[Contests] Doing STV for the fun of it.

  1. Rigami <Angler>, 2 months ago:

I (technically) won the third time STV. I got the 40 fish, opened the window and was at the point where all I had to do was to click complete quest, instead I started a movie, typed in "I won" and as I clicked enter someone won. Looking back at the movie they were 3-4 seconds behind me.

Still was fun. :) Anyone else do this?

I've done something like that. I've won the fishing extravaganza 6 times. I have 1 fishing pole and 5 hooks of the master angler. People on my server are starting to get upset with me so the last couple times that I *won* I got my 40 fish, hearthed to Booty Bay, and just stood by the spot to turn it in. I say in general chat that I've got my fish and I wait for the next person to turn it in. (My record time for winning is 12 mins and each time i did this i got it about 15 mins) I decided that it's fair for me to wait there for about another 3 to 5 mins for another winner. If someone comes within the next 3 to 5 mins i let them take it, if not i turn it it. I did this 3 times. The first 2 times someone else got it and the 3rd time i turned it in after waiting 5 minutes. Tell me what you think. Does this sound fair?

Not really because you have everything you could get. Sounds like you are feeding a fishing ego. Step aside and let people who are doing their best they can win. I have more respect for fishermen who are part of the community that fishermen who are constant "winners".

To be honest I totally don't understand why on earth would you be doing this for a reason other than ego-bloating.

What ticks me off about this idea is not even the mentioned boasting in /1, but the fact that you pointlessly take pools and thus make the competition harder for all people who are trying their best to win because they actually need it.

I do it because it a challenge. Win once, it could be a fluke. Twice a bit more skill wise. If you can beat everyone constantly (even if you don't hand in) then it shows your the best. Which is what the competition is to show.

As for stealing pools. sorry but thats is bs. You really want to win you should be scouting out well in advance so that you don't share pools.

I will certainly continue to do it until I get salty. But won't be handing in the fish.

I also fish the tourney for the challenge. 6 wins here as well, damn near had a 7th last sunday (would have been 2 weeks in a row, too) only to be robbed at the turnin, 2 ret pallies waiting outside the inn, I assume friends of the alliance druid that turned it in seconds later to win it. Frustrating, but to be expected on a PvP server.

I hear where you're coming from but I too am a multiple tournament winner. For me the tournament is the ultimate and some may argue ONLY challenge in fishing. It's how you seperate the fisherboys from the fishermen. Now if I was out there having people stand in pools, or having a bodyguard (i actually wear overalls), I could see how people would be getting upset. That being said, everyone has the same chance at winning as I do and if you want to be considered the best you gotta beat the best!

I've won three times on my server--twice with my main, and once with a DK. You're right about the fun of the challenge. I have to keep myself away from the tourney these days or else I'll be tempted to try to win again.

I have 4 wins, but have never more than twice on a single character. I currently have 3 saltys, and that's probably the way it's going to stay due to Blizzard's decision to mess up the game this upcoming expack.
