Everytime I equip my fishing pole it is highlighted in green in my hot key box. It wont let me fish anywhere i try. Why??? Am I not fishing in the right area.

i think you need to use your "fishing" ability in the general ability tab. clicking on your pole is not enough

It's possible you had been using an add-on to fish via clicking the "fishing pole" in your hot keys. As such, it is additionally possible that said hypothetical add-on is no longer functioning.
Cross-wise, it is possible that said add-on is still functioning, but you dragged your fishing pole directly to a hot-key slot. When a piece of equipment is hot-keyed, you equip it when you hit said key. This is why you are not casting your line, you are equipping the fishing pole.
As Katura suggests, you should drag your fishing ability from your spell-book to your hot-keys. This should rectify the problem.
