[Fishing] Cataclysm: Potential Extinction? and Bucket Lists

I was fishing for the Darkwood Pole today, and reading the page on it, I came across this post by Stormbear about pre-Cataclysm bucket lists, and it tweaked my concerns about the Cataclysm changes.

This pole is on my pre-cata bucket list. I already have the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole, Bone Fishing Pole and the Jeweled Fishing Pole, I just want to make sure I have all of the poles available in the old game before that angry death wingy thing ruins our day.

So far, the changes are speculative: from drastic zone and level changes to migrating fish-loot tables to more appropriate zones. I hope it's the latter, but I fear the former.

If fish and loot starts disappearing with the Cataclysm changes, what are the items that you still haven't caught but want to?

On my bucket list, and ripe for extinction are:

    • Mechbuilder's Overalls, the rarer, brown "hip-waders." With Gnomeregan changing during pre-Cataclysm, these pants may not be available if the original instance disappears.
    • The Steelscale Crushfish, is definitely my white-whale. I've been trying for this one since BC and it's always eluded me. Will the flooding of Menethil Harbour kill any chance of fishing it up there?
    • And more of a dream than an attainable goal, I've always wanted to see Maws, the giant shark that was part of the ridiculously long Ahn'Quiraj opening quest. Once Azshara is changed, that line will be gone forever.

What is on your bucket lists, fishers?

One thing almost guaranteed to disappear is the Blump Family Fishing Pole

Blizzard have said that the Gnomeregan instance isn't being removed.

As for the Steelscale Crushfish, the level of Wetlands has not changed, just more water, I don't see how more water would make blizzard remove a fish from the loot table.

True, except that the level of the instance, and the loot contained in it, may still be changed.

    **SPOLIER ALERT**

Take a look at Stormwind Stockades for an example (though I don't think the changes will be as drastic). That said, the Gnome starting area is apparently now taking part within a part of Gnomeregan (maybe phased, though, we don't know).

This also isn't guaranteed - in order to enable flying in Azeroth, they've essentially had to rebuild the entire 2 continents - and we have no guarantee that the loot tables would be transferred across from the "old" body of water to the "new" intact and unchanged.

NOTE: This sounds like a terribly negative and deconstructive reply - please take no offence, it's not intended to be - I'm just hilighting possible reasons that I think can contribute to these items no longer being in game - it's not intended to disrespect or knock your opinions, Kiingy!

Only the surface of Gnomeregan is being retaken, blizzard have said the instance will still be there unchanged.

Fish in zones are based on the zones level.
There is no reason to remove loot simply because of the addition of more water.

If the zones level changes then maybe we could lose it.
