[Contests] How I won Kaluak today (luck included)

    Just FYI: I only tried the Derby twice, both in the same location. Today, to my surprise, I won while fishing in the third fishing pool I tried in the Frozen Sea at coordinates Dragonblight (-312.6, -4340.4). I know the pools are random, but this is a place that at any given time I can see 3 - 5 fishing pools on my map (this one was a Moonglow Cuttlefish pool, some of the others are Deepsea Underbelly schools.) Bring plenty of Water Walking potions. I was fishing with a base skill of 450 +2 Gloves, Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat, Glow Worm, and Captain Rumsey's Lager (Total Skill of 567, some of the bonuses don't add to each other.) I won within 2 - 3 minutes, which I hear is typical. I hope this helps someone.

    So is it true that stacking fishing skill-items will increase the chance of catching rare fish?

    Where OP was fishing, yes, you need it. You need a minimum of about 550 skill to avoid miscasts.

    Random is random. I caught the sea turtle mount on the second cast on my DK. I believe all the stories here of people making thousands of casts without getting it.

    I don't think the location matters just so long as you're somewhere you can catch Pygmy Suckerfish.

    Skill doesn't matter if you are fishing in pools, irregardless of the location. As long as Pygmy's come up with fish you are in a good enough spot.

    Skill only matters for non pool fishing. I doubt you will win fishing in open water.

    What matters is that you are able to fish in 6 pools withinn 8 min.. max.. ^^

    after 4 tries I won the derby on my new toon... ;)

    I fished it up in pool nr 5 and won after 6 min 45 sec....(13 sec running in dala and delivering the shark)
