[Fishing] Coralshell Turtle, a mount?

  1. Elorwyn <Angler>, 10 months ago:

Hi all, just registered to post I just caught it on the PTR after about.. 100 successful catches, maxed fishing skill w/ hat lure(+75) and the tuskarr fishing pole. It looks -exactly- like the TCG turtle, no difference whatsoever, swim speed of 60% according to the buff, normal run speed on land (but bother are affected by crusader aura. It's cute, maybe RNG just favored me but I don't think it'll be that hard for anyone to get.

PS: I was fishing on the icecaps outside of Borean Tundra.. the Forgotten Sea I think? Anyway it was a cuttlefish school.

Thats a bit disappointing, guess it IS going to be just another one of those mounts that you only sit on in dalaran when u are AFK. Unless they change it before live, which seems doubtful. Can you post a screenshot if possible? Especially of the actual item

Hey guys been reading these forums and looking on this website for advise on fishing for awhile now but finally registered. I was on the PTR today and caught the Sea Turtle so I decided to provide a screen shot of the mount and stuff for you guys.

I caught the sea turtle in Grizzly Hills from a school of Glacial Salmon on the US PVE PTR server.

Edit: On the tooltip it says "Swim Speed Increased by 60%"

Thanks Darthnublar and Elorwyn! Darthnublar: Intrigued to know how long it took to catch? I've done about 5000 pool casts so far, and not gained the turtle.

    Late Breaking Fishing News....!

With the mounts being able to swim in the new patch is it even worth it?

And about the mount changes can you swim under water with your mount or just at the surface?

  7. C Rage <Salty>, 10 months ago:

Being mounted, on a normal mount, and swimming gives no bonus over normal swim speed. It is only really beneficial for short river crossings.

The Sea Turtle is like Aquatic form, Glyphed Water Breathing, or Hook of the Master Angler, It gives a bonus to your swim speed.

And yes, last time I checked you can drive while on mounts.

  8. Darthnublar <Salty>, 10 months ago:

Took me about 200 catches, probably just luck I think. You can swim under water with mounts and with the Sea Turtle, but you going to need Water Breathing if you wanna swim into deep water.

  9. Cozmic <Salty>, 10 months ago:

Oh o.k. that clears things up.

Seems like it's worth it for long swims plus something to keep me busy to fish for.

  10. toki <Angler>, 10 months ago:

I have created a thread in the test realm forums requesting the Sea Turtle be a 100% mount both in land and water. However, the battle.net merge is keeping me from posting ("your account is no longer active" LIES!!!), so I request help in bumpage so such a cool new mount isn't left to only be seen on the bank steps of Dalaran.

So if this is caught from the northrend pools, and you can go to northrend at any level, and you'll be able to cast into any water, does this mean that you could catch this mount on a lower level alt by braving the creatures of northrend to fish in the pools? Assuming you survive with the gigantic aggro radius you'll have.

You can catch it at any level, but it requires Riding 75 to learn, which is the level 60 riding skill. So there's not a big reason to run your level 30 characters out to Northrend, unless you want it to sit in the bank.

Uhm, Riding 75 is the one you learn at level 30 ;) Have fun levelling Fishing to an appropriate level, though.

I think the best spot at level 30 is The Frozen Sea (near Borean Tundra): Self-contained set of pools, with no hostile creatures. Alliance can reach it easily by jumping off the boat the moment it zones in from Stormwind. Horde will take a few deaths getting out of Warsong Hold, but it should still be possible.

why anyone would want this lower than lvl 80 baffles me, it moves slower than any other epic, and its only use is sitting on dalaran bank steps

That said, when 3.1 comes out i'm still going to non stop fish until i get it :P

Those are all the reasons WHY you want one at level 30 since it only requires riding 75.

    :-)

Wanted to post a quick update in the latest PTR built today the Sea Turtle's color was changed and now has a different skin than the TCG one. Picture in the following link: http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/7904/seaturtle2.jpg

Posted the Tooltip up top so others can see that it is 60% swim speed but normal walking/running speed when on land. We need to get them to make it 100% swim speed!!

  18. C Rage <Salty>, 10 months ago:

I'm a bit disappointed in the turtle's speed thus far.

    After swimming around with DarthT...

It just barely outpaces the Hook of the Master Angler. The turtle is maybe five or so percent faster?

Let's not even bring up water walking, the turtle is just blown out of the water there.

  19. el <Nat Pagle's Love Child>, 10 months ago:

Thanks for the update. Does it have any other benefits over regular swimming (or trinkets like the Hook)? For example, people often ask whether one can fish from it - I can only assume not.

  20. Gihelle <Salty>, 10 months ago:

This is going to be another One That Didn't Get Away *not really excited* but I will get it!

@ El: What about Lake Kum'uya in Borean Tundra? It has a few mobs, but these are a non-issue for 80s and it's a really small area with 2-3 pools spawned anytime. Although I can see your point by fishing hidden in The Frozen Sea, I think that's a good point as well.

Also, a line of thought: There's a minor Warlock Glyph, the Unending Breath one, that increases the swim speed of people with the buff by 20%. Maybe you should compare that with the hook and a standard 100% mount with water walking?

Also, they should either make the mount 100% speed on water or let you fish while riding it. We can only hope.
