Couldn't find anything using Search, so I suspect this topic has not been beaten to death. (Pun intended.) But I've been thinking about fishing poles as weapons.
Now, it's firmly established that your "weapon skill" for wielding a rod and reel is equal to your Fishing skill. It's even possible that you can get a bonus by attaching a lure, which is just insane. And I would imagine that most of us have beaten a monster to death with a pole, either by accident or on purpose. (Last year on the July 2nd Independence day celebration-- check your American history, gang-- I started the sport of Fish Fencing, which has caught on in a modest way.)
But what about using a pole as your main weapon? My Feral Druid uses the Bone Fishing Pole. It has that very nice shadow protection, which translates; and it has a +1603 Attack Power when in a transformed state.
I mean, whoa. +1603? The rep reward staff from the Kirin Tor (requiring Exalted and level 80) only has +1601. Admittedly, it also has some stat bonuses and can be enchanted (poles can't, I've tried) but this pole you could theoretically get at level 70. (You'll need a cold-weather flying mount to get into Dalaran, but if you have a level 80 you can buy up several copies of an accountbound book which teaches that. Otherwise, you need to be 74, or 73 as a Mage.)
Flutterby Dahner, my Druidess, was level 77 when she got it, and it trashes other weapons of her current level. I haven't yet gotten the Sailor Moon fishing pole (the Jeweled one), so I can't compare it, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
