I think it's a moot point. I haven't heard any intentions on Blizzard's part of changing the fishing meta-achievement in any way.
[Contests] Extravaganza in Salty achievement?

Just need the fishing extravaganza and The Lurker for 'Salty'. Never done the contest before but might give it a go this weekend. :)
- Character: Avana (EU-Turalyon-H).
- Aquarium: Away, Coin Master, and 4 more...
Lupusdupus <Angler>, 10 months ago:
I don't think it should be removed, even though I'll never get it. I don't live at home on weekends, and haven't for 6 months now so I've only ever taken part in the contest 3 times. My experience of it is a lot of stress, angry people and cheating tbh. But it is an achievement to win and it's not easy to do. So let the achievement keep it, means the title remains rare.
I do however think a title should be added for fishing that doesn't include the extravaganza though. Just so people keen on fishing can represent without needing the contest win.
- Character: Lupusdupus (EU-Terenas).
- Aquarium: Crawdad, Crocolisk, Sea Turtle.

Even though I'll probably never see this achievement, I don't object to it being included in the "Salty" title achievement. What bothers me about the fishing contest is simpler, and yet more complicated.
First, I'm tired of seeing the same five or six people win. I went to try the contest today, and had an incredibly difficult time. Every node I stopped at someone came along to fish with me. Most of these people had fishing gear that indicated they'd won before. There's no reason for that, not really. It's people being obnoxious because they can. So I think that once you win, that's it, you should be allowed to continue to compete. Or better yet, have a higher-level difficulty contest as people win the lower ones.
It'd also be a good idea to have the contest more than once a week. Not everyone can be there, and while nobody should win for free, I think everyone should have a chance to win. Having a second contest at other hours would help a lot, as well as making for more chances to win. Appeals to my sense of fair play, I guess.
Blizzard may not be saying they'll change things, but hey, it never hurts to make suggestions. Maybe they'll surprise us.
SlugSalter <Angler>, 10 months ago:
I too think it should be held more often. In all the months I've been fishing I've only once managed to get online at the same time as the contest, and then I tried to sign in only to find that my gamecard had ran out and there was only 15 minutes to go to the start. Bugger.

I believe that they should take it out i have done all of the fishing achievements and caught all the rare fish i could from doing the tournament and still have yet to succeed.
Kamaria <Salty>, 10 months ago:
Ah yes it may be difficult to win, all though I do not feel it should be removed from the achievement.
While it may be a very long if not impossible road for some, the rush you get upon finally doing it is all the more worth it in the end. http://fc03.deviantart.com/fs41/f/2009/025/6/9/For_The_Record_by_Vallie.swf- Character: Kamaria (US-Silvermoon).

Trann <Angler>, 10 months ago:
If they take the fishing tournament out of the meta, then it would go right back to having nobody on the server participating except a select few hardcore anglers.
Blizzard wants more participation, not less. Besides, getting the achievement is something to be proud of. Nothing worth doing is ever easy.
Just to note: I only need the contest to get the title, and unfortunately it won't be easy on my (pvp) server.

Truth is what made me really try for the title was the fact that the STV Fishing tourney was part of it. I like the idea of it being limited to 1 person per a week wins the tournament, but even that person still has to have their other achievements and rare fish caught to even get the title. I honestly wouldn't have bothered with the title if it was widely available. I like the idea of having a title that at most 52 people a year on each server can get... its probably much less then that though.
Maybe they could add another achievement and title that includes a few other achievements, like maybe the turtle, nothrend dailies, outland dailies, the rare fish, and all the pools. And make it give a title like Angular, or 'the Fisherman'. I could understand if they add a new achievement with a new title that is easier to get. But I don't think they should lessen the value of salty for those of us that did put in time/work (maybe luck) to get it.

Going to have to agree with above post. I feel like part of an elite few because of the Salty tag, would hate all that work for something so hard to get to become more common. I do think there should be other fishing titles though.
- Character: Rurrik (US-uldum).
- Aquarium: Salty, Away, and 8 more...
anakhahawk <Angler>, 10 months ago:
I believe the Salty achievement should be left as it is.
Be nice if there was a title for completing all the other fishing achievments though as I'll probably get those completed at some point =/
I only need the extravaganza for 'Salty' but am unlikely to ever win as I don't get to play this early on a Sunday due to family time. If i really wanted to push for it I guess i could skip a few sunday dinners to give it a shot :)
TBH theres too many people fishing since the new Dalaran dailies, fishing has lost some of its appeal and AH prices have bottomed out. Getting most of my fish back in the mail :( Are there more people trying for the title and entering the extravaganza since 3.1?- Character: Avana (EU-Turalyon-H).
- Aquarium: Away, Coin Master, and 4 more...
Wistala <Angler>, 10 months ago:
Leave the title as it is. Half the fun for me getting it was knowing how hard of a process it really would be.
Hamacus <Salty>, 9 months ago:
Well I jus got my Salty title yesterday and call it what you will but I agree with those that say keep "Salty" as it is. Was it easy? No but that makes it even sweeter. I do think they need to institute a one time win limit though. Lets be fair 52 week a year is a small enough window without those that have already won decreasing the window of opprotunity .
BTW thank you El and those that post here. Would have been even harder without your help...and yes I am Salty Ham. : )

