[Fishing] Arcanite or Mastercraft?

  1. Triseult <Salty>, 4 years ago:

Bit of a silly and pointless dilemma, but I thought I should ask anyway, for the fun of it...

I have neither yet, but if I did, which one would be best to equip?

I'm tempted to say Arcanite, because 1) it has a higher bonus, and 2) it IS a more prestigious fishing pole considering you have to win the STV Content.

On the other hand, the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole is an epic... that has to count for something, right?

  2. Leonie <Salty>, 4 years ago:

I must admit the first thing I did in the expansion was to get the rep for the Mastercraft. It certainly looks epic when "sheathed" and after carting the Arcanite pole about for literally years, it makes a change.

As I'm not yet a sufficient level to get to Dalaran and I refuse to buy a portal, I may equip the old Arcanite if I struggle when I finally get there. I'm hoping to have maxed my fishing skill by that time, however.

Truth be told, I ground the rep as much as for Pengu the Penguin as for the pole. ;-)

  3. heraklen <Angler>, 4 years ago:

The mastercraft pole looks cooler when you use it since its bent like a banana :D - you can easily spot someone using that pole
When someone uses the arcanite you have to inspect them before knowing.

I prefer Arcanita, is the best. Besides being a fish under water can not be compared to anything, not even carry a pole epic.

thats right, but hey, i did a 1,5k meleecrit with the kalu'ak pole... and i'm a priest ;)

(tbh i too prefer the arcanite fishing pole)

For underwater breathing, it depends on whether or not you're a melee class. As ranged, I prefer the Mastercraft pole, but I imagine most melee would prefer the fish trinket.

  7. Acquiesce <Salty>, 4 years ago:

    It's really a draw.

Arcanite is the better fishing pole, but that +5 is negligible. By the time you reach 450, those additional 5 points won't make or break you. You'll still need to use lures (or none at all in places like Howling Fjord).

If you're interested in the water breathing, Kalu'ak is cool, but with the breath timer already increased to 3 minutes, and some deep water spots including air bubbles, there's really no need for that little bonus.

Last is the obvious damage increase with the Kalu'ak pole.

If it's all about fishing, earn yourself the Arcanite. If it's just about utility or makeshift-weapons, go Kalu'ak.

  8. Luma <Salty>, 4 years ago:

Only the Arcanite Pole, with a combination of gear, can give you the possibility of never having to buy another lure and/or never having to Lager up before catching. +35 fishing is better than +30. Stats are stats, epic is epic, but +fishing is priceless.

  9. Miodrag <Angler>, 4 years ago:

    off topic

The whole thing about new "epic" fishing pole is degradation from stats to look. After I saw that some pools are useless, this fishing pole, item bugs and never easyer game contents I came to conclusion that Blizzard is doing effort to ruin this game...

  10. Peter <Angler>, 4 years ago:

    The Mastercraft one for sure

    1. awesome damage
    2. epic
    3. underwater breathing

You lose 5 fishing skill .. whoop-dee-do, I'm already beyond max fishing skill with 450+30+100+10, and i dont even have my boots or hat yet!

  11. Vicenti <Angler>, 4 years ago:

I don’t have the Arcanite either, I’ve been using the FC-5000, however, all the old rods look the same, at least the new one adds a new style, so gets my vote, for now. Maybe if I get bored of the look I’ll go back to my trusty FC-5000, with 450 skill and +100 lure, you can still fish anywhere with this pole without the need for any other gear.

The Arcanite may have the best +Fishing and the Mastercraft may have the cool new look and best Damage, but the Nat Pagle’s Extreme Angler FC-5000 has to be the coolest name.

I’m changing my vote, the FC-5000 is the best ;-)

  12. Marlburo <Extremely Salty>, 4 years ago:

yeah this one boggled my mind for a while. My thinking is if there were pools that, to avoid get aways you needed that extra +5 fishing.....arcanite clearly. That isn't the case though, so i have the trinkets equipted when I fish, people know I have won the tournament and, the Mastercraft is epic and looks crazy and is what i use.

