  1. aramuk <Salty>, 2 months ago:

    Win: oh yeah

    ■ Effective Fishing Skill (include bonuses from gear/lures): 450 (+125) Weather-beaten Fishing Hat lure and arcanite fishing pole from STV tournament. I had hook of the master angler equipped also this time.
    edit: eternium line on the fishing pole

    ■ Faction: Alliance

    ■Successful Casts (count up the non-Suckerfish from the start of the contest until the shark catch): 20

    ■ Pygmy Suckerfish Caught (from the start of the contest until the shark catch): 8

    ■ Where Shark Caught (pool/water type and zone): pool in a river close to cauldrdros isle

    ■ Turn-in Time (to Elder Clearwater): 14:05 (5 minutes)

    ■ Anything Unusual (for example, low level win or interesting strategy): got it from my third pool.

    First time I tried for this contest, I fished for 40 minutes without a shark on the borean tundra coast. This time (second attempt at the contest), it only took me 5 minutes.

    Can't wait for a new fishing contest;)

    It also gave me 3000 rep points with the kaluak

    * Win: Just won today!
    * Effective Fishing Skill: 450(+135) Weather-beaten hat, Kalua'k Fishing rod and Glow Worm lure
    * Faction: Alliance
    * Successful Casts: I want to say about ~21-24
    * Pygmy Suckerfish Caught: ~9-11
    * Where Shark Caught: Grizzly Hills in the rivers heading towards the lumber camp. Glacial Salmon pools
    * Turn-in Time (to Elder Clearwater): It was about 7minutes
    * Anything Unusual: Not really, I just fished stuff I need for Fish Feasts and didn't have much competition along the streams. It was about my 4th pool and it's how I earned my Salty title!

    I did use an Elixir of Water Walking, just because it makes it easier to get the best casting angle on some of the pools in the streams.

    - Win: Yes (2. January 2010)

    - Fishing Skill: Skill 450, Lure 100 (10 Min.), Pole with line 33 or 35 (shrug, not sure, I have both), Hat: thats in total around Skill 590.
    Used Water walking Potion.

    - Faction: Horde (hearthstone in the tavern, don't have the Ring from Kirin Tor)

    - I didn't count any fish or casts. From the 'winning-screenshot' I count 13 fish, 3 crystal water, 1 chest and 10 pygmy sucker fish.

    - Caught at: 'Frozen Sea' southeast of Unu'Pe. (Monsterbelly-Pool)

    - Turn-in Time: 14:07

    Unusual: I won, isn't that unusual enough. ;-)

  6. Feanor306 <Angler>, 2 months ago:

    Win : YES
    Effective Fishing Skill : Was about 390 at the time, used Bright bubbles(+75) and +5 fishing pole so i had 460 effective skill
    Faction : Alliance - Burning Legion EU 2nd(or 3rd) week after patch 3.3 on live realms
    Successful Casts : I fished 3 schools of Nettlefish in the River's Heart (Scholazar Basin), then I saw a school up the river that flows in the lake through a fountain, i think it's east from River's heart
    Pygmy Suckerfish Caught : 3-4
    Where Shark Caught : Scholazar Basin, School of Nettlefish close to River's heart
    Turn-in Time : 14:05-06 can't remember exactly

    Anything Unusual : I had no intention to participate in the contest whatsoever. I woke up that Saturday about 13:30, then logged in to wow . Around 13:55 I realized the contest was about to start so I instantly got a FP to River's heart just to try my luck. The contest started ~20 seconds before i landed, then i fished 2-3 schools of Nettlefish at the lake at River's heart, then i moved up to one of the rivers because i saw a school there and got the shark on the second cast in that school. HS-ed to Dalaran and won, took about 4-5 minutes total.

    Got the ring as a reward for my alts btw. :)

    * Win (yes/no)
    yes
    * Effective Fishing Skill (include bonuses from gear/lures)
    450+nats pole+lucky fishing hat+glove enchant+100 lure=588
    * Faction (Horde/Alliance)
    Alliance
    * Successful Casts (count up the non-Suckerfish from the start of the contest until the shark catch)
    aprox 19-21
    * Pygmy Suckerfish Caught (from the start of the contest until the shark catch)
    aprox 14-17
    * Where Shark Caught (pool/water type and zone)
    Veiled Sea, Borean Tundra, due south of Unu'pe
    * Turn-in Time (to Elder Clearwater)
    14:04. No more than 10 seconds in front of the next person.
    * Anything Unusual (for example, low level win or interesting strategy)
    I used elixer of water walking in an are that has approximately 4-7 schools within walking distance (no need to mount). I fished east to west and caught the shark on the 4th pool, probably the last fish in the pool. I believe all pools were moonglow schools. I did not have my video set to lowest level so hearthing took a while and scared me. I chose the boots now have 603 fishing skill w/ lure.

