I sure hope it is; I've already asked for that day off from work, and I plan to buy the game at midnight and start pumping up my fishing immediately so that I can get a "first on server" feat.
Pretty sure it still is. I think el said so in the forums, but of course it might have changed.
The realm firsts are still in the beta. They are feats of strength, so nobody can be sure they are in the live game until someone reaches 450, and the feat is awarded.
I believe you have to be within 1 minute of the first person, which does not give much of a margin. If other anglers on your realm are attempting this, it will be essential to start the moment the servers come online. There will still be elements of luck and lag: Don't be surprised if at skill 448, someone else gets it. As I recall, these are announced server-wide.
Best strategy will be to travel to Northrend, train, then hearth back to an existing city in Azeroth to fish. The old world should be less likely to lag (or crash) than Northrend. Plus by fishing in a city you will build up a small rested bonus.
this question is for anyone who has played the beta:
is the grand master fishing taught by a book or a trainer?
from el's post it looks like trainer, but if it is from a book, like 375 training, will we be able to level past 300 without the expansion?
to my knowledge the trainers will sell the master fishing book for 1g and the grand master for 35 if i read that right, but you can get them both from the new trainers....
am i right?
and i just have to say WOW....El responded in one fo my posts....im honored...

Fishing trainers:
Just to clarify the 300+ training: The Master-rank book can still be purchased as before, for 5g, with a level 45 minimum. Master fishing can also be trained in Northrend, for 1g with no level restriction. You need both expansions to visit Northrend. So in practice, it looks like 450 fishing can be achieved at level 35, if you have both expansions.
