[General] Danger of deleting WTF (and cache?) files

  1. By Kylkiluut <Community Organizer> 3 months ago

Because I was having 'issues' with some alts, I deleted the wtf folder and my cache files. This was a 'good' thing because it solved my problem with some of my alts crashing when I loaded them.

    However...

I lost all of my Fishing Buddy history. :(

Not a disaster but certainly an inconvenience.

Hmm... perhaps the files are still loaded in the 'recycled' bin but then I've already started 'new' data and I probably don't want to go to the trouble of merging them (if it is even possible).

    Anyway, fishers beware...

The WTF folder stores all the saved variables files for all your addons. If you ever want to save them and delete the rest you can just pull the ones you want to save and then put them back. In this case you're looking for 'FishingBuddy.lua'.
If you want to save the locations and settings for the tracking frame also save 'FB_TrackingFrame.lua'.

BTW, I was just reading in the comments on Fishing Buddy -
    http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/1531/

That it's possible to edit your FishingBuddy.lua to add in the sharpened hooks, so fishing buddy will apply them.