The STV tourney needs overhauling if it wants my vote to remain in the criteria. Besides the time of day ....once a week ...there is also the repeat winners that suck up a win or two from those of us who are trying for Salty...and thats not just a win but that sucks up a week of those precious 52.
Open it up a little bit...dont get rid of it...just make it reasonable. By the way the average length of a tourney is 20 mins...give or take a minute. The "tourney" is not 2 hours long folks..not for the title.
jacobsod <Salty>, 8 months ago:
While I might agree on the limit winning to once idea (reward the pole and the trinket at the same time), it should remain once a week. Having a limited number of titles is what makes some of us work so hard for it. I wouldn't have probably tried so hard for the title if I saw hunderds of "salty" titles around.

Ok, this is slightly off-topic, but El, what would you think about giving forum members who have completed all the requirements for Salty but the Tournament recognition in our Aquariums? We could even have a forum title, Low Sodium! :)

After long thought I think that the title needs to have the extravaganza in it. I have a red proto drake, I worked for about a week for it in my full t7.5 and now kids go and overpower it, like the drake titles with t8.5. They think they are good, but in reality they just Op'ed an instance. So what I might be able to get a rare in one cast or maby get lucky on the turtle. The STV fishing is what makes this a different kind of achievement. Who cares if its hard, thats the point. Suck it up. I do feel pity for the Sunday workers, maby they can add a thursday STV or something for about month
Coldgreentea <Angler>, 7 months ago:
Well, let me first add that I love fishing. But, I am not the greatest at it and my luck with fishing is not so good. I would love to get the salty title for purely showing that you love to fish. But I cannot beat the STV tournament. On a pvp server, it is nearely impossible, unless you are really geared, and chances are, you have your fishing gear on. On a normal server, it is easier, but some people can fish up all of the fish in literally minutes.....I think that there should be a seperate title like Master Angler, or Super Salty, or "<Name> Of the Sea". That would be a reward for winning the STV contest, and just the normal Salty for those who just love to fish, but arnt necessarily good or anything.

I would like to add to this topic. In my case it was almost all pure luck.
I don't have time to raid or play in large chunks so fishing has become my favorite past time in WoW. I started fishing and getting the first few easy acheivements. I figured I'd look into getting the title and knew I'd have to win that contest... I was intimidated because I knew nothing about it.
First attempt: I showed up 30 minutes late... didn't even know I was suppose to catch the tasty fish. Eh lets just say I didn't win :)
Second attempt: I was a few minutes late still but knew what to do and got good practice at finding spots and planning out my strategy.
Third attempt: I was in BB and got to fishing at the sound of the starting gun. I'm a DK so path of frost helps immensely. That plus pale horse might borderline be OP. Water walking in any form is important as you can go straight from A to B in most cases. I went up the coast from BB hitting every pool I could. It got crowded in the south so I went past GG and picked up there.
I hit a string of getting oily blackmouth and was getting frustrated. My luck finally turned and I hit 10 tasty fish in a row to get my 40.
Once I hit 40 fish my heart was pounding, it was about 20 minutes in. I hadn't seen an announcement but to my dismay I had NOT set my hearth to BB.
I haul butt to GG and fly to BB the whole time thinking "go go go go you damn wyvern!". I landed and immediately jumped down. The little goblin had a blue ? over his head. /gasp I saw the contest had not been won! I didn't even look at the reward because a human pally was walking up. I wasn't about to let someone take it from under me! I didn't care what I got as long as I won the contest! It was mine! What a rush.
I can completely understand the frustration of losing this thing repeatedly. I honestly thought it'd take weeks/months.
I personally feel a bit vindicated since the ONLY thing that kept me from the Hallowed title was that #%#@$ squashling pet (I could have even ninja'd the pet twice but I'm above that :). And hey, I have to wait a whole year to try that again. :-o
This site is awesome by the way!
