buy one, I thought this achievement would show you CAUGHT one. Your thoughts?

I guess it's because you've already done it. I couldn't try myself, but I expect that once the achievement is done, it will become locked and you can't "add" anything to it (another fish in this example).

I'm pretty sure, that you can't complete this achievement by buying it...

You absolutely cannot complete this achievement by buying the fish. It has to register as a "catch," which is why anyone who had one in their bags prior to the achievements going live did not get the achievement credit.

What i was saying was I thought it would give people a way to show just how many rare fish they have CAUGHT. I understand you can not buy it and its locked cause ive done it :P

If someone is flaunting a rare catch around like they actually caught it....just ask them to link you their achievement. If they can't then they bought it unless it was caught before the achievements came online. It would be nice to have the achievement keep track of every fish you've caught. Perhaps a suggestion post on the suggestion forums?

From what I've gathered, this is more or less impossible from a coding perspective. I agree that it's rather disappointing to have caught a rare fish and yet lack the achievement, but the current system doesn't distinguish between caught and bought fish.

like i said my main issue is with catching rares POST patch. I just think every rare you catch post patch should be checked off under "The One That Didnt Get Away" achievement. I can understand the impossibility of tracking rares before the patch, but once you get one checked off on the achievement you cant get anymore to show off....just stinks. really hurt my motivation to catch the dark herring, guess I'll go for it when I hit 80 /sigh.

It'd be great, really. I guess, they can't redo this because it'd require recoding of whole achievement system. However, they could still add fishing achievements for every rare catch and make the "The One That Didn't Get Away" require to complete one of those. You could "show off" your fish and it wouldn't break the achievement system.

I had same problem with "Master Angler of Stranglethorn", I won it prior to 3.0, so it was locked. Few weeks ago, I won it again and I was expecting it'd check off the other requirement... and well, it didn't. Honestly, I don't care about it much, because I have both items. However, I agree with you, Blizzard could do something with it..
