    The fishing waters of the underbelly are all the same. You got lucky, getting it in 5 casts. Don't tell someone they're doing something wrong because the RNG favors you over someone else. And as long as you aren't having any getaways, your fishing gear makes no difference.

    Geez! The blasted RNG has me blacklisted, apparently. Luckily, I was able to outlast the infernal software and finally caught ratty a few minutes ago.

    My advice too. I got mine this morning in the second of 2 sessions ~ 3 hours of fishing. I've spent more time going after Old Crafty and Ironjaw and still have neither :-(.

    Finally got my rat this evening after 10 minutes of fishing off the dock in the sewer, before then had spent around 2hrs without luck.

    Got old Ironjaw much faster (10 casts) compared to around 500 for the rat.

    I actually do "think I smell a giant rat." From what I have read I must be having truly bad luck catching this fish... or someone at Blizzard hates me... :P

    I have the hat from the shattrath fishing daily, and the kalu'ak rod. So with my skill maxed out and hat and rod equipped and using the lures from the hat my fishing skill has been at 560 for all these catches too....

    I just read Pwnica's comment from 3 months ago and don't feel "quite" so bad now... said it the comment that it took him 7154 casts to get it.

    Without thinking (since I'm used to catching thousands of fish with no success), I took a step backward and lost the rat.

    Blizzard won't give him back to me. They won't tell me why, even after opening 2 GM tickets. What do you guys think I should do? :(

    If your read through some threads many people have been in your situation. I don't believe there is anything you can do besides start fishing again. Sorry about your luck.

    I know it doesn't help you now, but supposedly in the notes for this patch it says they are removing the Confirmation window for BoP fishing - so that can never happen again. Unfortunately, too late for you :[

    I have been fishing for two weeks total (skilling up from ZERO) and I caught the sewer rat in less than two hours- the very day after I caught the sea turtle mount.

    In these two weeks I have: Skilled to max from zero.
    Caught the sea turtle
    Caught the sewer rat
    Became a "Coin Master"
    & Caught two Dark Herrings!

    And I am still only at 2800 fish total (6000 and a bit with junk though, but again, that was leveling from nothing)

    Tomorrow I start on Mr Pinchy. I expect this to be a far longer grind!

    Caught everything on this list (2 frostweave bags full)

    Crystal Vial
    Drowned Rat
    Empty Vial

    Leaded Vial
    Magic Eater
    Partially Eaten Fish
    Sewer Carp

    But NOT the Giant Sewer Rat :(

    After about 600 casts at Cantrips and Crows, I switched to Black Market and got him after maybe 50 (before I downloaded Fishing Buddy so no stats).

    I posted about a month ago with stats. I had to reload WoW last week and lost my fishing buddy stats in the process. But I finally caught the sewer rat about 5 minutes ago doing the fishing daily. I had quit trying to farm him and decided I would just do the dailies and if I got him ...cool. After doing the jewel of the sewer daily about a dozen times in the last month I got him. So, it took me around 3250 casts at the cantrips and crows area to get it.
