    I take that back.Within the first ten minutes of the tournament I caught to of the queen fish. One pool after another and around the 38 min mark I caught a Rockhide strongfish for the rare achievement then moved to a pool by the little bridge near booty bay and caught another one! I dont know what to do with them really as Id like to run around duel wielding fish but its not really a good weapon at level 71 :p As long as Im in stranglethorn Im going to try to solo the deadliest catch.

    Well, I know where I'M fishing when I get in from work. Don't know how I missed this thread for so long. I really hope the fishing gods haven't taken back their good graces just yet. This Gnome never seems to catch the lucky breaks.

    I must be one of the odd ones out - I've been trying to catch this one for the last few days, but no luck after more than 1500 catches from pools. Before I started, I caught my Turtle in very few casts from a Northern Salmon school, so I know I have the potential to be a lucky bastard, but the Dark Herring must be sort of a blind spot.

    Just in case, I'll make another spirited effort tonight. Tomorrow's 3.1.1a patch, and who knows what changes they'll make.

    When I found out about this apparently increased drop rate, I decided to give it a try in the howling fjord. And voilà, in about 300 casts a dark herring came seeking my life. With these confirmations building up it's beginning to look like the droprate is indeed a lot higher than before. On a side note, I was not on any fishing related quest that could perhaps be affecting this, like the crocolisks in the city quest increased the droprate for old crafty a while back. Of course, the increased droprate for the dark herring could also be intended. I wouldn't be surprised, the 'The one that didn't get away' achievement can be very frustrating to get and they might have done something about it.

    About tomorrow's patch, I'm doubtful that it will 'fix' anything about the droprate for two reasons: Blizzard can control drop rates server side, so a client side patch wouldn't be necessary, and they already stated the only thing changing will be a tooltip for exorcism.

    Anyway, this got me the Salty title and I'm very happy with it.

    after i read about this possible bug the other day, i went home after lunch (after the most recent update) to fish in fangtooth herring pools and fished up the dark herring in 25 casts (woot!).

    dunno if it's the bug or if my time had finally come. prior to my catch i had been fishing in the general waters of howling fjord - 4000 casts and nothing...

    After reading this forum just an hour ago, and after 159 casts, I am a possessor of the dark herring and thus the one that didn't get away achievement,
    Just thought I would inform how many casts it took me.

    I also caught the dustbringer at around 70 casts so I am realy happy now :D

    All I know is that I'm about 2kish casts into trying for my sea turtle and I just fished up my 5th dark herring. Kinda frustrating...

    I've been periodically fishing in HF for the turtle since 3.1 and have neither said turtle or the herring (~1000 casts).

    Finally got the Herring today, on my 2nd cast of the day (!). Been trying for a while, and totaled over 2000 casts before I struck gold. Still, the feeling of getting yet another fishing achievement makes it all worthwhile :)

    I finally got my Dark Herring today, after about 6 pools in Howling Fjord. I've been doing fishing dailies ever since 3.1, and also been hitting random pools just hoping.

    I'm a short ZG run shy of my Salty title now, and I already have the lure!

    today: 150catches and 1 dark herring

    Caught Dark Herring a couple of weeks ago for my achievment.
    Last night i fished up 2 in 2 casts. Wish I had the same luck with the Turtle and Rat :(

    ok, after 50 casts into lake near Camp Winterhoof ive got the herring, and The Salty title!