  8. MalFunction <Salty>, 2 months ago:

    ■Win: yes
    ■Effective Fishing Skill: 450 + hat (5) + pole (30) + line (5) + lure (75) = 565
    ■Faction: Alliance
    ■Successful Casts: about 15
    ■Pygmy Suckerfish Caught: about 10
    ■Where Shark Caught: inland pool, Herring pools, Howling Fjord
    ■Turn-in Time: <10 min (was 8-9 min)
    ■Anything Unusual: Was shocked to get the shark before the 10 min mark. I got it from a pool which I could only see halfway because it was on a sloping area of an inland stream. I dont think that has anything to do with the catch chance, but just some extra info.

    *Win - YES!!

    *Skill - 450 + Kalu'ak pole + hat lure + water walking elixir

    Faction - Alliance (hearth to Dal of course) - Winterhoof realm

    Casts - not sure, 4th or 5th school of Imperial Manta Rays

    Where - Howling Fjord coast south of Kalu'ak village

    Time - about 4 minutes in

    Anything unusual - I guess I would say that the water walking elixir is a MUST. I think 4 of the 5 schools I fished were not fishable from land.
    Got the ring to round out my BoA gear. :)
    Just have to fish in Orgrimmar and catch a rare left for the title!

    EDIT: 2/1/2010 ---- Got the Dark Herring this morning and the Salty title!!!!! Woot!

  13. wooderino <Angler>, 1 month ago:

    Just won today on Ner'Zhul (US). Usually a pretty crowded PVP server I was shocked to actually win after weeks of not seeing a shark even fishing to the 1 hour time limit. Here are my details:

    * Win (yes/no) - YES
    * Effective Fishing Skill (include bonuses from gear/lures) - 490, 450 skill + 40 from gear
    * Faction (Horde/Alliance) - ALLIANCE
    * Successful Casts (count up the non-Suckerfish from the start of the contest until the shark catch) - 19
    * Pygmy Suckerfish Caught (from the start of the contest until the shark catch) - 10
    * Where Shark Caught (pool/water type and zone) - Nettlefish Pool in Sholazar ( I was just NW of the Nesingwary camp)
    * Turn-in Time (to Elder Clearwater) - 2:05 PM
    * Anything Unusual (for example, low level win or interesting strategy)

  14. runnerpadilla <Angler>, 1 month ago:

    * Win YES

    * Effective Fishing Skill 232+20 for 252 EFFECTIVE SKILL

    * Faction HORDE

    * Successful Casts 13

    * Pygmy Suckerfish Caught 11

    * Where Shark Caught GORLOC PUDDLE JUST OUTSIDE KASKALA, BOREAN TUNDRA

    * Turn-in Time UNKNOWN

    * Anything Unusual I STARTED OUT ON TWO NODES AT THE FRESHWATER POND NORTH OF WARSONG HOLD IN BOREAN TUNDRA. AFTER FISHING BOTH OUT, I NEEDED TO FIND A NEW LOCATION. I THOUGHT THERE MIGHT BE SOME IN KASKALA, SO HEADED THERE BY LAND. ON THE WAY, JUST OUTSIDE KASKALA, I SAW A NODE IN A GORLOC PUDDLE. FOUR CASTS LATER, I HAD THE SHARK. I WAS ONLY LEVEL 72 AT THE TIME. I AM AN AVID FISHER, BUT HAVEN'T REALLY PURSUED IT SERIOUSLY ON THIS PARTICULAR TOON. THIS WAS ACTUALLY MY FIRST TIME ATTEMPTING THE NORTHREND TOURNEY AND I ONLY DID IT BECAUSE I WAS NEXT TO A POND TO START.

  15. Eroiqua <Salty>, 2 weeks ago:

    I caught the shark (and won the contest) today on the Silvermoon US server. With it came the Salty title!

    • Win yes!
    • Effective Fishing Skill 483 (450 + Mastercraft Kalu'ak Pole + +3 line), didn't bother with lures because I only fished in pools
    • Faction Glory to the Alliance!
    • Successful Casts 15 casts across five pools
    • Pygmy Suckerfish Caught 5; I was getting worried at the start because my first seven casts caught no Suckerfish
    • Where Shark Caught Fangtooth Herring Pool at the southern tip of Cauldros Isle in Howling Fjord
    • Turn-in Time (to Elder Clearwater) Somewhere between 14:06 and 14:07, probably closer to the latter
    • Anything Unusual (for example, low level win or interesting strategy) Not really in the unusual category...but I'm happy I didn't lose because I stared at the shark with my mouth open for a few seconds before I snapped back into action and hit my hearthstone. As I was running to the turn-in, I saw someone else reach Elder Clearwater, but that person was either just curious about him or spent too much time thinking over the prize because that person was there a good 5 seconds ahead of me and I still won. In case anyone is curious, I chose the boots.
  16. Dioraymond <Angler>, 2 weeks ago:
