[Fishing] Guide Suggestion

    I was reading through your fishing guides, which are very good by the way, and thought I might make a suggestion. You suggest using lures in several areas of the guides, but you didn’t mention the new sharpened fish hooks. These might be worth mentioning as I’ve found, on my server at least, that they usually sell very cheap in the auction house. I’ve often seen them selling for a single gold per stack of twenty. I personally have eight extra stacks of hooks in my bank, in addition to one or two stacks on each of my four level 70 characters. If the fishing quest remains popular and the “drop rate” remains the same the sharpened fish hooks may be a good resource for up and coming fisher folk.

    The guides are based around being able to exceed your personal skill by about 100. As recommended, a decent pole and up to +75 lures. That's because I can be absolutely certain those items will be available.

    While auction houses on mature realms are awash with these lures now, they might not be in the future: I imagine the situation will be different once all the 70s go to Northrend. And on new and under-populated realms, the auction house can be an entirely different market.

    (Ok, you could argue that invalidates the entire "gold" guide too, and you'd probably be right.)

    What's really needed is a customisable system that makes recommendations based on each individual's current skill levels, gear, whether they're likely to get ganked, and so on.

    Your right of course, the availability of sharpened fish hooks on the AH will differ from realm to realm. My alliance characters are on Blackhand, which was one of the servers available on day one. So it’s about as mature as a realm can get. And using vendor lures is best for a guide. But as someone who used to spend a lot of time farming tin to make the engineering equivalent, I hate to see all those hooks go to waste. *smiles*

    I tried selling mine for a gold appease when I got my first extra stack. But even in stacks of five they didn’t sell. And that was because the price on them plummeted very quickly on Blackhand. I’ll have to try to sell my extras again at some point. But I’m kind of enjoying the fact that I don’t have to worry about making more. Thus I don’t have to mentally cringe each time I use one.

    I have a snatch price of 5s on my server, lowered from 7.50s since I started getting way too many of them. I'm stocking up for leveling fishing once WLK comes out.

    I expect we'll see these lures in the AH even after WLK since people will still be doing the fishing quest for the gear. I certainly will be if I don't get that darn hat before it comes out...