  13. Gamal <Angler>, 4 years ago:

There is a major advantage to use Arcanite pool with +5 skill, you don't have to pay for lures. The maximum (unlured) fishing skil is 502 (?) and involves Arcanite pool if you want to go 500+. 575 skill avoids get-aways everywhere, so the only (pseudo-)lure to use, is the free one in your hat.

  14. Marlburo <Extremely Salty>, 4 years ago:

Yeah now I don't know, the highest you can get with the Mastercraft + Hat is 497+75=572. 502 is the highest fishing you can get with arcanite so with the hat you can get 577. No get aways until 575 are only in The Frozen Sea (fish for Gigantic Feast and +40spi+40sta).
    *STOP TRAIN OF THOUGHT*
I was about to type, that's what I was saying....there's nothing really cool you need that extra +5. But then i thought MAYBE THERE IS. I mean its kinda hard to fish in those Monsterbelly and Moonglow pools out on those glaciers without a flier. Just like Sketttis. They are in a pretty limited area, you can ONLY catch them in the frozen sea which is a pretty small area. Just like Skettis. Lastly, you need max fishing to avoid get aways. Just Like Skettis. I mean is that possible could there be something you can catch from those pools that hasn't been caught/seen? Probably not.....but I guess that fishing item thread got me thinking crazy
    *CONTINUE*
Anyways, I think you're also forgetting one key factor. You will still have to at least carry the Mastercraft. People WILL come up to you fishing "oh you don't have the epic one yet....I thought YOU of all people would have it by now". Trust me they will....so I wear the tournament trinkets and use the Mastercraft. If I find my self in the frozen sea heck, I've done the fishing daily so many times I have a lifetime supply of +100 lures.

  15. Luma <Salty>, 4 years ago:

I suppose you're right. With the Salty title there already is a lot of attention. I'm asked where I got the title a lot. For me the Arcanite pole is the thing though, mainly because of the effort I put in to get it and because there is no better actual "fishing" pole. I was fond of my FC-5000 too, but more because it was good for almost no effort... lol. :) The key words there... "For me". If having an epic fishing pole is enjoyable to you, then by all means enjoy it. It's a great pole with a great look. For non contest winners, it's the best you can get and for contest winners who want a new look and an epic to show off... excellent... When I get the rep to buy it, I certainly will. I even have an extra +5 line to put on it.

I found another reason to be using the Mastercraft pole recently.

If you are a Druid, you will be able to see that the pole grants 1884 attack power in feral forms. (This figure won't display if you are not.) You can't enchant the Mastercraft with anything very useful, but if you are a low-level feral and have nothing better than the earliest quest staves, this does very nicely.

I did the better part of a level grinding Lackey ears in the middle of a lake for Cenarian rep (yes, I know any self-respecting Druid should have done that pre-BC, but I was fishing). Not only did I never have to switch to my aquatic form, I got off a FB of 6005 and the majority were around 5100. (I was a little over-level for the area at the time, but my gear was level 70 for the most part.)

My advice to all Druids newly arrived in Northrend would be to get this pole a.s.a.p., whether you fish or not.

  17. Shimarenda <Salty>, 4 years ago:

I usually equip the Mastercraft pole simply because it has a unique look. I confess though that I also carry my Arcanite pole with me and sometimes use it just for a change.

  18. Talathan <Angler>, 4 years ago:

My opinion is: The Arcanite, due to its rarety. Only 52 of these are given out on any server each year. On those servers that have been up since WoW 1.0 went public, there are barely over 200 ppl with an Arcanite rod... and that assumes that all of these accounts still exist.

Considering how good the Mastercraft rod is, I'd venture to say it's likely that every server currently has over 200 ppl of each faction that have them. As time goes on, this number will certainly grow much faster than "one per week."

One can only hope that Blizz will change the cosmetic appearance af the Arcanite to make it obvious that it is a very rare item.

To further your argument, remember that 52 is the MAXIMUM amount that can be given out in a year. The actual number will almost certainly be lower due to people taking the trinket instead of the pole, or people winning the contest 2+ times.
