[Fishing] Old Crafty / Croc in the city / Dragonblight phased event / post 3.08

    I have a few answers to several questions on these forums and wished I saw some of the replies here a few days ago.

    I started fishing for old craft after doing the 'veteran of the wraithgate' quest but before I finished the chain so I could fish phased and not deal with the horde players / guards. Anyhow I also saw the bug with the croc in the city and tried that.

    The result. 50 crocs and no crafty of which after a while I stopped tossing the croc. After 900 fish still no crafty. I became concerned even though I have heard the average is about 1500 fish not using the previous croc bug that blizzard might have made it impossible to catch crafty while phased. There were actually two of us fishing so the total fish count was near 2K with no reward. We both opened tickets to a GM to avoid 2 weeks of fishing for no reason. Anyhow the GM response is that the phased event will have no effect on the ability to fish or catch special fish.

    Conclusion. The croc quest bug is fixed but alliance or horde for that matter can fish in phase for as long as they want and in theory should catch it at some point. I'll update this forum if I am successful in that endevor before I have to bail and complete the chain quest to finish the elder achievement.

    Well I caught old crafty today so that answers the question of whether it can be done in phase after 3.08. I feel kinda bad as I just logged in and threw a couple casts and saw that another alliance fisherman was nearby. I ran around and found them and chatted with for a few. Threw one cast in and caught it... oops :).

    Tip: When on the quest Fate, Up Against Your Will which is apart of the phased quest line, talking to Jaina Proudmoore, who's standing to the right of King Varian Wrynn in Stormwind Keep, will open up a portal Orgrimmar. So now you can keep hearth in Dal and still be back to Orgrimmar fishing in minutes, instead of probably 30 mins of running around.

    And the only way to get out of phased is to finish the quest line. Or so the GM told me.

    About 800 casts into Orgrimmar waters, and nothing so far.

    • Character: (US-Kil'jaeden).
    • Aquarium: Ironjaw.

    zeusnjacky : im assuming that you were phased at the time that you caught ol crafty? It sounds like it from the informal way that you were able to find other alliance, but it was not stated explicitly.

    Hoping so ... still casting in phased mode

    From my personal experience, Old Crafty is well... crafty!

    I have tried on two characters to get him, no luck.
    First was my warlock, which was at max fishing skill (without +fishing gear), and was able to fish in the phased Orgrimmar. There was 8 hours spent in here, and numerous casts. Ive tried this with the Crocolisks quest, in a raid group, without a raid group, without the quest, and all sorts of server time combinations. There was no luck yet.
    HOWEVER, I was joined in my phased Org by a mage, who got Old Crafty after just a few casts.. (so, phased fishing still works)

    Second time around, I was on my priest. Now, being an Alliance player, fishing in Org does have its complications. I had already completed the phased event before attempting this, and so was in a "live" Org. I spent 3 hours fishing for Old Crafty, and no luck. Yet again, I tried a combination of with and without quest/groups, and no luck.
    Though, I was lucky enough to go early in the morning as to not be pestered by horde (though, there was a nice little troll that came to fish with me) and this was a bonus.
    I went in with 300 fishing and left with 800 fish, my 1k fish achievement (which was about 250 fish in), and a skill of 362. (with majority of time with the Crocolisks quest, I think its safe to say this bug has been fixed, and I wouldnt recommend setting hopes with it)
    Maybe I'll get lucky again when I attempt tonight.

    However, no one sould give up hope! While fishing in IF, another priest set up camp next to me.. know what happens? Ironjaw few casts in, and a few later, 25 fish achievement..

    I've caught Crafty twice (both on ally characters, different characters, neither was max level at the time so horde are always a problem). I'd guess the loot table is about the same for both phased and "live" orgrimmar.

    On my lock I caught him after 12 hours of fishing and only 4 deaths (not too shabby, pre-wrath, post bc, level 43-ish at the time).

    Second time was while training fishing on my DK. I went from 225-300 and then fished for an additional 6 hours to get ironjaw, then did some fishing training, then went from 300-375 +4 more hours of fishing to get old crafty.

    Then I worked from 375-450 working on coins. I hit 450 about 3 or 4 hours before my last coin, long after the 1k fish achievement (think I got that somewhere between 225-300 skill).
