[Fishing] Broken Wine Bottle Blues

  1. Leonie <Salty>, 1 year ago:

I've cancelled my WoW accounts and the main one expires in three weeks, but before I go, I want to try some reeeally Extreme Anglin'. But what to do?

Well, I've read about the Broken Wine Bottle mace, here on El's site. It can be wielded by a level 7 and is fished from the Sludge Fen near Durotar. All my toons were a bit mature for a level 7 weapon, except my level 6 Rogue bank alt, Silvester. So, this is what he did last night...

He was parked in IF, so he trained fishing in the Forlorn Caverns and got 5 big skill points before taking a tram ride to SW. I was hoping to keep him to level 6 to make getting to the Fen more of an achievement, but he sadly hit 7 while battling through wolves on the way to Westfall Bridge. Upon reaching the bridge, he jumped in the water and swam nearly to the bridge which connects Darkshire to Westfall, where he then got out and skirted the Dagger Hills. His first death was to a Defias Knuckleduster as he made for the pier not far from the lighthouse.

Silvester then swam to the Vile Reef, stopping off to become neutral with the trolls on Yojamba Island. Then back into the water, waving at surprised players until eaten by a very mean fish as he drew near the first Bloodsail camp. The fish did him a favour, though, as it placed him at the GY right beside the entrance to BB.

He grabbed the BB FP and then caught the boat to Ratchet, where he met the first of two very strange people who wanted take him under their wing and escort him. I (er, he) spent much time explaining that, while very kind, that would completely negate the whole journey.

At Ratchet, he jumped into the river that runs past Durotar and began his cross-country dying spree in earnest. The crocs (big, scary, level 11s) laughed at his stealth skills, and an Orc guard at a tower punished him most severely for even thinking about getting so near Durotar. But, a bit more dying later, and the Fen was in sight.

In sight, and encirled by levels 14 to 16. Another death, and Silvester was in the Fen, but everywhere he stood, he was put into combat either by a sludge on the Fen floor, or a Goblin on an over-head gangway. While they didn't come get him, being in combact wouldn't let him fish, either. At last he found the "sweet spot" at the base of a semi-submerged girder.

The drop rate on the bottle is apparently %0.02, and after three hours and packs crammed with oily fish, wagonwheels and engineering components, no bottle. Silvester is now resigned to living like a hermit in the middle of the Fen, straining its waters through a sock, and eating oil-covered fish. He swears he won't leave without the bottle.

If you should happen to reside on Wildhammer (EU) and have a toon above level 7, please stop by. (The mechanical squirrel he took for companionship rusted solid, as there was only room for Silvester in the "sweet spot" and it had to tread water until it seized.) Bring fresh water and clean socks, if you can. And maybe a harmonica.
