[Fishing] High end angling for a low level character?

  1. Davidius <Angler>, 1 year ago:

I have managed to follow the fantastic Horde fishing-cooking guide and my level 14 character is now a Master Cook (289) and Master Fisherman (302). It has involved a lot of swimming, exploring, dying etc. Wreckage pools have provided the financing for it so far.

However, I seem to have reached the point where I can't really progress the cooking side of it. At such a low level it is impossible to get out of the keep in Northrend, and I can't get to Outland at all (AFAIK). I am down to 'green' recipes for the fish.

Is there anywhere I can realistically get recipes and fish at 300+ skill?

I can't level the character up, because he is part of a weekly gaming group, and the fishing is some fun on the side.

I assume you've managed to get the Lobster Stew-level recipes (if not, they shouldn't be impossible at that level as Horde, although you'll die a few times in Feralas). Cook those until 320 (right into the green, so expect to spend a lot of time in Azshara), then find a mage to portal you to Shattrath (asking in city chat normally works). From the barmaid in the inn, train Stewed Trout. Then head just outside Shattrath to the very small pond next to the graveyard. That will carry you through to 350 (again, right into the green), at which point you can start on the Northrend recipes. You can fish safely at Vengence Landing (Howling Fjord).

That isn't recommended: It is better to buy the recipes at auction, or ask someone else to buy them for you. But it should allow you progress with just one portal. Keep in mind that the highest cooking you can reach (without Dalaran dailies) is 425.

    Brilliant, thank you.

Just a note: If you wanted to you could get to Outlands, just not through the dark Portal.
Either get a warlock to summon you there or a Mage to port you to Shat (or Dal and use the perma port to Shatt)

If you want some fishing fun, get a port/summon to Dal, and level ya fishing via the fountain there to get the achievement at the same time.

Not that it's really needed as you can max fishing out in Azeorth, and as El said you can't max cooking out without the recipes from the Cooking Daily chap.
Although as you can buy Waterlogged Recipes off the AH, as soon as you hit Lv70, you could speed level the remaining few points without leaving Dal.

Thanks for the suggestions. I managed to get to Feralas on foot without dying too many times. The Lobsters from Azshara got me up to 325 cooking skill.

I then got my 'Grand Master' Fisherman from Vengence Landing (very easy to get to for low level players, but completely useless without 350 cooking ability there!)

I am now trying to get a mage to port me to Shattrath City.

I will take a look at Dalaran next I hope.

I had to offer 5 gold to a Mage to get the portal, in case anyone else is thinking of doing this.

But, it got me up to 351 cooking skill and now I am off to Vengence landing to get Grand Master in cookery.

Amusingly I caught a Dark Herring, which of course I can't possibly use for another 64 levels or so... so that is getting auctioned for 200 gold (which is the recommended amount I believe).
