Just did the worlds largest mudfish quest again today.
Was working with 402 fishing +75 lure and didn't catch it for the duration of the lure. ranked up to a +100 bringing my fishing to 502 and got it straight away.. possibably something in that?

Keep in mind that your bobber has to be in an area designated as "lake xxx" or "xxx lake", so if you're near a borderline, you might be casting outside the "lake" zone.
You must be level 70 to obtain any of the daily quests, fishing and cooking included.
The quest rewards are probably all BoP so only the character doing the quest can use them. The fact that some of the items are lower level is probably for disenchanting purposes.
I must be missing something. I can't seem to find Old Man Barlo. I've been all around the lake and he just isn't there. Am I supposed to do something first before he will appear?
I'm at the Bait Bandits quest today, and it proved to be really frustrating.
Having to wait on the lure on the exact last second sucks, and it's not a 100% drop. Did over 50 casts with 510 skill with no luck.

I have the sneaking suspicion that you're not on the test realm. Old Man Barlo will be available after the 2.4 patch, which (afaik) hasn't been given an official release date yet.
On the test realm, he's pretty easy to find, as he'll show up as a blue "!" on your minimap. He's on the shore of Slimyr Lake, pretty close to Shattrath.
Does the new hat basically work as an unending supply of +75 lures? If so then does that mean that anybody in the 425+ club can fish everywhere without the need for any extra lures? Highest required skill to avoid getaways everywhere is 500, right?
500 indeed.
I haven't got it yet (but I got 50+ +100 lures on PTR lol... doesn't matter a lot since I got an Engineer alt :/), but I do believe you won't need lures anymore.
So I got Muckbreath the baby pet Crockolisk this morning.
There's a picture of him here...

So far the rewards I've gotten from the daily are...
51 Sharpened Fishhooks
5 Elixers of Water Walking
2 Gold Wedding Bands
1 Ancient Coin
2 Razor Sharp Filet Knife
8 Jaggal Pearls
1 Weather Beaten Fishing Hat
1 Muckbreath's Bucket
1 Recipe Captain Rumsey's Lager
I was lucky enough to get 2 Snarly pets the other day (on 2 different characters), and I uploaded a video of one. He makes some funny noises.

Just did the Bait Bandits quest for the Blackfin Darter. It is a little tricky, but counting to 3 or 4 (depending on how fast you count) after the bobber jumps make this easier.
Finally, a fishing quest with RL fishing skill!!!
I've read about "waiting a while after the bobber splashes" a few times now, but so far haven't been able to detect any tangible difference in the speed at which fish are caught. The process of catching quest fish is highly random, which makes it very hard to prove anything. Anyone else looked at this?
Just got Bait Bandits again. Cast my line, and by reflex, clicked the mouse as soon as the bobber jumped. Who says getting fishing to 375 doesn't create muscle memory. Caught the Black Darter on the first try!!!!
I noticed with this quest that the fishing timer goes to end alot more the usual. When I clicked the bobber "early" (see above), the timer was NOT near the end.
So I don't know if the "waiting a couple of seconds" only applies when the fishing timer is near the end or what. I will pay more attention to this in the future.
Just completed Crocolisks in the City.
Got another valuable trash item: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34829
sells for 11G to the vendor
I have a little information on the Bait Bandits quest. It may be nothing. One time, I clicked the bobber after a splash without waiting and got the message "No fish are hooked." It could have been the Blackfin Darter getting away, but it also could have been lag.
I'd be interested in seeing if anyone else has had this happen while on the Bait Bandits quest.
Edit: see my follow up to this post here. This error was not able to be replicated.
Pretty late reply to the post about getting from the Blood Elf starting area to the new zone. Yes, there is fatigue water, but if you roll a priest, you can heal yourself through it, although you may die once in the attempt. I tried a Paladin too, and didn't make it and died many times.
On a fishing note, got Crocolisks in the City. Very easy. Took like 4 casts. With the ability to do 25 dailies in 2.4, there seems not to be a reason to do the fishing and cooking quests once you get all the leet rewards. The actual money may be less, but the "extra" rewards make up for it.
Making 35g per quest if you get lucky with an Ancient Coin = win
That is exactly what I am saying. I have gotten rusted fish hooks and shark tooth and spyglass and they all sell for over 1g per, making these quests WAY better than most, if you figure money/time invested.
I did the Shrimp one today, and if not for the nasty lag (they rebooted the PTR it was so bad), the quest would have taken all of six minutes.
World's Largest Mudfish.. two casts...Some fishing hooks and a Rusted lock.
BTW, since I found this site, I am a much happier angler. I let my guildie fishing friends know about it, so I hope they join and contribute.
Bait Bandits again. I am trying to figure out whether waiting before clicking has any effect. So, 10 casts, click right after the bobber jumps, all Barbed Gill Trout. Then I tried counting to three as soon as the bobber jumped and I caught the Black Darter on the third try.
Seven gold and change plus Razor Sharp Fillet Knife.
