    The first advice I ever got about fishing was "download Fishing Buddy". So if it hadn't been for people like you, Thalen (who wrote the original Stranglethorn contest guide, and also lurks here) and Willhelm (for hinting at variations in catches by time), El might never have become fascinated with fishing.

    On the main topic, there was some discussion in the past.

    I think a fairly small set of somewhat-rare fish/achievements are good for forum signatures. But I'd also like to do a lot more to track activity within the game, allow people to write diaries of their fishing, let angler on the same realm get to know one another, link across to social networking sites, and similar. I was about to start work on it when the 3.1 PTR opened - but documenting new content is a bit of a distraction, so nothing much has happened yet.

    Parsing armory achievements is the easiest way to watch in-game actions, but doesn't allow much to be tracked. One possibility (glances at Sutorix) would be for an addon to collect information about catches, and then upload that data to this site. Technically that's quite complex because addons cannot (ironically for an online game) talk to the internet, so separate software is needed, meaning extra coding and maintenance work, security paranoia, and so on. And even then long-time anglers will want to manually enter all their old catches - which is probably almost all of them.

    Glad to see you coming around Sutorix, and thanks for the thread about Fishing Buddy suggestions. That's always been one of my 'must have' addons, you're a godsend to the fishing community. Keep up the great work!

    Drop me an email and we can figure out the best way to do this. I can probably put together something simple and transparent enough for Windows and Mac to do the trick -- it depends on where we want to do all the work (preferably *not* on your server!)

    Hmmm...There's an aquarium entry for the 1 ring and the 2 ring, but not the 5 ring. Is it on the to-do list, or are we not expecting the 5 ring to be common enough to warrant an aquarium entry el?

    With hindsight, The 2 Ring should not have been added: Even if you do the Outland fishing dailies every day, you could spend years trying to gain it. And unlike The 1 Ring, the 2 isn't actually caught. Since the 5 Ring is similar to the 2 Ring, I don't intend to add it as a separate item. One possibility is to change the 2 Ring to read "2 or 5". Could be messy if this joke is still being repeated 10 years from now.

    Agree completely about it not actually being caught...but for that matter, neither is the Strand Crawler or any of the crocolisks, but they tend to have a much higher drop rate than either the 2 ring or the 5 ring.

    As far as an either/or type of thing, yeah, that'd be cool. I'm still running outlands fishing daily til I get both the crocs I'm still missing (and also doing it daily on non croc days in hopes for a 2 ring). I do like the aquarium setup, but just had noticed the similarity between the 2 and 5 rings, but that only one was represented in the aquarium.

    Minor detail..I have Crocolisks showing twice when mouseover my aqua link ;) and others have that too..
