Just after a major patch is a good time to do "old" things. For 1-2 weeks players focus on the new patch content, and are more likely to ignore old content.
For example, I see this with the number of visitors to El's Anglin': Patch 3.1 had a lot of new fishing content, and for a week after the patch the number of visitors almost doubled. Patch 3.2 has no major fishing content, and the number of visitors has dropped by about a quarter. After a few weeks the numbers should level out again, although I guess it will be fairly quiet until the next expansion, when there will be more to discuss and read about again.

Lucky. On my server there was almost same activity as in the past and there was extra activity after the contest has ended. Every week after the contest I stay to fish for a chance to catch a rare fish, but this week there were about 10 people doing the same, while previous weeks I've met 1-2 people fishing there, mostly twinks, trying to get their hats.
