OK, but let's keep this among just us Anglin' forum users, eh? :)
I know a way you can sell the Weather-Beaten Journal to others.
Use one of your mid-level alts to fish Mirkfallon Lake for Watertight Trunks. But do NOT open them. After you get a few, send them to an alt who does NOT have the fishing skill. If you have autoloot ON, this alt will not be able to open the trunk if the trunk has the fishing journal in it!
If Autoloot is off and the fishing journal is present, he can loot all the stuff except the fishing journal which he cannot see. The trunk will NOT disappear after being looted.
You can sell the Watertight Trunk on the trade channel with a 'guarantee' that the fishing journal is in it. I sold one two days for 10g!
Here's a (large) pic of a recent expedition to Mirkfallon Lake: http://www.firish.com/WoW/Fishing1.jpg
I ended up with 12 trunks on this trip (!) but none of them turned out to have the journal. :( Very bad luck as think the rate is about 20-25% of a trunk having the journal.
By the way, all my alts are members of the Guild <Playing the Blues> (Alliance on The Venture Co and Ravenholdt, and Horde on Lightninghoof and Maelstrom). So if you are opposite faction and see me, don't gank!!!
Hey, we need a 'secret handshake' for Els Anglin members. Any ideas?

When I played, I rarely bothered other anglers. I would, on occasion, set up shop next to a lower level of the other faction. Doing so is simply something that would amuse me.

Ok, so not being able to "see" an item in the trunk...
Is that why every now and then I pull a trunk, "empty" the contents and it doesn't disappear automatically from my bags? Would that mean that there is a weather-beaten journal inside, but since I already have the fish finder, I can't see it? Would that mean that I could potentially send that "empty" trunk to my non-fishing alt, have him open it and see if the journal is inside? Just some thoughts...I guess there's only one way to find out, huh? Next time I have this happen, I will try it out and report my findings. TY BlueCross! :)

Yes, I believe that is exactly what is happening.
It's a bit thrilling to sell someone a trunk for 10g when you are not 100% sure that it contains the journal. :)
So far, it has been in there every time.

Thank you, thank you :)
And to think...I've "destroyed" 3 of them so far in my ignorance :(
Such is life. Thanks Kylkiluut

I wouldn't feel so bad; I only found out about this by accident when I sent an 'unlootable' trunk to an alt who could lockpick thinking lockpick might help. Turns out this alt had the fishing skill but no journal, and voila! ze leetle light bulb, she goes off!

Yup, I only discovered that when I sent one of these sticky chests to a random alt because I didn't have time to figure it out. She opened it and got the journal (and then felt compelled to take up fishing).

If you want to keep the book in the trunk, but check that the book is there (without risk of accidentally picking it up), you can send it to an alt. with the fishing ability but not the find fish skill.
Just make sure that the trunk is put into the last available slot in the backpack bags when the inventory is opened. When trying to open the trunk you will get the normal "inventory is full" message, but you will be able to see the book in the contents of the trunk. I have tested this.
I've found the the journal in Iron Mithril and Watertight trunks,, though it obviously does appear in others. I admit, I'm usually much too impatient (all the patience in the world for fishing though) and want to see what I have...
However if you don't know the fish finding skill and don't have a soulbound book in your current inventory (in the bank is fine) you can inspect the contents of the trunk without picking it up (eg shift right click if you have auto loot on) and see the book.
Also with the trunks being a lootable item, you can't auction the trunks. Upon pickup, the book becomes soulbound (I checked the last time). But keeping in the trunks, means you can put the [Weatherbound Journal] as a description up on the trade channel. Again, make sure you shift click to get the description rather than right click to pick up the item.
So you need to trade the trunks with other people which contain the book. Just make clear the book is in the trunk when you are selling.
Under 2.4 there isn't warning about binding either, so I lost yet another book to a mis-click.
