    Half hour before it started, I mapped out where I was going to go. Then the derby started and boat loads of alliance/horde were all over the area. I got the hell out of there and went around Venture Bay.

    Competed today for the first time, oddly enough. Did not win. Caught a Dark Herring today, though, and got the Away ach. Just one gold coin b/t me and Salty at this point. After that its on to get the Sea Turtle and the Giant Sewer Rat.

    :)

    Biotches!

    * Win: Yes
    * Effective Fishing Skill: 490 (450+ Arcanite Fishing Pole)
    * Faction: Horde
    * Successful Casts: 11 herrings + 2 crates
    * Pygmy Suckerfish Caught: 10
    * Where Shark Caught: pool, south of Skorn
    * Turn-in Time: 14:06ish
    * Anything Unusual: nothing

    First, I'm a bit ashamed I won this while already having the Salty title. I feel for the other fellow horde fishermen who congratulated me after they didn't win for the 100ish time or something.

    I won this on the third attempt (after winning STV on my second). I was running around with no aim at the Brewfest event, and after the 13:30 invasion I thought to myself : 'now what?'. Looked at the clock... around 25 minutes until the derby. Without thinking too much, I hs-ed in Dalaran. Mounted up, went to the flying master and took course to Howling Fjord.

    My heart sinked when I realised that I was stupid enough to use HS and not take a mage portal... I thought that I have no chance, but still... went to the lake southwest from Camp Winterhoof and waited for the next 15 minutes or so. There were like 5 or 6 pools around the lake so I thought at least I have what to do.

    Contest started, I had around 5 minutes on my hs and I was fishing with no hope. Got two crates and open them also (maybe the shark was inside!). After the first 2 pools, I moved where I remember the next would be only to find an ally fishing. Mumbled something, moved on. Next place, a hordie was fishing. I took a whole tour of the lake, no other pools.

    Now, my girlfriend (also an avid wow player) was trying to calm me, I was shouting 'stupid ally' and so forth, thinking I should gank him. But I moved on and followed a river to the south, to find the 3rd pool southwest from Skorn.

    I wasn't watching my hs cooldown anymore, but I swear that the second I saw some unusual icon in the loot window, I looked at the log and saw 'xxtip' (that's all I saw in the beginning), I took a look at the hs and it was JUST blinking with 'cooldown over'. I was trembling like hell, my heart was beating fast while hs was casting, ran to the npc, I managed not to faint when clicking on complete and there I go... Won it!

    Took the ring, I kinda love playing alts.

    That's the story, sorry for being so long, I am really excited about this. Too bad it doesn't show in the achievement that I won both, but at least I have the ring and the arcanite fishing pole to prove it :)

    PS: Tomorrow is my birthday, I can only think of this being a present for me :)

  7. Akramelag <Angler>, 1 year ago:

    Salty Akramelag from Hakkar-US.

    Win: no.

    Effective Fishing Skill (include bonuses from gear/lures) : 577

    Faction (Horde/Alliance): Horde.

    Successful Casts: about 170, no shark (161 Musselback sculpins, 4 Reinfored Crates, 11 Crystallized Water).

    Turn-in Time (to Elder Clearwater): the winner turned the shark in at 2:11 PM.

    After 350 casts and 225 pygmy suckerfish caught over 2 weeks, I'm getting anxious to at least catch that shark once!

  8. Detona <Angler>, 1 year ago:

    Detona Venture Co. EU

    Win: YES!
    Effective Fishing Skill (include bonuses from gear/lures): 537
    Faction (Horde/Alliance): Alliance
    Successful Casts (count up the non-Suckerfish from the start of the contest until the shark catch): around 20
    Pygmy Suckerfish Caught (from the start of the contest until the shark catch): 13
    Where Shark Caught (pool/water type and zone): Grizzly Hills, island down the river from Aberpine Lodge, Glacial Salmon pool
    Turn-in Time (to Elder Clearwater): 9 minutes
    Anything Unusual (for example, low level win or interesting strategy):

    Read the forums beforehand, figured Grizzly Hills would be a good place to fish, started out at Blue Sky Logging Camp.
    There were quite a lot of people about, I've seen atleast 6, After fishing in 3 pools I moved down the river because I couldn't find any more pools. Was flying around for atleast 2 minutes when I found a pool and on the second cast I caught the shark.

    Just got very lucky!
    Have fished in the Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza many times before but never won (got close twice)
    This was my first try at the Derby and I won!
    A very nice Christmas present :)

  17. horsk <Angler>, 10 months ago:

    * Horsk Rogue Teranas server EU
    * Win: Yes!
    * Effective Fishing Skill: 525 plus kulak fishing pole
    * Faction: Alliance
    * Successful Casts: 20
    * Pygmy Suckerfish Caught: 5
    * Where Shark Caught: Howling Fjord snowy lake top right hand of map
    * Turn-in Time: 7 minutes.
    I camped out at lake side but forgot time and logged in at 1359. I was really badly lagged out so when I gated back to Dalaran It the gate screen took forever so I was crapping myself that someone would beat me to it. I hit sprint and shot out of the inn to the hand in point and due to my lag the Kulak guy had not loaded in so i was crapping myself a second time waiting for him to appear.
    I stood there maybe 2 minutes talking to guild about winning the contest and as I was about to use my stormwind gate cloak someone turned up to hand in their shark.

    ■Effective Fishing Skill (include bonuses from gear/lures)
    585
    ■Faction (Horde/Alliance)
    Horde
    ■Successful Casts (count up the non-Suckerfish from the start of the contest until the shark

    ■Anything Unusual (for example, low level win or interesting strategy)
    If you take flight point to New Agamand and fly directly south to the lift there is usually 2 nodes very close together right there or very near north or south. Usually very quiet, good place to set up and pray.....SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Win (yes/no): Yes!

    Effective Fishing Skill (include bonuses from gear/lures): 565

    Successful Casts (count up the non-Suckerfish from the start of the contest until the shark catch): 17

    Pygmy Suckerfish Caught (from the start of the contest until the shark catch): 8

    Where Shark Caught (pool/water type and zone): TomTom: Howling Fjord, 62.79, 29.67. Otherwise: the stream that runs south of the Fort Wildervar lake. Very south edge of the stream, right next to the waterfall.

    Turn-in Time (to Elder Clearwater): 7 minutes, approximately (clock read 13:59 at start, and 14:06 at turn in)

    Anything Unusual (for example, low level win or interesting strategy): My area wasn't as busy as it normally is (and by busy, I mean... I saw one other fisher, normally there are 2-3). I usually stuck to the Fort Wildervar lake in Howling Fjord, been fishing there for weeks due to low population.
